Groveport … central Ohio’s ‘Recreation Destination’ Over the last ten years, the City of Groveport has become central Ohio’s recreation destination. The suburb is located just southeast of Columbus and changed from Village to City status in 2011. With just over 5,200 residents, the City of Groveport has many amenities that many larger communities can only dream of, including over 200 acres of developed park land and more than five miles of both paved and unpaved paths.

The Groveport Aquatic Center opened in the spring of 2003. This affordable family-friendly outdoor water park has received numerous awards over the years. The facility is complete with a zero-depth entry pool with an in-water playground, 450 foot lazy river with inner tubes, (2) giant water slides, diving boards, giant shade umbrellas, tots sprayground and much more.

While patrons are at the facility they can visit the Sporleder Food Service Concession Stand for some tasty food and treats.

A number of special events are held at the facility including Super Family Sundays, VIP Night, Fins & Feet Biathlon and the season ending Dog Paddle Palooza (formerly “Paws In The Pool”).

This event is scheduled for Thursday, September 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. For years, dog owners from around central Ohio bring their dogs for a fun evening in the water. Cost of admittance is only $2/dog and humans are free, but are not permitted in the pool. Registrants must provide up-to-date dog vaccination records to be admitted.

The Groveport Aquatic Center also offers a number of Appreciation Weeks throughout the summer, which enable military/veterans, teachers, police officers, fire fighters/EMTs and government workers free admission. The facility’s staff also teaches hundreds of kids how to swim each summer during its Learn to Swim Program. Many parents also treat their kids to a Birthday Party at the facility. Packages include admission for 20 guests, 90-minute room reservation, pizza, soda, Dairy Queen ice cream cake and more. The facility typically opens for the season Memorial

Just across the parking lot from the Groveport Aquatic Center is the 67,000 square foot Groveport Recreation Center. This community recreation center opened in January of 2004 and is considered to be one of the top municipal recreation centers in the state. Although ten years old, the facility is in outstanding condition and is home to a massive fitness center with top-of-the-line cardiovascular and strength training equipment, 1/10 mile 3-lane elevated track, 2-hardwood floor gymnasiums, group fitness class studio, heated pool, 30 foot rock climbing wall, expansive lounge area, baby sitting room, locker rooms, meeting rooms and more. If you are not sure where to begin, you may want to schedule a consultation with one of our personal trainers.

Annual passes to the Groveport Recreation Center are very reasonable when compared to other facilities with similar amenities.

The facility also offers discounts for Groveport residents, active military, police officers, fire fighters and persons with permanent disabilities. The facility does not charge any initiation fees and monthly billing is available for a nominal fee. The staff would be happy to provide you with a tour and answer any questions that you may have.

The Groveport Parks & Recreation Dept. offers year-round leisure programming at its facilities for the entire family, including swim lessons, fitness classes, special events, youth athletic leagues, camps & clinics, adult athletic leagues, birthday party packages and much more. Persons do not have to be pass holders to the Groveport Recreation Center to participate in our programs.

Seniors (those 55 years of age and older) in the area spend a lot of their free time at the Groveport Senior Center. The senior center offers a number of activities, including card playing,

Golfers from all over central Ohio frequent The Links At Groveport. This once private 18-hole course is now owned and operated by the City of Groveport. The course is par 72, has tree-lined fairways and small greens.

The course also has a club house, banquet facility, driving range and practice putting green. The course offers affordable public play, golf outings, lessons and more. The Links At Groveport is also home to Lovell’s Grille, which offers a fantastic menu with great food for before, during and after your round of golf.

If you are looking for arts and education for all ages, look no further than the historic Groveport Town Hall. The city’s Community Affairs Department operates the facility. Rooms in Town Hall are available for rent. The first floor includes the Art Gallery, which features rotating exhibits. The Groveport Heritage Museum is also located on the first floor and displays artifacts and memorabilia dating to the early 19th century.

Little ones (between the ages of 3 and 10 years) are sure to enjoy Crooked Alley KidSpace. This facility is complete with a small library, a large multipurpose meeting room and an outdoor playground. KidSpace offers arts and education classes (dance, music, special events, preschool child-parent playgroup, etc.) which are run by the Community Affairs Department. This facility is also available for private and community gatherings.

