Grove City Family Dentistry From the moment patients walk in the door at Grove City Dentistry, the team of professional wants them to feel at ease.

“It starts with the facility,” says Dr. Paula Zimmerman. From the waiting room with a kids area to all of the theme-based operatories, including a Buckeye room, rock ’n roll room, Nashville room and a C-Bus room, Grove City Dentistry likes to makes patients as comfortable as possible and take the fear out of visiting the dentist.

“Each of the practice’s 15 operatory rooms has its own unique theme, in fact, with matching decor and a TV on

Grove City Family Dentistry opened in 1960 with a single dentist. Dr. Craig Oiler grew up visiting the practice and took it over after completing dental school in the 1990s. From there, the practice added Dr. Zimmerman, Dr. Brian Mitchell, Dr. Ryan Niemic and most recently, Dr. Christopher Turner. Like Oiler, Turner had been coming

BEST OF GROVE CITY: Grove City Parks and Recreation & the Grove City Town Center

T

here is always something to do in Grove City. As spring blossoms into summer, residents and visitors will appreciate the long, warm days experiencing the outdoors on their own and as a community at special events without leaving town. Enjoy quiet contemplation in acres of passive green space at one of 21 area parks, experience historic Town Center or feel the energy at organized community gatherings.

The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department manages and coordinates a wide range of recreational, educational, cultural arts and athletic programs and services for residents and visitors of all ages including outdoor education, concerts, sports and aquatics as well as fitness, enrichment and educational activities. The department, which oversees more than 320 acres of public parkland, is one of just 12 in Ohio and 166 nationwide to earn full accreditation from the Commission on Accredited Parks and Recreation Agencies.

Devoted to expanding recreational opportunities for and connecting to the greater central Ohio region, Grove City is pleased to be the home of the 620acre Scioto Grove Metro Park. Located on the eastern edge of Grove City along the Scioto River, the park offers multiuse access to the river as well as shelters, hiking and biking paths, play areas, a new drone field for FAA registered drone users and more.

Grove City boasts parkland ranging from mini and neighborhood parks convenient to subdivisions, featuring meditative space or playground equipment, to larger community parks with special features that serve as destination points for Grove City

residents and beyond. Upgrades to existing and potential park space helps to achieve the goal of a fully interconnected community, integrating miles of bike and leisure paths, including the West Water Run bike path where Beulah Park once stood, opening Saturday, May 5.

Windsor Park is home to Little League baseball and the Evans Center, a haven of service and socializing for older members of the community. Among the ball diamonds of varying dimensions lies the Mirolo Dream Field at Mount Carmel Stadium with a special playing surface that extends the opportunity to participate in organized baseball to athletes of all abilities. The Buddy Ball program added an adult league in 2017, featuring Tuesday evening games under the lights. Windsor Park is also home to the recently dedicated Dream Field playground, an outdoor play space providing inclusive play opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

Gantz Park is a perennial favorite with serene paths winding through mature woods, play equipment, rentable shelters and themed herb gardens with a meditational labyrinth and herbal grove.

Henceroth Park offers an eco-friendly experience and acres of green space with solar lighting, a wooded nature trail, butterfly garden, bluebird boxes and playground equipment fashioned from recycled materials. The park is home to the Purple Heart Memorial Walk, featuring tributes to fallen service members, offering opportunities for quiet reflection.

Take in some open-air entertainment at Fryer Park with weekly outdoor family movies Thursdays, June 7 through July 26. Daily activities abound at the

park’s softball diamonds, fishing pond, paved and wooded paths, space-themed playground, sledding hill and at Century Village’s expanding slate of vintage buildings. New this year to Fryer Park is the splash pad. Opening Saturday, May 19, the interactive water play area offers a refreshing and fun way for children of all ages and abilities to cool off on a hot day.

Specialized parks include the Grove City Skate Park offering concrete bowl and street obstacles for inline skaters and skateboarders; The Big Splash Family Aquatics Center providing residents and season pass holders a place to fend off summer’s heat on body slides and aquatic climbing walls; Breck Community Park furnishing pet owners a place to exercise and socialize their dogs off leash; and a disk golf course located on the campus of the Grove City Church of the Nazarene.

The historic Grove City Town Center, the heart of the community since 1852, continues its resurgence, bustling with activity through the warmer months as people enjoy the Grove City Public Library, the Grove City Museum and Visitors Center, shops, restaurants and other welcoming spaces. Various events fill the George Edge Music Park on Broadway and surrounding areas with the sounds and color of summer, including Friday night outdoor concerts and Saturday morning farmers’ markets. Enjoy the wares of Ohio wineries and artisans at the Wine and Arts Festival Friday, June 15, and Saturday, June 16; and whiskey crafters at the Bourbon Tasting, Saturday, Aug. 11.

Last year, OhioHealth began construction of OhioHealth Grove City Methodist Hospital and the Grove City Surgery Center to bring more medical services to Grove City.

The first phase of construction — now complete — was the ambulatory surgery center, a partnership between OhioHealth and local physicians. The center specializes in outpatient surgeries, which means patients who have surgery there will go home the same day and do not need to stay overnight at the hospital. A variety of outpatient surgical procedures are performed there, including:

+ Colon and rectal surgery + Gastroenterological surgery + General surgery + Gynecological surgery + Orthopedic surgery + Physiatry + Plastic and reconstructive surgery + Podiatric surgery + Spine surgery + Urological surgery “The surgery center opened in April and now we are even closer to the opening of the hospital this fall,” says Kevin Lutz, DPM, chief operating officer of Grove City Methodist Hospital. “We are excited to continue expanding our OhioHealth presence here. We are thrilled to strengthen our commitment to a healthier Grove City.”

New Hospital Includes Emergency Department, Surgical Focus The three-story, 26-bed hospital, which will open this October, is the second phase of construction and was designed to enhance the entire patient experience, similar to OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital.

It will also serve as a connection point for other services in the OhioHealth system.

“The new hospital will initially focus on surgery and 24/7 emergency care,” says Lutz. “More specialized services will be added as we continue to evaluate and respond to community needs.”

Imaging, laboratory, pharmacy and food services will also be available on-site.

“There is a need for OhioHealth’s emergency services in Grove City,” says Lutz. “When people experience an emergency, they need expert care — fast.

Many patients who live here travel to OhioHealth’s larger hospitals, like Dublin, Grant, Doctors or Riverside in an emergent situation. Now they will be able to receive care from OhioHealth without leaving their community.”

This new hospital will also bring 285 new jobs to Grove City in addition to the nearly 150 OhioHealth associates already working in the community.

When messes start to creep up, it is probably time to commit to getting more organized.

The secrets to being an organized family Modern families seem to be juggling more than ever before. When time seems to be a luxury, an ability to stay organized can help families manage the hustle and bustle of daily life more effectively.

An online survey conducted by an internal research team on behalf of The Huffington Post polled more than 1,000 American adults in 2013, revealing 84 percent of recently stressed Americans say they worry that their home isn’t clean or organized enough. Manage mornings
