Car exhibition The Grove City Rotary Club will host a classic car exhibition as part of the homecoming festivities. The event will feature 10-15 of the top cars from last year’s show and will be on display on the east side of Park Street, east of Broadway, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Classic automobiles will be showcased by collectors who make the rounds at different shows. “Most of the cars are local,” Rotary Club Cruise & Ride Chair Dan “Boots” Longenette said. “These are Grove City people who have great classic vehicles.” The exhibition marks fourth year that the Rotary Club has included this event in the celebration. It serves as a preview
of the Cruise & Ride car show that the organization sponsors in September. This year, the event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 24 in the Grove City Town Center. “We hope everyone enjoys the exhibition and wants to come out in September to see more,” Longenette said. For information about this year’s Rotary Cruise & Ride car show, visit www.grovecityrotary.org. The Rotary Club takes part in a number of other hands-on community activities, including a golf outing each May, a Relay for Life survivors’ dinner, and a monthly food pantry donation. The club provides $5,000 annually in scholarships to local high school seniors.

Left to right: Mike Stevens, Josh Bland and Doug Boyce chow down on their “Dawg Pound” during the hot dog eating contest at the 2010 Alumni Tournament Celebration last year on Friday evening. Each contestant had to eat a one-pound “dawg pound” from Hot Dawgs, first to finish won. Terry Harter was that man.
2nd Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest There will be a hot dog eating contest during intermission. Four contestants, two from the Grove City Division of Police and two from the Jackson Township Fire Department will compete to see who can eat the “Dawg Pound” hot dog the quickest. This event is sponsored by Hot Dawgs, the home of the “The Dawg Pound Challenge”. “Eat one of each of our five specialty dawg pounds, and it’s free,” said Ken Jewell, owner of the Grove City Hot Dawgs.
