Take time to enhance your home in the new year

Along with champagne toasts and New Year's kisses, the New Year brings fresh resolutions for your biggest investment. Take the time in 2013 to enhance your living space and your changes may pay off in the future. It may also be a moment to get more for less, as contractors, designers and remodelers often offer discounted services.

Jerry White Real Estate Matters Homeowners should set goals that continuously improve their home, not only to customize, but to enhance the property's value and appeal. The results

are tangible and can help create points of differentiation when you put your home on the market. Here are some tips for improving your home in 2013:

■ Set goals: When creating resolutions for yourself and your home, establish detailed and attainable goals. Instead of saying you'll fix up the entire house, prioritize specific projects and budgets for each. ■ Do an annual physical: The chilly weather, which keeps us indoors, creates a fine opportunity to

give your home a physical. Get the heating system serviced, check visible water pipes for cracks or leaks and have appliances inspected. Making these type of annual maintenance investments will help you avoid larger, more expensive repairs down the line. ■ Get organized: From mortgage payments to home

improvement project receipts, create a file to document all of the improvements you have made. This process will help keep your finances in check and provide a sequential paper trail for home buyers. ■ Brighten it up: Many homeowners and buyers are looking to create a headquarters for spending quality time Please see TIME, pg. 4

Older children still at home? Consider the Connie design There are many advantages to be found in the configuration of the 2,439 square foot Connie (403-46) floor design. Built on two levels, this home is ideally suited for a family with older children still living at home. Two good-sized bedrooms on the lower level provide the privacy, along with a good place to study, for young adults. Each bedroom has ample closet space, and one features a built-in desk that any busy student will put to good use. There is a full bathroom, equipped with twin basins, to service this floor. The remainder of the basement level is a huge family room, heated by a wood stove. Here the whole gang can relax and watch television or play a game of PingPong without disturbing the rest of the household. Sliding BETHEL VILLAGE NEW

Home Design glass doors open to a spacious patio when it’s time for outdoor fun. Plenty of extra storage space is hidden beneath the stairway. The upper level of the Connie has a floor design that makes excellent use of the available space. Open and well lit by windows on all sides, the Connie combines elegance and practicality. The isolated master suite is a good example. Some of the amenities included are large sleeping areas, vaulted ceiling, walk-in closet, access to the back deck and a private bathroom. The living and dining rooms are both vaulted and open to each other. This creates a substantial family area that misrepresents the listed square footage. Placed conveniently

next to the dining room, the kitchen is sure to please. In addition to all the built-ins, there is an eating bar and walk-in pantry. Breakfast time will be a pleasure in the adjoining skylit nook. Savor your second cup of coffee while enjoying the morning view through the bright bay window. To the front of the house is a nice-sized home office. There is enough room here for chairs, computer desk and filing cabinets. A full bathroom is adjacent to the office.

The Connie (40346) is the Landmark Designs Inc. plan of the week. Up to 30 percent off construction plans is offered. Call 800-5621151 or visit ldiplans.com for details. A $25 study