The City of Groveport and Three Creeks Metro Park staff offer weekly science and nature programming at the Heritage Nature Center, a log house that dates back to 1825. The center has a nice selection of nature-related artifacts for kids to look at, including taxidermy animals, skulls and animal skins.

AIAMs 12-month Western Massage Therapy Program is what planted the seed, enabling AIAM to grow and prosper. The WMT program is a combination of classroom education, including sought-after business skills, as well as hands-on experience treating patients in AIAMs clinic. WMT students treat patients for many ailments including muscle stiffness, anxiety, posture and tension. With this combination of business skills and experience, AIAM helps WMT students discover and reach their full potential as healers.

Diley Ridge celebrates its anniversary, impact The partnership between Mount Carmel Health System and Fairfield Medical Center that produced Diley Ridge Medical Center is officially four years old. And while that may not seem like a major milestone, it is when you think about what all Diley Ridge has come to mean to northern Fairfield County in that short period of time.

It’s meant more than having a free-standing, full-service, 24-hour emergency department and diagnostic center in the community. It’s meant more than adding the services of a full clinical laboratory, state-of-the-art imaging center and women’s health center, too. It’s meant more than welcoming the variety of primary care and specialty physicians who practice at the campus’ 46,000-square-foot medical office building. It’s even meant more than adding the pediatric urgent care services provided at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Close to Home Center.

“What it’s really meant is access,” said Diley Ridge Medical Center President & COO Jodi Wilson. “Not just access to exceptional care, but access to that care where our patients live. Living away from the city shouldn’t mean giving up access to the care that’s available there. Diley Ridge has provided that access 24 hours a day for four years now.”

“We’ve been a real model for how competitors can come together and use what each does best to create something truly special,” Wilson added, “and that’s what Diley Ridge is.”

The quality of the facilities and the array of services aren’t the only things that have made Diley Ridge special. The people have played a tremendous role

The board-certified emergency medicine physicians, nurses, technicians and support associates aren’t just serving the community. They’re part of the community.

“Our associates are so special,” Wilson said proudly. “They’re from the community and take pride in taking care of the community. It’s personal for them, because their next patient could

be their son or daughter’s soccer coach.”

Being so close to Pickerington, Groveport, Canal Winchester, Carroll, Baltimore and Violet Township has had an impact on local EMS as well. Since they can take their emergency patients to Diley Ridge instead of the Columbus hospitals, they’re back in their communities far faster, helping more people in the process. And that was part of Diley

Ridge’s vision when the doors opened four short years ago.

“We were an unknown entity when we started out, but we’re so pleased with the reputation we’ve earned in such a short time,” said Wilson. “We’re here to take care of the community. I think we’ve shown that, and our patient satisfaction scores suggest our neighbors agree.”

Canal Winchester Blues & Rib Fest set for this weekend Rain or shine, the 5th annual Canal Winchester Blues & Rib Fest will take place this weekend, Friday, Aug 1 and Saturday, Aug. 2. This event is Ohio’s only Blues and Rib Festival. Join the fun in Historic Downtown Canal Winchester from 5 to 11 p.m.

Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday.

When it comes to rehabilitation, it is hard to beat what Scioto Community offers. Our rehab unit encompasses 39 private suites, all of which have their own private bathroom with a walk-in shower. And for those rehab patients that may be with us for an extended period of time and/or find it beneficial to have a loved one at their side for added comfort, our seven transitional care suites offer 500 square feet of space.

This space provides two living areas …

one for our patient and the other for their loved one. Both living areas offer comfortable sleeping arrangements, flat screen televisions and tons of closet space. Plus, these suites offer a kitchenette that includes a sink, microwave, refrigerator and plenty of cabinet space.

Bob McDorman Automotive Museum: “A Showcase of the American Dream!”

This beautiful 22,500 square foot facility showcases the automotive history of General Motors through a rotating display of vehicles, signs and automobilia from the personal collections of Bob McDorman.

A “Half-Century” Chevrolet dealership owner and 2012 Corvette Hall of Fame inductee, Bob is eager to share a lifetime of extensive automotive knowledge and personal expertise with museum guests.

Visitors will see a breathtaking mix of pristine vehicles representing key model years, milestone production vehicles, rare signage and artifacts from the golden age of automotive history.

The collection is ever-changing with new items constantly being added to fully represent GM’s fascinating product story. The Museum is open Wednesday thru Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Admission cost is $10 for adults, $7 for military and seniors 65 and older, children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.
