James T. Hutta Orthodontics puts smiles on central Ohio faces What’s the first thing people notice about you? Your smile! And for the last 25 years, Dr. James T. Hutta has created tens of thousands of stunning smiles in the Columbus area, boosting the confidence of his patients and changing their lives. One visit to the office of Dr. James T. Hutta and Dr. Jeffery Price and it’s easy to see why this dynamic orthodontic practice has won countless awards in central Ohio. James T. Hutta Orthodontics has been voted as Columbus CEO’s Best Dental Practice in 2016 and 2017, New Albany’s Best Orthodontist in 2017 and has been named ThisWeek News Readers’ Choice Best Orthodontist for four years in a row.

Another way James T. Hutta Orthodontics stands out? The practice’s investment in cutting-edge technology. Not only do Dr. Hutta and Dr. Price use premium Damon brackets, Insignia Advanced Smile Design and Invisalign, they were also one of the first practices in Ohio to invest in a 3-D printer and scanner, allowing the doctors to take digital impressions of a patient’s teeth and print clear aligners and other products right in their office. So whether your child needs braces or you’re considering correcting your own smile, schedule a complimentary consultation by calling 614-855-8800 and begin your journey with James T. Hutta Orthodontics.

Patients love their experience with James T. Hutta Orthodontics “What’s not to love about Dr. Hutta and his staff? Super attentive. Check. Outstanding service. Check. Compassionate and empathetic. Check. Loves Buckeye football. Check! Lol. This is by far the greatest group of individuals who form a superb team. They display a professionalism that stands out above the rest and establish an immediate rapport with their clients, making them feel welcome the second they enter the office. I thank you all for your caring and professional attitudes!!” —Sara R. “On top of the amazing staff that works here, they made it possible for me to be confident with my smile. Now during teeth cleanings every dental hygienist asks me, ‘Wow, who did your braces? Your teeth look amazing!’ The second that I say Hutta, they have nothing but great things to say about the team there and awesome work they do. Thank you for that!” —Heather S. “Dr. Price and Dr. Hutta are the best in the business, hands down! I received the best care from everyone in the office from day one. My

teeth look amazing and I am so pleased with all of the results!! Look no further...this is the only practice you should go to for all of your orthodontics needs!” —Laurie D. “The best doctors out there. Not only are they going to give you that perfect smile, they are going to make you feel welcome and like a part of their team! They are personable and do an awesome job with our daughter.” —Jim M. “I could not be more pleased with the care I have received at the office. From the moment I walk in to the time I leave. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I always wanted to invest in Invisalign, and I’m so glad my dentist referred me to this practice. Dr. Hutta stayed late once to squeeze my appointment in last minute. Dr. Price has been so thorough in making sure all my trays and adjustments are correct. I can honestly say I love going to my orthodontist appointments! I am so excited about my results thus far. I’m grateful that I’m receiving the smile I’ve always dreamed about!” —Hope R.

Mount Carmel New Albany, 7333 Smith’s Mill Road, recently received the Guardian of Excellence Award from national healthcare research firm Press Ganey Associates for 12 consecutive years for sustained excellence in patient care.

Mount Carmel New Albany recognized for award-winning care As a specialty hospital, Mount Carmel New Albany is well known for its technologically advanced inpatient and outpatient orthopedic, neurologic and musculoskeletal care. But it’s just as well regarded for its unique caring and service philosophy that tailors care for each and every patient. In fact, Mount Carmel New Albany has received the Guardian of Excellence Award from national healthcare research firm Press Ganey Associates for 12 consecutive years for sustained excellence in patient care. Just being considered requires a three-year ranking in the 95th percentile for patient satisfaction.

The 60-bed hospital is proud to rank in the 99th. Mount Carmel New Albany also has earned the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) highest rating, 5 stars, in patients’ experience of care. That high patient satisfaction is driven in part by the numerous comfort and convenience amenities that are hallmarks of the hospital, including high-speed internet access; a full-service cafe with atyour-request room service; flat screen televisions and DVD players in each patient room. It’s a relaxing patient and family atmosphere in a serene environment surrounded by on-campus nature trails. The rest of that high-touch feeling

excellent patient and family care on a number of occasions,” said Mount Carmel New Albany President, Diane Doucette.

