The next Hilliard Chamber Luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24 at the Courtyard by Marriott Columbus West on 2350 Westbelt Drive. A representative from the Franklinton Tutoring Program will be speaking on volunteer tutoring opportunities within the Hilliard City School District.

This luncheon is open to the public.

In its sixth year, this tutoring program has now expanded to the Hilliard City School District and would not exist without the willingness and

compassion of volunteers to come and tutor students in reading.

Students give up having recess and lunch with their peers, for one day a week, to meet with an adult volunteer tutor. And they love it! The program works with teachers and staff to not only improve a child’s comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation, but to provide a positive and caring relationship.

A fun filled evening with family, friends and other chamber members will be on Tuesday, July 17 at the Franklin County Fair! The Franklin County Agricultural Society invites members of all the chambers of commerce in Franklin County to come and experience the fair and connect with others in our area.

From 5-7 p.m., visit the Hospitality Tent on the fairgrounds where you can sample complimentary fair food and drinks.

Ride tickets and wristbands can also be purchased.

The evening entertainment at the fair on July 17 is: 6-10 p.m. Junior Fair Musical Freestyle Horse Performance held in the Bob Evans Horse Arena. See your community 4-H members ride in costume on their horse to a personally chosen musical selection while individually competing in this popular event.

6:30 p.m. Junior Fair Creativity Challenge Contest at the Activities Tent.

7 p.m. Visit the Entertainment Tent to hear some Bluegrass music from the Fossil Creek Band 7 p.m. W.A.R wrestling at the Grandstand Chamber of Commerce members have one complimentary ticket and can purchase a discounted admission ticket for other family members and friends at $4.00 each. “Stand up and take The Lead.”

I heard a talk this month from a man I respect and he asked the group to “Stand up and take The Lead.” Take lead of what you might ask? It doesn’t matter, just take the lead of something. America TOM BAKER today needs more leaders from the common citizenry. Business people, our Chamber members, are in a unique position to “Stand up and take The Lead.” We can lead our companies, our departments, our divisions, our districts, our regions. We can lead our families, churches, charities, neighbors, chambers, rotaries, civic clubs, youth clubs, schools, government, etc. You choose, but make a choice to make a difference by leading or helping to lead an organization that

can make a difference. Leaders don’t expect to be rewarded, but your choice to lead will be rewarded. Leading requires interaction with others and through this interaction you will find rewards. Friendships, respect, and association with men and women in the community are some of these rewards.

But the biggest reward will be that satisfaction that you stood up and took the lead. Watching an organization start up, grow, and thrive is very satisfying, just as helping a struggling organization find its mission, then grow and thrive is very satisfying. But also good, vibrant organizations need successors, and there is satisfaction in helping that organization maintain its mission. So consider your options, your opportunities to lead, and “Stand up and take The Lead.”

Renai Award Winner: Jean Sickles

At the recent Hilliard Women in Business Luncheon, Jean Sickles of Premier Chiropractic Center of Mill Run was awarded the Renai Award.

In today’s ever-changing world, we feel that the contributions of women in business exemplify the multifaceted talents and interests of many of those figures.

The talents necessary to achieve success within the workplace, making positive contributions to the communities we serve and maintaining balance within our lives are far more difficult than at any point in history.

The award was named the Renai after the Renaissance period in history.

Jean Sickles of Premier Chiropractic Center of Mill Run was awarded the Renai Award.

Taste of Hilliard & Business Expo

Chamber businesses are now able to reserve a spot in the Business Expo for Wednesday, August 15 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Makoy Center. This is a great way to showcase your business to the Hilliard community! Last year we had over 1,000 community members attend and the feedback was outstanding!
