Grove City Chamber names 2011 Arts in the Alley parade marshal Annual event will commemorates Sept. 11, 2001 This year’s Arts in the Alley parade theme is to honor all first-responders and servicemen and women who responded on 9/11 and subsequently because of 9/11. Remember – Some Gave All. This will be the theme of the parade. The parade is privileged to have a very special parade marshal; First Sgt. Restituto D. Paz of Lima Company. The Arts in the Alley Parade ,hosted by the GCACC in partnership with the Grove City Girls’ Club, will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. The parade will begin at Southwest Boulevard and Broadway, go south on Broadway, east on Columbus Street to Dudley Avenue and ending on Wilbur Avenue. Restituto D. Paz was born in Angeles City, Philippines. He enlisted into the Marine Corps on March 1, 1994, from Warner Robins, Ga., and underwent recruit training with 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Delta Company, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. His personal awards include the Navy and

Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars (in lieu of 5th Award) and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with four bronze star (in lieu of 5th award). In February 2010, Paz was promoted to his present rank and received orders to 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment for duties as Company L, Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant. Company L, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines

(Lima Company) was awarded the General Clifton B. Cates Challenge Trophy as the outstanding ground combat unit in the 4th Marine Division (rein) during 1991. Company L was activated in January 2005 for deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Company L ran continuous operations for seven months in Iraq, collecting valuable information, detaining suspected insurgents and inflicting many casualties to the insurgents and collecting many caches of weapons and explosives. This came at the cost of 22 Company L Marines and one Navy Corpsman who were killed in action and 28 wounded. The company redeployed back to Columbus in October 2005. Since their return, they have been training for the next mobilization in the future. In May 2010, Company L was activated and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The company redeployed back to Columbus in April First Sgt. Restituto D. Paz 2011.
