Businesses can save money by participating in the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce’s group rating program for workers’ compensation for the 2013 policy period that begins July 1, 2013. The invitation was delivered by our program’s administrator, CompManagement, Inc. Group rating remains a very viable alternative rating option that enables employers with better-than-average claim
histories to combine claim expenses and rate calculations in order to take advantage of premium savings currently reserved for large employers by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC). By participating in group rating, your organization can enjoy a much lower premium than could be attained
on your own. Historically, groups administered by CompManagement have realized savings between 15 percent and the maximum discount allowed by BWC, which this year stands at 51% after the BWC mandated breakeven factor is applied. Don’t miss your opportunity to continue your workers’ compensa-
tion premium discount for 2013. The deadline to enroll is Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. Enrollment is easy! Look on our website to send in the information online for a free quote. Should you have any questions regarding group rating or to request a quote directly, please contact CompManagement’s Customer Support Unit at (800) 825-6755, option 3.

Chair’s Perspective
Your Chamber’s plan for 2013 The Board of Directors is planning for an aggressive agenda in 2013. My comments here are focusing on four key committees, that by design we hope to provide a coordinated synergy of communication and actions, and therefore develop or improve some of our core programs. I’d like to thank the entire Board of Directors for the commitment to their fellow Chamber members. Although not all mentioned here today, they will play a vital role in helping the individual committee members discussed in this article. Our Business Advocacy Committee is embarking on a series of Focus Groups. These groups will meet in common industry segments to discuss what their businesses need in order to grow and be successful in the Hilliard community and beyond. Doug Davidson, Jacadis LLC, is spearheading this committee and his background includes work with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. This experience combined with his business ownership background provides him some insight in this area. The Committee includes Carrie Stanley Davis, Nationwide Insurance, who’s family agency has been a long-time contributor to the Hilliard business community. Next, the Board has
formed a new committee, focusing solely on Membership. Jill Gerschutz, Tom Baker Credit Union of Ohio, is heading up this committee. We’ve also included Doug Davidson on this committee so that what is discovered in the Business Advocacy Focus Groups can easily be communicated to the Membership Committee. This committee will include Cheryl Bundy, Key Bank. If you have ideas for this membership committee please contact one of these individuals. The goal of the committee is to increase membership by five percent. Our Programming Committee is being headed up by Jill Gerschultz, Credit Union of Ohio; and she is joined with Doug Davidson, Jacadis LLC. Again, we are trying to coordinate committee-to-committee communication from the ideas brought forward or developed within one committee, to make it over to the committee that needs to take the action to make these ideas a reality. So the Programming Committee will easily get ideas from Jill’s Membership Committee, and Doug’s Business Advocacy Committee, as
Jill and Doug are in direct communication as members of these committees. One of the ideas already under discussion is energizing the business after hour’s events, providing more of an entertainment style format to attract members after the long business day. The Marketing Committee, chaired by Don Nixon, The Creative Spot Inc, is going to finalize and implement the new Chamber website in 2013. Don has been reviewing and analyzing the website throughout 2012 and, working with the Chamber staff, is ready to get the site online. The new site will provide much needed functionality to save time and money on office administration tasks; as well as improve our marketing capabilities and presence. Doug Davidson joins Don on this committee to again provide that bridge of ideas coming from Doug’s work on the Business Advocacy and Programming Committee to this Marketing Committee. Again, thanks to my fellow Board of Directors for embarking on this aggressive agenda in 2013. I invite and encourage our membership to contact members of the Board to express your ideas on these activities and programs. It’s your Chamber — make your voice heard!
Hello, we are Annelies and Matthew Condon, the proud owners of the Primrose School of Hilliard West. As working parents of three young boys, we know firsthand that a high-quality preschool and child care program is an essential part of a family. The Primrose School of Hilliard West provides excellent care and education to children age 6 weeks through school age. Our Explorer’s before and after school program and summer camp provides fun and learning for children ages 5 to 12 years. More and more parents are recognizing the importance of the early years to their children’s success in elementary school and beyond. The most active time of brain development occurs before age five. The quality of their early interactions determines how children continue to learn and form relationships, strongly influencing their future. Research confirms that nurturing guidance and attention to every aspect of development in the early years helps a child develop compassion, confidence and a love of learning, in addition to competence and academic skills. These capabilities are easy to take for granted, but can make all the difference in how a child responds to school and life beyond the classroom. Primrose Schools, a family of more than 245 accredited, private preschools nationwide, provides a balanced approach to school
readiness – a well-rounded preparation in basic concepts and acquisition of social skills – that gives children the foundation for a future filled with promise. We invite the community to see our new school and join us for carnival games, a silent auction, food and fun at our Spring Fling on Saturday, June 1, 2013. This event is one of our many Caring & Giving events benefiting charity.
