The Smart Card, available to children from birth to 17 years has no fines!
Helping kids get smart Library fines: they often stop parents from signing their children up for their own library cards. The Marysville Public Library is breaking down barriers to learning by introducing a new library card, available to any child, from birth to 17 years, without accruing fines. The new library card, called a Smart Card, provides access to juvenile print materials, audio books, and electronic resources. Each child will be able check out up to five items at a time. Children can simply sign up when they arrive at the library; a parent does not need to be present. “Busy parents with three or four kids often stop coming to the library, because if they forget to return materials on time,
the fees can add up, said Patron Services Manager Ashley Gahm. “By providing a Smart Card, parents can feel at ease knowing that there are no fines, she added. The card will not accrue fines for overdue materials, but replacement costs for any items that are lost or returned damaged will apply. “The card also helps kids have ownership and feel proud about reading and learning, said Kate McCartney, Youth Services Manager. Parents have the choice to deactivate the card at any time. For more information, contact the Marysville Public Library at (937) 642-1876 or ask@marsyvillelib.org.
