Member focus — Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital Since 2008, the Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital has been a member of the UpperArlington Area Chamber of Commerce. Staffed by Dr. Adam Parson, Dr. Joanna Parson and Dr. A.J. Wildman, the veterinarians are all graduates of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine with a combined 30 years of experience. In addition to the UA Veterinary Hospital, Drs. Parsons also own the Northstar Animal Care and Pet Boarding clinic. In joining the Chamber, Dr. Adam Parson’s goal was to become more involved in the Upper Arlington business community to bring awareness to his practices. While Drs. Adam and Joanna Parson have made a large investment in the business community with their ownership of the two veterinary practices, they also live in UA with their three children. As a local business owner, Dr. Adam Parson says that “the Chamber has provided networking opportunities so that we could meet other local business owners. We like the idea of keeping the business local and supporting other local business. Your legal questions answered What is a last will and testament and trust and why might I need them? A will and a trust are written documents that you sign during your lifetime to specify who and how your estate will be administered after your death or incapacity. Your will appoints an executor to administer those of your assets that need to be administered through probate court, while the trust appoints your trustee to administer those of your assets that avoid probate court administration. These documents allow you to specify which assets you want to gift after your death, and to whom, when they can receive them, and impose restrictions on the assets as you deem necessary. If you have minor children, you can specify a guardian to

and in what percentages. A will and trust are just two of the documents necessary for you to have a complete estate plan. In addition, there are other estate-planning documents used to carry out your wishes. They can include a living will, and financial and health-care powers of attorney. Although it may sound complicated, these documents are all easy to understand. The biggest mistake you can make is not planning at all, which can result in blunders involving your personal property, real estate, executors, minors, prior marriages, taxes, disgruntled friends and family, and funerals and burials.
