Darlene Murphy

New Chamber President is ready to get started Incoming president of the Chamber, Darlene Murphy, is ready to get started. Having been a member of the Grove City community for the past 24 years, she has invested herself in the community. After obtaining her real-estate license in 2001 and broker license in 2007, Murphy started her own business,Your Neighborhood Realty, and joined the Chamber. Since then, she has been heavily involved with Chamber programs and even helped begin the Chamber’s current ambassador program. Murphy has spent many hours considering what her new position will look

like and what changes she hopes to see. Here are a few of the goals she has dedicated herself to accomplishing. Her first goal is the establishment of a junior chamber. This will allow students in the area to serve and volunteer in their community. It is going to get young professionals involved and engaged with what is happening in Grove City. The second goal is simply to expose the Chamber to the community. Murphy is dedicated to bringing the Chamber out into the community so they can show what they do, the great path they’re on, and that they’re going to keep going in the right direction. She is excited to develop the idea of progress

through people. Lastly, she wants to express to businesses the importance of a Chamber membership and the benefits it provides. In a statement, Murphy elaborates on her goal to express the importance of the Chamber, “The Chamber has amazing value. Your Chamber membership not only entitles you to a lengthy list of direct benefits for your business, it links you to the community and opens the door to relationships you won’t find anywhere else. From the Business Expo and Taste of Grove City, through Arts in the Alley, and the Annual Auction, the Chamber has been the catalyst for community pride and a quality of life celebrated – and defended – by thou-

How did the Chamber perform for its members overall in the past year? I think overall the Chamber performed well. We expanded educational resources for our members, revived the Southwest Leadership program, entered into an agreement with ThisWeek Community Newspapers (The Grove City Record) to add a monthly insert directed specifically toward Grove City businesses. The chamber continues to be an informational and networking resource as well as an advocate for area businesses.

What was the chamber’s greatest accomplishment last year? It’s hard to pick out one shining moment from the previous year, there have been so many. Starting with the Taste of Grove City and Business Expo that allowed over 150 local businesses and restaurants the opportunity to get in front of hundreds of consumers through Arts in The Alley that brings thousands of people into our great downtown area. Personally, the highlight for me was being able to present four See SEYMOUR, page 2

sands of people, generation after generation. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to serve in 2012 as president, and I look forward to working with the Chamber board and staff on making 2012 a great year for business in Grove City. Won’t you join me?” Members can expect to see a change in community involvement this year. Once again, Murphy is dedicated to the community and wants to press the importance of that to board and Chamber members. Murphy has been impressed with how far the Chamber has come since joining in 2007 and is excited to develop the Chamber even farther in this next year. Darlene Murphy