“Our physicians, nurses and staff place excellent care and personalized customer service at the top of their lists every day. But we are also proud of our reputation of high quality programs and the outcomes they produce for our patients.” That includes being recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2016, and becoming one of a select group of hospitals in the United States to receive certification from The Joint Commission for both its joint replacement program as well as spine surgery. “Disease-specific certification is a two-year certification that requires

that we comply with national standards; use appropriate, evidencebased clinical practices; and collect and analyze key performance measures for each program,” Doucette added. “Both the hospital and our staff met or exceeded each standard during our review by the commission and continue to do so. It’s something we’re very proud of.” “What it all means is that patients who trust us with their care can be certain they’re getting the very best available,” said Doucette, “and they’ll know we’ll do everything possible to make their stay with us as comfortable, convenient and satisfying as they can imagine.”

Active participatory learning propels Ready Set Grow! Remember your own early childhood days? Running, climbing and swinging on the playground, digging in the sandbox, painting at the easel, building with blocks, playing with friends? If you attended a high-quality preschool program, you were provided with plenty of materials to explore and you made exciting discoveries every day. Educational research confirms these experiences as essential to healthy early childhood development. Hands-on learning engages all areas of the brain and sets the foundation for later school success. This is the education you want for your child! You’ll find it at Ready Set Grow, a

nurturing haven for child development. As a leader and innovator in early childhood education, Ready Set Grow implements the High Scope curriculum. Research-based and child-focused, High Scope uses “active participatory learning” to achieve powerful, positive outcomes for children. Whether engaged in childselected play experiences, teacher-led small group experiences, or movement-focused large group experiences, children are active participants in their own learning. As parents, teachers, and educational researchers have discovered, the High Scope curriculum, with its active learning approach, not only helps young children excel in language and cognitive learning,

but also promotes independence, curiosity, decision-making, cooperation, persistence, creativity and problem-solving — the fundamental skills necessary for success in adult life. “It’s a very natural way of learning,” says Maggie Spangler, Director of Education at Ready Set Grow. “When an infant, toddler or preschool child is curious about something in their world, they naturally want to explore and learn more. When adults nurture that curiosity by providing enriching experiences, children discover new ideas and master new skills. At Ready Set Grow, our teachers are constantly assessing children’s development and interests,

encouraging curiosity and exploration, and helping children grow as life-long learners.” Ready Set Grow’s approach to early childhood education is unique in New Albany. Always focused on the very best for young children, their large, three-building campus has sunshine in every classroom, large play areas, natural decor, plenty of enriching play materials, and a specially trained, nurturing staff. Since the founding of the New Albany Arts Council in 1993, our mission has been to promote the art and artists of our community. Artists, both visual and performance based, are a vital part of keeping our city at the forefront of the arts in central Ohio. Two of our performing groups will also celebrate anniversaries in 2018. The New Albany Chorus turns 25 and will celebrate with a concert on May 20, featuring their favorite songs, both past and present. The New Albany Winds, who made their debut at the opening week dedication of the McCoy Center, will also celebrate their 10th anniversary. Both ensembles present concerts throughout the year, including the annual Concert on the Commons in June and Night Moves in October. Fans of the Rose Run Players have much to be excited about next year as well. The youth performing troupe will expand their season from one show to three. Children ages 9-16 and their parents will not want to miss our January 27 Rose Run Players 2018 Launch Party, where we will announce our shows and audition dates. But adult thespians do not need to

feel left out. We are hard at work creating opportunities for adult participation in theater. Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page to learn more as information becomes available. All of our programs are made possible through the dedicated work of volunteers, financial support of local businesses, grant opportunities from the New Albany Community Foundation and City of

New Albany as well as the continued support and participation of our membership. Join the New Albany Arts Council today or find out more about our programs and events at newalbanyarts.org.

