The Columbus Partnership is leading the charge! Smart Columbus is the smart city initiative for the City of Columbus and the Columbus Region. This initiative will affect everyone in the central Ohio region, including Hilliard. As the sole winner of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) first-ever Smart City Challenge, Columbus was awarded more than funding and designation as America’s Smart City.

Can Martial Arts Have a Positive Impact on Kids? Martial arts helps kids stand up to bullying by changing the behavior of both the bullies and the bullied through a focus on respect, immediate consistent consequences and positive feedback for good effort. It also builds confidence and encourages students to develop the positive behaviors they are rewarded for, like courtesy, integrity, and perseverance. Students also develop a stronger work ethic through challenging yet achievable goals, which results in increased confidence and improved performance in school. Kids, teens and adults get a great workout that can make them stronger, less stressed and more physically fit. Additionally, many of our students who also participate in other sports find that martial arts training makes them a better all-around athlete. Light Central Ohio Blue Week Let’s light up Hilliard in blue! It is a campaign to show support to the law enforcement personnel who protect our communities in Central Ohio and a way to honor and pay respects to the law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Each year, in May, campaign participants work with several Central Ohio businesses to light the Columbus skyline blue. Every citizen and business is encouraged to change their exterior lights to blue to show their support for law enforcement personnel. It will take place May

Hollyfest Arts & Crafts Show Application Due July 1 Are you or do you know someone who makes amazing handmade crafts? We are looking for them to apply to the 36th Hollyfest Arts & Crafts Show to be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Each year brings 5,000 people to Hilliard to this premier craft show which features 118 vendors. The vendors who have participated in this and other shows overwhelmingly tell us that
this is one of the best-run shows in central Ohio. It is a juried show and the application can be found on the Chamber’s website, www.hilliardchamber.org. The deadline is July 1st to turn in the application along with at least 3 photos and $10 jury fee.
