Bob Morris Named Grand Marshal of the 2012 City of Dublin Independence Day Celebration

Bob Morris is Grand Marshal of the 2012 Independence Parade and Evening Celebration.

As Grand Marshal, he will lead the parade and oversee the daylong celebration on Wednesday, July 4.

In their nomination of Morris, former Grand Marshals Dave and Margie Amorose said, “Bob has volunteered countless hours in both the business and residential communities of Dublin.

“There are very few people in our City who have given the time and effort Bob Morris has and continues to give to make Dublin the best city in the nation.”

Morris is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor of science degree in political science and a law degree from Capital University Law School.

Morris has been a resident of Dublin since 1983 and was recently appointed to the Unauthorized Practice of Law Board of Commissioners by the Ohio Supreme Court.

After spending the past 12 years practicing law with Morris, Starkey & Waid, he began a new career as magistrate in the Franklin County Probate Court, starting this May. He and his wife, Lynda, have five children, all of whom graduated from Dublin schools.

Jeff Noble, Former Grand Marshal on Flag Etiquette The American flag is the symbol of our country and Jeff Noble, a veteran and the grand marshal of Dublin’s 2011 Independence Day celebration, wants to make sure it receives the respect it deserves.

“Our first president, George Washington, put it in a very special place,” said Jeff Noble, commander of the Wesley G. Davids Dublin Post 800 American Legion, and 2011 grand marshal of Dublin’s Independence Day Celebration said.

In 2011, Noble shared some common errors and mistakes he and fellow veterans see when it comes to flag etiquette.

Many people rise up and salute the flag, and others don’t, Noble said.

Flags are meant to be flown, Noble said, but often people or businesses leave the flag out for too long.

When it gets tattered its needs to be replaced, he said.

Here are a few other pointers Noble offered from the U.S. Flag Code: • The flag should be lighted at all times, either by sunlight or by an appropriate light source.

• The flag should be flown in fair weather, unless the flag is designed for inclement weather use.

• The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing.

• The flag is flown upside down only as a distress signal.

• The flag should not be used for any decoration in general.

Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes.

The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.

• The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose.

It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use.

Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

• The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch can be used on the uni-

form of military personnel, firefighters, police and members of patriotic organizations.

• The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind placed on it, or attached to it.

• The flag should never be used for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

• When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms.

• To store the flag it should be folded neatly

and ceremoniously.

• The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.

• When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.

• When carried in a procession, the flag should be to the right of the marchers.

• When other flags are carried, the flag of the United States may be centered in front of the others or carried to their right.

• When the flag passes in a procession, or when

Joe Walsh Will Help Dublin ‘Let Freedom Rock’ on July 4 Life will be good for Dublin residents July 4 when acclaimed veteran rocker Joe Walsh will headline Dublin’s Independence Day celebration.

The theme of the 2012 Dublin Independence Day Celebration is “Let Freedom Rock.”

Walsh, 65, and a Kansas native, found his greatest commercial success as a member of The Eagles, succeeding guitarist Bernie Leadon in 1976 and first appearing in the band’s seminal “Hotel California” album.

Walsh also appeared on the band’s next and final studio album, “The Long Run,” before The Eagles parted ways until 1994, when the group reunited for an album and tour titled, “Hell Freezes Over.”

All three were No. 1 Billboard albums and spawned No. 1 singles, including Hotel California, Heartache Tonight, and Love Will Keep Us Alive.

But even before joining the Eagles, Walsh had found success as a member of the James Gang as a solo artist.

As a James Gang member in the early 1970s, Walsh’s guitar skills punctuated Funk No. 49 and Walk Away.

As a solo artist, Walsh attracted a loyal and intense following with witty album titles such as “The Smoker You Drunk, the Player You Get” (1973), and rock classics, All Night Long and Rocky Mountain Way. Walsh, as a member of The Eagles, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

In 2012, Walsh performed at the Grammy Awards with Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and David Grohl.

This summer, Walsh is set to release his first solo album in 20 years, “Analog Man.” Field tables for the free concert have been sold out, but free seating is available in the bleachers at the stadium on a firstcome, first-served basis.

The city’s 2012 Independence Day Celebration will kickoff at 8 a.m.

The parade steps off at 11 a.m. at the Metro Center on Wednesday, July 4. The Bike Brigade is open to all children 6 to 13 years old. All participants will be in one group, riding their bicycles together. For added safety, a Washington Township EMS volunteer or a Dublin Bicycle Ambassador will escort the Bike Brigade.
