Imagine snapping your fingers and like magic, all of your VHS tapes and film reels are preserved forever.

These precious memories can be converted to DVDs, put on a flash drive, or even uploaded to a private YouTube channel for friends and relatives to view.

Dublin native Mark Mahaffey founded mtek media in 2006 when he was 15 years old. He thought the business would only be around a few years, and even he is amazed that 11 years later, the company is having a recordbreaking year.

According to Mahaffey, most customers come in and have a grocery sack full of VHS tapes, but no equipment to play them on. They realize these tapes go bad after about 15 years and if they don’t do something, those special memories will be lost forever. At $13 per tape, it is much cheaper than other alternatives.

Mahaffey opened mtek media’s office in historic Dublin in 2010, and business has grown year after year.

What happens when there are no more tapes left to convert? Mahaffey explained that he doesn’t think it will be in the next few years. However, always planning for the future, mtek just launched a

new business called photos in the mail (photosinthemail.com), which is not an app, but an easy way to get high-quality prints of images delivered to you in the mail each month. For a monthly fee, you take a picture, send an email to photos@ photosinthemail.com, and get your pictures in the mail by the 10th of the following month. mtek-media.com photosinthemail.com
