Grove City Family Dentistry Five dentists. Eleven hygienists. Eight dental assistants. Fourteen administrative and management staff. Thousands of patients. Grove City Family Dentistry might look like a large, impersonal clinic, but only if you give it a passing glance. “It starts with the facility,” says Dr. Paula Zimmerman. “From the waiting room, with our kids’ room, to all of our operatories, [which] have themes. … So instead of going, ‘Oh, you’re going to be in room 14’—which sounds kind of cold and sterile—we have a Buckeye room, we have a rock ’n’ roll room, we have a Nashville room, we have a Hollywood room.” Each of the practice’s 15 operatory rooms has its own unique theme, in fact, with matching décor and a TV on either the wall or ceiling to help “hide the dentistry,” as Zimmerman puts it. The staff all strive to further foster a sense of ease and enjoyment in the facility. Positive attitudes are the norm, says Zimmerman. “One of the comments that we get from a lot of our patients is, ‘Everybody seems so happy here,’ ” she adds. “It has to come from the doctors. The doctors have to come in and be in great moods and be ready to do their day. And that just fosters the whole thing.” Grove City Family Dentistry opened in 1960 with a single dentist. Dr. Craig Oiler grew up visiting the practice, and he took it over after completing dental school in the 1990s. From there, the practice added Zimmerman, Dr. Brian Mitchell, Dr. Ryan Niemic and most
recently, Dr. Christopher Turner. Turner followed the path of Dr. Oiler in the sense that Grove City Family Dentistry was his family dentist since childhood as well. “It was kind of fun watching him grow up, and now he’s part of our practice,” says Zimmerman. “We have a lot of staff that’s been with us eight, 10, 15 years,” she adds. “I feel like we’ve all grown up and grown old together!” The practice takes a team approach, so patients can become familiar with the same dentist, hygenists, dental assistants and front desk staff at each visit. When specialized services are needed, patients often have a resource right in the building, eliminating the need for a referral. Zimmerman is an experienced provider of the Invisalign tooth-straightening system; she uses an advanced Itero scanner to take digital scans of the teeth, avoiding the need for the traditional—and often messy and uncomfortable—impression molds. Kyle D. Bogan, D.D.S. When Dr. Kyle Bogan opened North Orange Family Dentistry in 2013, he had one major goal in mind. “I’ve worked at practices where patients were treated like a number. They’re just trying to get them in and get them out,” he says. “When I opened this place, that was the one thing that I was going to change. I didn’t want my patients to feel like a number, so we do our best to make them feel like part of this family.” One way to do that—beyond the office’s well-appointed, homey waiting room and friendly staff—is by focusing on patient education with tools like an intraoral camera. This tiny device photographs the insides of patients’ mouths, allowing them to see the exact state of their teeth and gums. “I’m big into educating patients on the status of their mouth and letting them make
decisions,” says Bogan. “Gone are the days, I think, where you go in to see the dentist and they [tell you] you need this, this and this … and there’s no more talking about it.” Patients at North Orange Family Dentistry also have the convenience of same-day crowns or veneers, thanks to technology like the CEREC system. And an all-digital workflow allows for computer-guided implant placements, which are faster, more accurate and require less healing time. Other services include snoring and sleep apnea treatment, TMJ treatment, oral cancer exams, sealants, extractions, root canal therapy and standard cleaning services. All of this comes together to create a comprehensive care office for all ages. “We believe in delivering a five-star dental experience, where the entire family can feel at home,” says Bogan.

John G. Imm III, D.D.S. When Dr. John Imm—known often as “TJ” because he is the “third John” in his family— acquired the 41-year-old Hooper Dentistry practice in January 2016, he had a few changes to make. First up was the name. Instead of rebranding the practice with his own name, Imm drew inspiration from the Upper Arlington intersection of Fishinger and Tremont roads with Northwest Boulevard known as “five points,” which the office is located near. Technological improvements soon followed, as Imm replaced an analog panoramic X-ray machine with a top-of-theline 3-D cone beam CT scanner. “We knew that it was quickly becoming the standard of care for implants,” says Imm. The office also replaced messy, traditional impression trays with a digital impression system, for a faster and more comfortable patient experience. In addition to general and family dentistry, Imm and the staff at 5Points Advanced
Dentistry offer a variety of cosmetic and pain management services. “I’m constantly looking at continuing education to try to grow in the services I provide,” Imm says. “The most beneficial to me has been a course taken through Dr. Steven Olmos in Tennessee. … That’s where I’ve really gotten the bulk of my training in the last year.” Olmos is the founder and CEO of T & S Therapy Centre International, which trains dentists in the areas of craniofacial pain, sleep disorders (including sleep apnea) and related issues. “My philosophy is to improve patients’ lives with non-invasive, innovative care delivered in a sincerely caring environment,” says Imm. “We look for the root cause of all issues and consider the whole person, oftentimes working with other providers to deliver optimum care.” Imm partners with dental specialists, medical doctors, chiropractors and even massage therapists to ensure that a patient receives a comprehensive treatment plan.

Prashanthi Vadhi, D.D.S. Vadhi is certified to administer Botox for both cosmetic and dental procedures, like treating TMJ and clenching issues. She’s also certified
to administer Juvéderm to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. In September, Vadhi and her team moved to their current location to accommodate doctors Jerry Urell and Penny Dietz joining her dental practice; this allows patients to receive more in-house treatments for a variety of services. “The patients that we used to send out for a root canal or an extraction or an implant, they may have been hesitant to do it because it’s out of their comfort zone,” says operations manager Jane Meng. “But having everything within just one office, they’re more comfortable with having something done.” An oral surgeon will soon join the team as well, to administer sedation and wisdom tooth extraction services. The office also has a full-time bilingual receptionist, who acts as an interpreter for patients who only speak Spanish. “There’s a language barrier,” says Meng. “So we wanted to be able to reach out to everybody that we could.”
