The Most Meaningful Marathon in the Country Children’s Champion Gary Ross has run the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon & ½ Marathon for years. It has always been near and dear to his heart. In 2014, the Marathon became even more meaningful to him after he was diagnosed with cancer. From then on, he made the decision to dedicate his race to Patient Champions who are fighting battles just like his.

Children’s Champions, like Ross, fight for every patient treated at Nationwide Children’s. Their commitment to our cause allows us the opportunity to treat every child, from here and around the world, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon & ½ Marathon is much more than a race — it is the most meaningful marathon in the country because it helps make miracles happen. Imagine crossing the finish line knowing that your race has helped save or improve the life of a child.

Race Day — What You Need To Know

Arrive Early!

With 18,000 athletes, thousands of spectators and hundreds of Race personnel and volunteers headed to the same place at the same time on Race morning, it will be busy!

The Start Line Area opens at 6 a.m., so don’t wait — get on the road 30 minutes earlier than you planned and get Downtown!

Parking

With the combined Start/Finish Area, Race Day parking for athletes and spectators is easy, find a spot and you are good to go!

More than 15,000 parking spaces are available within a few minutes’ walk of the Start/Finish in the Arena District. Find more information at arenadistrictparking.com or at columbusmarathon.com and click on the parking tab.

The Start Line Area

The Race begins at North Bank Park, near the corner of Long Street and Neil Avenue.

When you arrive, first take your clear, race-issued bag to Gear Check, maybe grab a last-minute energy gel or item of clothing at our Race Store, and then GO, GO, GO into the Athlete-only Start Area.

Athletes will be lined up according to estimated finishing times. Each start corral will have dozens of restrooms, water and plenty of room nearby to relax. Get into the Athlete-only area, and all you have left is the Race.

After the singing of the “National Anthem,” the Marathon & ½ Marathon both start at 7:30 a.m. with send-off fireworks!

Expect the last person to cross the Start Line by 8 a.m. The ½ Marathon course closes at 11:30 a.m., and the Marathon course closes at 2 p.m.

The Finish Area

The Race finishes where it started at North Bank Park. Spectators, you really have it easy — find a spot to watch the start, and you’re all set for the finish! But you don’t have to stand or sit still — we will have lots of activities, food carts, the Race Store and things to see — check it all out!

Once the Race is over, athletes will pass through a restricted area to receive medals and food bags. Family and friends can meet up with their athletes in Celebration Village, east of Neil Avenue. There will be areas to relax, activities for the kids and live music to enjoy.

(First-timers, the answer is automatically yes!) If so, be sure to hit our “PR Gong” to celebrate your accomplishment! Qualify for the Boston Marathon on our course? Then visit the Info Booth and grab a pin to mark the moment! And don’t forget to visit our Race Store for great finisher’s gear!
