5th Annual Digfest: Soaked up the fun! A bit drippy, but a lot of fun. That pretty much sums up the annual Digfest (Drinks In Grandview) celebration that took place on Saturday, June 13. “You can plan your heart out, add more vendors, increase attractions and more, but it all depends on Mother Nature.” Michelle Wilson, Executive Director of the Grandview Area Chamber said. The event takes four months to plan and execute, and it has made up a large part of the Chamber’s annual budget for the past three of its five years. “We’ve had perfect weather every year until now, so I guess it was just our turn for a little rain.” Despite the sporadic downpours and lack of any music or video, the crowds at Digfest were AMAZING. They stuck it out, took shelter under tents, and made the best of a less-than-perfect situation. Some of the guests even used a tent as an oversized umbrella and walked from vendor to vendor to continue their fun. The event has become a popular

regional event in the Columbus area. A first-time partnership with Uber yielded record numbers for
the Grandview area. “Drop-offs to Grandview were up 73% and pick-ups were up 146%. In other words, this was the biggest night in Grandview history, by far.” said Michael DeFisher, Uber Marketing Manager. Michelle Wilson noted that there were approximately 4,000 that weathered the storm, so to speak, and they were on course for a record attendance had the sun stayed a little longer. She is grateful to the patrons, vendors and sponsors of the event and feels confident it will continue to grow. She also mentioned that she’s put in an order for perfect weather for Digfest 2016.

Chamber Challenge wins National award On June 16, The American Chamber of Commerce Executives announced their annual winners of their Awards for Communication Excellence. The Grandview Area Chamber is honored (and excited!) to have received the Award of Excellence for the Chamber Challenge project. In 2014 Grandview Chamber of Commerce looked to embody their slogan of working together and having each member’s back. Lead by executive director, Michelle Wilson, they started the first ever Grandview Chamber Challenge. The goal of this unique program was to take a local business who was hitting hard times and as a chamber help them achieve success. Members were to partner together to help provide a complete makeover of a selected business. All of this while documenting the process in video format, so that those who were unable to participate with their time or talent could be involved in the projects and
engage with the chamber. Over a six month period, chamber members united together to meet with the owner of The French Loaf to help learn about their current situation and then ways to improve all areas of the business. Services during the planning period consisted of review of current books, writing a new business plan, training and business coaching, creating a new financial plan, architectural drawings, signage, marketing and branding, social media campaign development and implementation, decorations, printing, and physical labor. The weekend of May 16-18, 2014 over 60 volunteers spent just under three days renovating the physical location. The transformation was astounding; the members truly guided the French Loaf on to the road of success. Goals of the Chamber Challenge:
• Increase member awareness and participation in the chamber • Increase membership • Be true to the organization’s mission: To promote and support an environment for development, growth and success of the area’s community. Outcomes: • Over $70,000 in donated products
and services from members • 60+ volunteers and over 31 member companies were involved • 80 members attended to the video launch of the documentary • In total over 50% of the members participated, supported and engaged in the program
Nationwide Realty Investors announces Courtyard By Marriott and The Grand Event Center coming to Grandview Yard in summer 2016 By MARK WINTER GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS–– Columbus-based Nationwide Realty Investors announced today that Courtyard by Marriott will be the flag for the new hotel at Grandview Yard. NRI President and COO Brian J. Ellis made the announcement. Located at 780 Yard Street, at the corner of Goodale Boulevard and Yard Street, the 4-story, 135-room Courtyard will feature the brand’s latest guest room design and amenities, an outdoor seating area and fire pit, an indoor pool, fitness center, and meeting rooms. The hotel will also include Courtyard’s Bistro concept with grab n’ go snacks, breakfast, light sit down meals, and a variety of beer, wine and cocktail selections. “We are pleased to announce Courtyard by Marriott at Grandview Yard,” said Ellis. “The new hotel will compliment our existing Hyatt Place, and with its’ strong appeal to business travelers, Courtyard will integrate well into our centrally located development.” “We are excited to partner with Nationwide Realty Investors to develop a new Courtyard hotel at Grandview Yard,” said Callette Nielsen, vice president and global brand manager, Courtyard by Marriott. “This dynamic location paired with the exceptional Courtyard
experience will serve both business and leisure travelers well.” The Grand Event Center, also slated for Summer 2016, located at 820 Goodale Boulevard at the corner of Yard Street and Goodale, a new 13,000-square-foot event center will feature a commercial kitchen, executive chef and full on-site catering capabilities. The Grand Event Center’s 4,500 square-foot grand ballroom will have 18-foot ceilings, tons of natural light and the ability to accommodate up to 300 guests. The ballroom will also open up to an outdoor courtyard and fire pit that will seat as many as 100 people. “The Grand Event Center will serve as an important amenity to Grandview Yard and the surrounding communities,” said Ellis. “The center’s location and technology assets will support the needs of the corporate community, while the creative spaces and high-touch services will benefit those planning weddings and social events.” The Grand Event Center will also include three additional meeting rooms that can host up to 50 guests each or be reconfigured to accommodate as many as 150 people when combined. Additional amenities will include state of the art audio/visual systems, a reception space, a prefunction social gathering

