The Top Steakhouse

Jean and Denver Adkins grew up eating at The Top, which has been serving up juicy charbroiled steaks and strong gin martinis since 1955. Now the couple runs the venerable Columbus restaurant, with Denver holding court in the kitchen while Jean oversees the dining room.

There aren’t many places left like The Top, a true midcentury throwback that’s been virtually unchanged since the doors opened 65 years ago. Inside, you’ll find the hallmarks of a 1950s supper club: a wood-paneled dining room with leather booths, a shiny copper bar lined with regulars, and the original piano bar, where house pianist Sonia Modes has played almost nightly for five decades.
