Congratulations to the 2018 CBUS Top Picks Welcome to the official 2018 CBUS Top Picks reader’s guide — our compilation of the best Columbus has to offer in a wide variety of categories. Though I never underestimate the passion and fierce loyalty displayed by central Ohioans — just look at Campus on any home football Saturday — I always come away from this initiative more impressed than the year before. When we ask you to vote for your favorite favorites you always do — in droves. Near the end of the summer, we kicked off these third-annual CBUS Top Picks and challenged you to nominate your go-to

places to become finalists in 139 categories — the most ever. Once the finalists were set, we opened the virtual polls up once again to determine the three Top Picks, including the overall #1 Top Picks, who were unveiled during our Dec. 5 awards celebration at St. Charles Preparatory School. And before the polls closed you cast an astounding number of votes — just a hair shy of a quarter million! Did any of your selections wind up being #1 Top Picks this year? Find out inside, where we have a rundown of the top three (and the #1’s) in all categories.

One of the goals of these awards is round up the best of the best in Columbus in one handy place (in addition to this section, CBUS Top Picks from this year will live on at CBUSTopPicks.com). And it just so happens that this is a great time of year to announce the awardwinners. It’s the holiday season, after all, and maybe reading this section will spark a last-minute gift idea for a loved one. Maybe your wife deserves a spa day (she does). I have no doubt any one of the three CBUS Top Picks in the Best Spa category will treat her right. Or maybe your husband deserves an

afternoon on the golf course (he might). Similarly, a gift card for 18 holes at one of the public courses noted inside would surely be welcome under the tree. But you’ll find this section handy after your holiday decorations come down, too. And with a quarter million votes behind these collective Top Picks, you can’t go wrong. Bradley M. Harmon President & Publisher Dispatch Media Group

In the 1947 Christmas classic “Miracle on 34th Street,” Macy’s unknowingly hires the real Santa Claus to work in its flagship store in midtown ® Manhattan. Surprisingly, Santa directs parents to other stores for hard-to-find toys. In the movie, the public’s reaction is overwhelmingly positive. The character of R.H. Macy (based on the real company founder) immediately embraces the new policy. “You cannot argue with success,” he exclaims to a room of executives. “Never in my entire career have I seen such a tremendous and immediate response to a merchandising policy… We’ll be known as the helpful store, the friendly store, the store with a heart, the store that places public service ahead of profit. And, consequently, we’ll make more profits than ever before.” Santa Claus and R.H. Macy were both right, according to the Better Business Bureau’s report — BBB 5 Gestures of Trust: A New Framework to Evaluate Customer-Business Relationships. Research suggests that trust boils

down to five critical behaviors trusted businesses exhibit: • Be honest • Be transparent • Be proactive • Be humble • Be equitable “Customers demand more from businesses today,” said Kip Morse, president and CEO of the Central Ohio BBB. “As consumer expectations evolve, especially among younger generations, we see a demand for more than just a smooth financial transaction. To be a better business in today’s marketplace is to see business as a series of ‘human’ transactions. In many cases this might require businesses to be customer centric, employee focused, forward thinking and innovative, as well as environmentally and socially conscious.” Businesses that see themselves as trusted were more likely to demonstrate they value their customers. These actions include making things right, treating employees well, putting customer service ahead of profits and even recommending a competitor if it’s better for the customer. BBB congratulates the 2018 CBUS Top Picks! For information on how BBB works to build a community that allows consumers and businesses to interact with trust, visit bbb.org.

Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber

Rosati Windows

CBUS Top Pick 2018

As an award-winning life plan community with more than 53 years of experience, Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber proudly offers apartment homes, assisted living, memory care, long-term nursing and rehabilitation. We give residents the time and freedom to live life their way. Located in Victorian Village, residents can enjoy fabulous views and are just moments from dining, shopping, sports and entertainment options in downtown Columbus. It is an honor to be 2018 chosen as a Top Pick in

senior living for the third year in a row, and a first-time Top Pick for apartment living. Ohio Living WestminsterThurber is owned and operated by Ohio Living, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit, multi-site aging services organizations. Ohio Living is Great Place to Work — Certified and ranked as one of Fortune magazine’s Best Workplaces in Aging Services 2018.

You have to stand behind a statement like, “The best buying experience in the business.” At Rosati Windows, led under the direction of Mike Rosati since 2000, that commitment to the customer has not changed since day one. “I realize that people have options when choosing replacement windows, so I appreciate each and every one of our customers” Rosati said. “Our prices are competitive, we react quickly to service needs and we control every decision that goes into building and installing our top-quality products.” Rosati Windows stays competitive because everything they do is done locally, right here in Columbus. The business is a one-stop shop from the sales force, to manufacturing the windows in its 60,000 square foot facility on Roberts Road, to the installers and permitting. Keeping it local: This could be one of 2018 the reasons Rosati Win-

dows is a three-time recipient as a CBus Top Pick. Rosati’s visibility around town and around the showroom helps, but it’s the personal touch that he places on every single order that goes through the door that has people constantly recommending Rosati Windows to their neighbors, family and friends. And in the end, what better referral is there than a happy and appreciative customer?
