Vaughn Music Studio to sponsor Taste of UA Music Program

The Taste of UA began as a small gathering of businesses at Tremont Center and grew into an annual event that fills Northam Park. In addition to featuring food from area restaurants and local businesses, there has always been a musical component to the Taste of UA. In past years, local bands such as Willie Phoenix, Avalon Nine, The Ark Band, Cougar Trap, The Majestic’s and McGuffey Lane have performed at the Taste.

“For the first time in the Taste of UA’s 19 years, we are so please that Vaughn Music Studio has agreed to sponsor the festival’s music program. As the Taste event continues to grow, we are also trying to grow the musical aspect of the event. Bringing Vaughn on board is essential to the growth of the event as an opportunity for local musicians to gain exposure and entertain the thousands of people who attend the Taste,” says Becky Hajost, president of the Upper Arlington Area Chamber of Commerce. Vaughn Music Studio’s (VMS) new facility located on Riverside Drive features multiple acoustically isolated lesson rooms, a state of the art recording studio, and a 1,000 square feet performance space. VMS is a full-service music studio providing artist development, music instruction and recording, voice, guitar, piano, drums, performance coaching, workshops and webinars. “Vaughn is an asset to Columbus’ artistic community. Bringing their production know how is essential to growing the Taste as we look to feature more local bands and musicians at the Taste. We hope to evolve into a multiday festival promoting local music and talent. We love that we give recognition to area restaurants and food vendors, so we think that it is natural to add an expanded musical piece to the Taste of UA. In brain storming with Collin Gawel of Collin’s Coffee, Cindy Vaughn of Vaughn Music Studios and Doug Ryan, the Chamber’s board president, we came to agree

Top: Avalon Nine will be performing from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bier Garten stage. Bottom left: Grassinine will be on the Main stage from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Bottom right: Good Company will provide a classic rock experience on the Main stage from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Not pictured: Don’t miss the original sound of Central Planners from 5 to 6 p.m. on the Main stage. that we could add an expanded local music production to the Taste. The Taste has brought recognition to area restaurants, why not to local musicians as well,” says Hajost. Residents of Upper Arlington can enjoy music in the parks free during the summer with familyoriented concerts. “Listening to live music, close to home, is one of the wonderful benefits of living

in Upper Arlington. As supporters of local artists we welcome the opportunity to provide artful en-

counters for our community,” says Lynette Santoro-Au, Arts Manager City of Upper Arlington.

This year’s Taste of UA will feature the following local bands. Central Planners – The Central Planners blend a vast array of influences and musical experience resulting in a sound that can only be described as original. The end result is music that is melodic, sometimes heavy, with an appropriate amount of 30-something angst, sarcasm and optimism. Main stage 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Good Company – Central Ohio’s total classic rock experience, Good Company plays your favorite rock music from the late ’60s and early ’70s featuring songs from Fleetwood Mac and Grand Funk Railroad to Bob Seger and Sweet and everything in between. Main stage 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. Grassinine – Grassinine is a bluegrass-style band that plays all sorts of stuff from Flatt & Scruggs to U2 and everything in between. Main stage 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Avalon Nine – Avalon Nine’s music is flavored with the sounds of San Francisco’s Avalon Ballroom and contemporary Americana. The result is a fresh--- but familiar – sound, and their original material pays homage to American folk, rock and pop traditions. Bier Garten stage 6 to 9 p.m.

Fun for the entire family If you are looking for something fun to do with your entire family, then the Taste of UA is the event for you. The Taste of UA offers food, fun and more and admission is free. Kids and Buckeye fans alike will enjoy the Buckeye Mobile Tour, which travels throughout the State of Ohio, engaging fans through Buckeye-branded vehicles, interactive games and sponsor activities. Along with the Buckeye Mobile Tour, there will be amusement rides, a mobile kiddie train, and a climbing wall for those who dare to reach for the sky. If it’s a hot day, cool off at Bello Giardino with a run through their water mister. And if you have been participating in the Upper Arlington Public Library’s summer reading club, head over to the dunk tank sponsored

by the UAPL and dunk your favorite librarian. For those with a taste for specialty craft beer, visit the expanded Bier Garten sponsored by the Heidelberg Distributing Company. Heidelberg will have their beer master on hand to speak about their craft beers. “On tap will be Brooklyn beers and Labatt Blue and we will be serving Woodbridge wines as well this year,” says Dan Diem, General Manager, Heidelberg. This year’s Bier Garten is expanding in size due to its popularity and once again will be located on the south-west side of St. Agatha Catholic Church’s property so that it will have great visibility and easy access. The Taste of UA will take place rain or shine from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.