Fun, healthy, active:

New Albany Parks & Recreation Enjoy a vibrant park district with an abundance of sports and recreational opportunities. Operated by New Albany-Plain Local Joint Park District, NA Parks annually serves the 5,300 families residing within the New Albany-Plain Local School District, the Village of New Albany and Plain Township. Consisting of more than 200 acres of parkland, the park district offers 38 baseball, football, soccer and lacrosse fields. Complexes at Bevelhymer Park and Thompson Park provide seven tennis courts, a basketball court, walking trails, playgrounds, pavilions and concession stands. The Wexner Community Park,

available for family gatherings as well as community events, offers a pavilion with fireplace, warming kitchen, restrooms and adjacent playground and lawn space. The primary source of funding is a permanent operating levy passed in November 2016 by the

residents of the park district. These funds are used for all operating costs including utilities, equipment, wages and supplies. The permanent operating levy is also the source of funds for capital improvements or purchases. For more information, visit naparks.org.

Creative ways for small town residents to give back Giving back to one’s community is a great way for men and women to make use of their talents and foster strong towns and cities. Volunteering opportunities abound in big cities, but small town residents may not have as many options as they look for ways to give back. Small town residents looking to give back may need to create their own opportunities if the options available to them do not suit their fancies. • Contact local schools. Teachers, afterschool caregivers and coaches can always use some helping hands. Contact local schools to determine if there is any way to help out. Prospective volunteers might be able to read to young children, serve as assistant coaches for youngsters’ sports teams or even help tend to playing fields. Small town school budgets tend to be stretched thin, so chances are local educators will welcome citizens looking to pitch in with open arms. • Start a program through your place of employment. Another way for small town residents to give back to their communities is to begin a mentoring or internship program through their places of employment. Once their employers give the go-ahead, men and women can begin working with local high schools and/or colleges to develop programs that encourage youngsters to gain professional experience that can benefit them as they apply to college or graduate school or prepare to begin their own careers. • Start a volunteering group. Small town residents without much access to volunteering programs can organize groups through their offices or neighborhoods. Organize groups willing to pitch in with charities such as Habitat for Humanity¨. Group leaders can arrange transportation to work sites for members of the group while working as liaisons between their community groups and the organizations they choose to work with. • Work with area hospitals. Similar to school districts, many hospitals would struggle to meet their missions of providing compassionate care if not for the contributions of

volunteers. Contact area hospitals to learn about volunteering. Some may need volunteers to read to sick children, while others may need help keeping elderly patients company. Small town residents may not have a wealth of volunteering opportunities at their disposal. But with a little creativity, such men and women can still give back to their communities.

Something new every day at Aquarium Adventure Aquarium Adventure in Hilliard showcases the largest and best selection of tropical, marine, and pond fish in the country. This 11,000-square-foot aquarium superstore features a huge variety of aquariums, aquarium furniture and supplies. The fish, invertebrates and plants are presented in aquarium displays that are entertaining and educational. The store layout conveys to shoppers

and visitors the wonders and benefits of having an aquarium in your home or place of business. Aquarium Adventure was designed with families and professionals in mind. This showplace is a fun place to visit and explore our aquatic world. Travel from continent to continent and see fish and invertebrates indigenous to the lakes, rivers, streams and oceans located throughout the

world. The best part, when you finish your journey you can opt to take home your own ecosystem. At Aquarium Adventure we offer everything from starter kits to full custom installation. Whether you already have an aquarium or are considering one, we can offer professional advice on all aspects of your system. Let our staff help you with everything from plumbing

and electric to water conditions and questions about the care of your fish. With custom installations we coordinate everything from the design and architecture through engineering and construction. We also offer complete maintenance of your system including cleaning and stocking of new fish and supplies. Rest assured, we’ll be there when needed. Owner Bill Wymard set up his first aquarium at the age of 10. He had no idea that several decades later he would be keeping more than 500 aquariums. He had no idea he would still have the same passion and enthusiasm for fish that he did when he was so young. With a degree in marine biology and an excitement about all things fish, it just seemed natural that the two would blend to make his lifelong dream come true. He wanted to build the biggest and best aquarium store in the country. With the help of his wife Sandy, many talented, supportive friends and family members, Aquarium Adventure in June 1997 opened its doors to rave reviews in Columbus.