Complimentary parking will be available in the adjacent 500-space garage, and the center’s lodging needs will be supported by Grandview Yard’s Hyatt Place hotel Nationwide Realty Investors will begin construction on the hotel in May in conjunction with the conference and event facility, The Grand Event Center. The company expects to complete both projects in Summer 2016. The Grandview Yard Courtyard by Marriott will be operated by Columbus Hospitality Management.

attendance at events. It would be a collection of like-minded people who didn’t necessarily know each other; they just knew they wanted to experience more throughout Columbus. The idea for the Columbus Young Professionals Club was simple, the concept caught on, and our first event was hosted in

Marble Cliff Strategic Plan focuses on improving high-quality community The Village of Marble Cliff has set the stage for the future in the form of a strategic plan. Initiated this past Spring by the Mayor and Village Council. The final plan issued in June offered the Village the opportunity to take stock of current conditions in the community and encourage public and private improvements that maintain a high-quality community for residents, businesses and visitors. Guided by local planning firm planning Next, the Village identified eight goals in its action agenda: 1. Improved fiscal strength and stability of the Village’s finances 2. A vision for the Fifth Avenue Corridor 3. Improved identity and image of Marble Cliff 4. Improved utilization of Village-owned property 5. Improved residential property stewardship to maintain high-quality properties 6. Increased communication with residents 7. Increased bike connectivity in the Village and to the regional bike trail system 8. Improved identity and visibility of the Dublin Road Commercial District These goals were further refined to include

Village officials welcome residents’ comments. a total of 34 specific actions for the Village to consider for implementation. Each item was identified within a 5-year timeframe for action as well as resources that might support the effort. Although not all actions may move to implementation, they were deemed worthy enough to merit consideration by the Village. Village Council will direct implementation of the plan. The Village will use the strategic plan will as an ongoing guide as decisions are made regarding development, capital improvements, and economic incentives. This strategic plan supplements the Village’s tools for community planning that currently include both a 5-year economic plan and a 5-year capital improvement plan.

Flexible pay options coming soon for private employers Starting July 1, private employers will be able to pay their annual workers’ compensation premiums in two, four, six or 12 installments. This change was recently approved by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Board of Directors as part of the agency’s switch to prospective billing. Currently, the agency bills after coverage is extended, but as of July, private employers will pay in advance for workers’ compensation coverage. This change in billing will offer a number of benefits, including a 2.4 percent overall base rate reduction for private employers and an increased ability to detect employer noncompliance and fraud. The new payment process will involve paying premium based on estimated payroll for the upcoming coverage year and undergoing a payroll true-up process after the policy year ends to ensure the proper premium was paid. BWC will provide a premium credit to eliminate transition costs for employers. Private employers will receive a notice of estimated annual premium in early June. The notice of estimated annual premium is not a bill. It will include information about how to request changes to estimated payroll
