97.1 The Fan Kids Sports & Fitness Zone

Get kids “in the zone” with these fun and health-promoting activities: • Bowling: Kids can enjoy the sport by taking a turn on the 97.1 The Fan bowling lanes.

• Laser Tag: Kids can run around this area, furnished by Games 2 U, and play a futuristic game of tag.

• Giant Hamster Balls: These 9-foot tall hamster balls provide tons of fun for kids and parents alike.

• Outdoor Education: The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is on hand to teach kids the sport of archery in its archery trailer. There is also an on-site ODNR boat for boater safety courses, plus other outdoor education activities.

• Miniature Golf: Kids can test their skills at the 97.1 The Fan Miniature Golf Course and also register to win a set of kids Callaway golf clubs.

• Bicycle Safety: Cycling is a great way to get active. The City of Columbus has bikes for the kids to ride, complete with safety information.

• City of Columbus Firehouse: The City of Columbus Firehouse is back at the Expo!

This is a “hot” attraction where kids are taught the importance of fire safety and what to do if there is a fire in their home.

• Games 2 U Theater: Kids can stop by this interactive trailer for all kinds of Wii activities that are sure to get the blood flowing!

• Team Sports: Ohio sports teams will be on hand to engage kids in youth sportsrelated activities.

Catch the “Big Show” broadcasting live at the Expo on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You’ll hear the latest sports news, a preview of the upcoming college football season and preseason predictions. You might even run into some former Buckeyes!

These two critical screenings for women over 40 will be available at the 10TV Health & Fitness Expo on Sunday, when the OhioHealth Mobile Mammography and Bone Density Unit visits from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mammograms are recommended beginning at age 40. You don’t need a prescription to get yours at the Expo. Bone density testing (prescription needed) is recommended for post-menopausal women over age 50. Most major health insurance plans cover these exams. However, patients may be responsible for a portion of exam fees. Call (614) 566-1111 or (877) 566-1112 to schedule your mammogram and bone density appointments with OhioHealth’s mobile testing unit.

A 2011 government report revealed that emergency room visits by children with concussions and other traumatic brain injuries from sports and recreation activities have increased 60 percent over the last decade. Experts will answer questions and discussion prevention.

Abuse of prescription drugs is the No. 1 cause of accidental death – more than car accidents – and Ohio has new efforts to curb the problem. Experts will talk about how to spot someone who needs help and where to find the resources.