www.aquariumadventurecolumbus.com Sandy Wymard’s experience in retail management, design and merchandising allow this husband and wife team to do what they both enjoy. They are quick to give the credit of their success to the many people who have helped them along the way, especially their knowledgeable, talented, sincere and long-term associates at the store. They will tell you that they learn something new every day at Aquarium Adventure, and the openness to learning new things energizes them. We pride ourselves in having the widest selection of healthy fish, corals and plants. Our staff biologists check the

health of all our aquatic life. This ensures that our fish, no matter where they’re from, are as beautiful and healthy as they would be in the wild. Aquarium Adventure believes that all underwater worlds hold great fascination, splendor and knowledge. Their hope is that you will too. “Because we must responsibly coexist with our world, we are committed to understanding and enriching the knowledge of our aquatic eco-systems through education and guidance to ensure the preservation of our hobby and our environment.” Bill Wymard Marine Biologist Aquarium Adventure

2016 Columbus Top Picks WINNER All Tails R Waggin’ won first place in the 2016 first annual Columbus Dispatch Top Picks for Best Kennel/ Doggie Daycare in Columbus. It was also among the top three for grooming. This year, they are confident they will win first place in both categories! All Tails’ recently opened daycare and training wing is a favorite amongst customers and the staff. “Everyone loves it,” said owner Renee Nichols. The socialization and exercise that doggie daycare provides is an important aspect for a well-rounded pooch. The facility is open for daycare every day of the week! Going holiday shopping, having a party or watching the game? Drop off your pooch at All Tails. Their new selfservice salon has a walk-in shower for larger breeds, two raised tub stations, high-powered dryers and professional grooming tables. Customers are given a tote filled with towels, brushes, grooming tools and great-smelling cologne. Nichols visited other basic “dog wash” facilities, and wanted people to have an upscale experience coming to All Tails. She definitely accomplished this! Don’t want to “do it yourself ”? You can always call upon their professional grooming team. Their highly qualified groomers are ready to provide your pet with a fabulous grooming experience. Need training? All Tails has a variety of packages for every budget and issue. Daycare equals a happy, tired pooch. Training equals a happy, relieved pet owner! “Our training has taken off and has been a great success, call us if you need help,” Nichols said. Compared to other kennels, All Tails has very spacious accommodations, starting at just $22 a day. The most economical lodging is their 4-foot by 14-foot run, which includes three exercise/potty breaks a day. They currently

boast 53 private deluxe suites that cater to only the most spoiled pets. They just completed a new elite suites wing, which are secluded away from the main kennel area, making your pet’s experience a little more home-like and quiet. You can choose one with or without a patio, but all suites come with a TV, toddler bed, window and four outdoor breaks a day. “Simply put, we truly do have the best suites, said Nichols, who graduated from Ohio State University in 1993, and shortly thereafter decided to follow her love of animals. She started her grooming business in late 1994, then moved to the current location and again expanded in 1999 by building the original pet care center. The following year, she designed the first deluxe suites of their kind in Ohio. Unlike the big chain facilities, Nichols prides herself on working and running her own business, every day. “Customers love that I live onsite, and know I’m always overseeing everything,” she said. “They mention our great reviews, as well as complimenting me on such an awesome staff. We have a very friendly and experienced team, most of who have been with us many years. I am very blessed.” All Tails is a member of the New Albany Chamber of Commerce, and is just five miles east of the heart of New Albany, on old St. Rt. 161, exit Mink St. If you need anything for your pet, take a minute to look them up online at www.Alltails.com or call (740) 927-0555. “Come tour our facility anytime. We really want you and your pets to become a part of our All Tails family,” Nichols said.

