Gierach receives top state award At a recent statewide conference for the Chambers of Commerce Executives Ohio, Libby Gierach, President/CEO of the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce, was awarded the Professional of the Year. She was honored by her colleagues, selected from all the chamber professionals in the state for this prestigious recognition. The presentation of the award was kept a surprise until it was revealed during the annual meeting program at the conference. Gierach attributes receiving the honor to the success of the community and working with the various stakeholders such as elected officials, the school district, organizations and most importantly the businesses. “An individual award such as this can only occur when the

community is working together to provide the best environment for our businesses and residents. I appreciate that the Hilliard Chamber is seen as an integral part of our community’s growth,” Gierach said. “I am proud that the Hilliard community has been recognized through this award.” We are pleased to announce that Gierach also received the Accredited Professional (AP) designation which encourages professional growth and recognizes exemplary achievement of those that manage Ohio’s local chambers of commerce.  The CCEO-AP designation recognizes those among chamber professionals who have achieved high levels of professional competency.

Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce Business Monthly BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Earman and Wood, CPA’s: a family team Earman and Wood, CPA’s moved to Hilliard in August of 2000 with Larry Earman (the dad) and Lisa Wood (the daughter) as partners. The firm employs two people in addition to Larry and Lisa. Larry handles the accounting, auditing and bookkeeping and Lisa handles the income tax matters. That separation of responsibilities is how they are able to work side by side and not get in each other’s way. Larry graduated from The Ohio State University and has over 44 years of experience in providing accounting and income tax services. First he was with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Columbus and San Diego, and for the last 35 years as a partner in a Columbus accounting firm. His experience is in meeting the accounting needs of small businesses. He has worked on a substantial number of real estate and construction companies; retail; wholesale; restaurants; medical, dental and veterinary practices; oil and gas production; not-for-profit agencies; and services to the developmentally disabled. Larry has been an active

part of the Hilliard community for many years. He served on the Hilliard City Schools Board of Education from 1985 through 1991. He served on the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce for 12 years. As a chamber member he was chairman of the Hollyfest Arts and Craft Show for several years. Since 2006, Larry has also served Norwich Township as a trustee. “You don’t last in accounting for 44 tax seasons if you don’t love the job,” says Larry. That love of the job apparently showed as Lisa has followed in her dad’s footsteps. She majored in accounting at Ohio University. Dad couldn’t convince her to go

to OSU. She earned a scholarship to the University of Denver where she received a Master of Taxation. After graduation she was employed by Deloitte and Touche LLP and a smaller accounting firm in Denver for five years. In 1999 she came “home” to work for her dad’s firm and is now a partner. Lisa provides income tax consulting, income tax return preparation, college planning, retirement planning and estate planning. In 2001 Lisa was appointed to the City of Hilliard Board of Tax Appeals. Lisa has also served on the board of directors for the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as the treasurer, and also on the board of directors for Leadership Hilliard. The four people in the firm have worked together for numerous years to provide their clients the quality service they deserve and expect. If you are not satisfied with your current accounting arrangements, give Earman and Wood, CPA’s a call at 850-CPAS (850-2727). You will be glad you did.
