Experience the seventh annual Taste of Grandview Enjoy the day sampling some of the best from area restaurants at the “Taste of Grandview” on Sunday, Oct. 7 from 2 to 7 p.m., at the southeast corner of Goodale Blvd. and Grandview Ave., next to the Grandview Center. “Each year we attract new and different vendors which keeps the event fresh. With the addition of our beer garden last year, it’s just a great way to spend the day in our community,” said Michelle Wilson, Executive Director for the Grandview Area Chamber. A variety of foods from many area restaurants including but not limited to Third & Hollywood, Marshall’s Cookshack, Champps, Jeni’s Ice Cream, The Oilerie, Grandview Café, Rocco’s Pizza Plus, Matt the Miller, The Grandview Grind, Pure Imagination Chocolatier, Schmidt’s Sausage Truck (New in 2012!) Firehouse Subs, Leslie’s Creperie, Jason’s Deli and more. All restaurants will have a text-to-vote code for patrons to vote for their favorites. New

their favorites, but this new process puts all of the voting power in the hands of our patrons.” said Doug Mack, President of Cliing.
In addition, the beer garden this year will feature local craft brews by the Elevator Brewing Company, and Marshall’s will have their 60’ television broadcasting NFL games! Anyone can enter the beer garden, but you must be 21 to receive a wristband that allows you to be served beer. Yard makes headway with two committments Medical facility HealthSouth calling Grandview Yard home Grandview Yard, already situated near so many quality hospital systems such as Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Riverside Methodist Hospital, an OhioHealth facility, Mount Carmel West and downtown’s OhioHealth facility, Grant Medical Center; is a perfect location to add a medical facility, and, perhaps more than one. HealthSouth Corp, based in Birming-
ham, AL, is building a specialty hospital at the southwestern edge of the project, near the intersection of Goodale and Northwest Boulevards. The building will be a two-story, 62,000+ square-foot rehabilitation hospital with 42 patient rooms. Brian Ellis, President of Nationwide Realty Investors, and Grandview Yard site developers believes the impact the HealthSouth project will be highly positive as it will create jobs from construction to completion where they expect to employ 120 staff members. The Affordable Care Act – Flash Point By MARTY VAUGHAN The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) that came into law in 2010 is about to undergo its second big challenge before full implementation, the upcoming Presidential election. The first challenge in the Supreme Court this summer affirmed the bill could continue forward by a 5 to 4 vote. The Health Care Reform Bill nicknamed Obama-Care, when passed set up an 8 year phase-in period from 2010 – 2018. The vast majority of the changes occur on one day; January 1, 2014. On that day the following major events occur: Health questions of applicants and pre-existing condition clauses are banned, over half the country will be eligible for government assistance to pay for health care, both employer groups of over 50 employees and the general public defined as individuals will be subject to a penalty if they do not buy health insurance, and all rating rules for insurance pricing go to modified community rating so that age and sex price factors are muted. These are huge changes and are hard for most of us, including many experts, to contemplate the impact. Do the positives outweigh the negatives of so much change? Let’s start by asking the question “Why was reform implemented in the first place?” There are three primary reasons for considering reform: first to provide insurance for up to 50 million uninsured Americans, second to change
insurance company rating practices to make sure coverage is consistent and available, and third to provide substantial assistance to many Americans who cannot afford to pay for coverage. These all seem like worthy ideas but what are the repercussions of trying to fix all problems in one bill, considering the bill did not receive bipartisan support? This upcoming election is kind of a flashpoint regarding the Obama-Care bill moving forward. Are the three objectives stated above fixable in the manner and time frame laid out by the bill? Most believe that if Barack Obama is reelected the bill will likely proceed in its current form unless Congress has had a seismic shift to the right (towards Republican control). On the other hand if Romney is elected and Republicans gain some or total control of the Congress, the bill will likely stop or be substantially rewritten. The primary reason for Republican opposition is the debt problem in the US. If we had a balanced budget or something close to a balanced budget there would likely be support from both sides of the aisle for much of Obama-care’s primary ideas. So as you consider this upcoming election, read up on the health care bill and make an informed decision on what we are gaining and risking by allowing the health care bill to proceed as it is written. Update on Health Care Reform On June 28 the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) by a 5 to 4 vote! In the ruling, the court decided the most controversial provision — an individual mandate requiring people to buy health insurance… is valid. Chief Justice John Roberts said “It is reasonable to construe what Congress has done with the mandate is increasing taxes on those with certain income, who choose to go without coverage.” Roberts went on “The federal government does not have the power to order people to buy health insurance…The Federal government does have the power to impose a tax on those without health insurance.”
So where does this leave us with reform: three scenarios 1. The Bill will proceed with full implementation in 2014 2. The Bill will be repealed if Republicans take full control this November 3. The Bill could be modified or delayed if the election creates less than full control by Republicans
Three important elements to consider 1. Increasing Coverage Headcount. Right now 40 million citizens and 10 million illegals are without coverage. The Bill through a series of changes in Medicaid, plus providing Tax Credits (vouchers) to the lower and middle class, and penalties to those not taking coverage plan to add 30-35 million to the coverage rolls. 2. Changes in Insurance Rating and Enrollment Practices. Insurance companies can no longer review health history or have preexisting condition provisions in their plans. Also rates have to be blended by age and sex. 3. Huge Government Subsidies are provided to pay for coverage. Twothirds of the population will be provided substantial assistance to pay for health insurance. Through expanded Medicaid and newly formed Insurance Exchanges trillions of dollars will be provided to pay for coverage.

Take a Closer Look at Marble Cliff… Marble Cliff, a village of approximately 175 acres and 573 residents (2010 Census), was incorporated in 1901 as one of the first suburbs of Columbus. Phase One, which opened in September 2010, has made great strides with the opening of a 126-room Hyatt Place Hotel that has consistently exceeded occupancy projections. The 42,000 square-foot Urban Active Fitness Center has one of the highest membership bases in the country. And the Class-A office space is already over 86% occupancy including offices, restaurants and retail. The initial residential development in the Yard is nearly complete. The Apartments at Grandview Yard has a waiting list before the first tenant even moves in. The three-building project has 154 apartment units. Adding Giant Eagle begins the development of Phase II. They have signed a 20-year lease for a site along West Third and Edgehill Road, and could include a GetGo gas station. The new infrastructure surrounding the Giant Eagle site will include approximately $7.8 million in improvements. According to Brian Ellis, President of Nationwide Realty Investors, “The Third Avenue corridor will be the retail focal point of Grandview Yard and we are close to announcing several restaurants and a bank to occupy the outparcels of the Giant Eagle anchor.” Ellis believes that the project’s outstanding location, and market timing and demand as the primary reasons for the initial success and continuing momentum. It is centrally located in the affluent suburb of Grandview Heights, near The Ohio State University, the downtown business district, the Arena/ Entertainment district and several major hospital systems. Ellis concludes that “Grandview Yard is well positioned as one of the few active, large mixed-use projects today.”