‘The Cooperative Difference’ The Energy Cooperative, a not-forprofit energy enterprise founded in 1936, is headquartered in Newark and serves more than 63,000 electric, natural gas and propane members in 15 counties throughout east-central Ohio. It is under the direct control of its member/ consumers who elect directors to oversee Cooperative operations. From its inception, The Energy Cooperative has been guided by one strategy throughout—an emphasis on people, not profit. It’s that strategy which makes the cooperative difference and allows local people to ensure for themselves the best possible rates and service quality to meet their needs. The foundation for the success of The Energy Cooperative can be found in the Seven Principles that are the framework for doing business: 1. Voluntary and Open Membership 2. Democratic Member Control 3. Member’s Economic Participation 4. Autonomy and Independence 5. Education, Training and Information 6. Cooperation Among Cooperatives 7. Concern for Community The Cooperative has more than 175 employees with a wide variety of experience and talent. These employees support the principle framework by being committed to providing safe and reliable energy to our member/owners with highly-responsive service. The Energy Cooperative strives to ensure that the communities we serve are enhanced due to our presence. The cooperative continues to expand its reach with electric and natural gas service to meet the energy needs of consumers in western Licking County. The Energy Cooperative

recently completed the construction of The Smith’s Mill Substation near the intersection of Jug Street and Beech Road in New Albany. This substation currently serves 670 members with the potential to serve more residential, commercial and

industrial members in the New Albany and Johnstown areas. At the same time the cooperative is expanding its natural gas service in the Johnstown area and is now fueling a portion of its fleet vehicles with propane.

GROWING TO MEET YOUR NEEDS.

Since 1936, The Energy Cooperative has been providing safe and reliable energy in 15 counties in central Ohio. To meet the needs of our growing residential and commercial consumers, we are expanding both our electric and natural gas services into western Licking County. This is an exciting time of growth and development for The Energy Cooperative and its membership. We look forward to many more years of providing safe, reliable energy, and great member service, right in your own backyard!

New Albany Ballet Company 18 Years Strong and Still Growing The New Albany Ballet Company is always full of excitement this time of year as we gear up for our annual Nutcracker performances. This year is no exception. With 220 young dancers, guest performers formerly of Columbus BalletMet and The Pittsburgh Ballet, this year’s performances are sure to impress. Having been in our new, state-of-the-art facility for a year now, we continue to grow and maximize our 19,000-squarefoot facility. However, don’t let our name fool you, we may be the New Albany Ballet Company, but ballet is not all in which we excel. We provide outstanding instruction in all dance genres, including tap, jazz, modern and hip-hop. We offer a broad range of classes sure to meet anyone’s needs. The Children’s Division classes start as young as 2 years old and provide plenty of day, evening and Saturday options. Whether you stay at home or work full time, the schedule accommodates all. We even have several different daytime options to work around the much-needed 2- and 3- yearold nap schedule. Along with an expanded Children’s Division came a much larger General Division program. Our dance classes for boys continue to grow and be successful. Yes, almost every

little girl takes ballet at some point, but we can’t let the girls have all the fun. We now offer boys-only ballet classes for ages 5-8 and for 10 and up. In addition, NABC still provides boys-only tap and hip-hop classes. Boys are allowed to try a few classes for free before committing to the program. NABC has developed a beginning teen program where students ages 12 and up who have less dance experience can have the opportunity to try a ballet, tap, jazz, modern or hip-hop class with students their same age and skill level. Most dance studios combine beginning teenagers in with younger students. NABC allows these teens to try classes with other teens. Dance is social, and we understand the desire to be with your peer group. Dance isn’t just for the young,

but also for the young-at-heart. NABC is now offering several adult dance classes in ballet, tap and hip-hop. Whether you, your toddler, child or teen wants to dance, NABC has what you need. NABC is central Ohio’s leader in training classical ballet. Our faculty and student’s

accomplishments speak for themselves. But we understand not all students are looking for such a serious dance-training program. Many students just want to dance for fun. We offer classes for those students and welcome anyone new to try a class for free at anytime. Not everyone decides to dance in

the beginning of the fall. That’s why we allow new students the opportunity to try a class year-round and join into our program mid year. We have the space, faculty and programming to allow a wonderful opportunity for all. For more information, call (614) 939-9058 or email info@ newalbanyballet.com.

Winter Quarter Classes Begin December 1st.
