The summer season continues with awesome events, activities, and fun at the library. This summer’s reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” ends on July 15th. Reading incentives and programs are available for children, teens, and adults. You don’t want to miss it. Join us for a special lunch & learn to discuss what to look for in healthy relationships. Topics will include trust, respect, communication, boundaries, consent and types of abuse. Call Piedmont Hospital Rape Crisis Program to register, 706-774-2731. The presentation is reoccurring and being held on July 20th and August 17th at noon. The library hosts three book clubs whose books cover a variety of genres and allow for a lively discussion and exchange of ideas. Choose a club and explore new books: Pub Fiction, Monday Night, and Brown Bag.
The library offers clubs that attract beginners or experienced enthusiasts. You can choose from these monthly opportunities to participate. These clubs are Doodle Hour, Genealogy, Pinochle, Cosplay, Guitar, Travel Adventure, Chess, Crafting, Coding, Bad Movie, Canasta and Mah-jongg. If you are looking for individual help with your electronic devices, software applications or further assistance after one of our classes, schedule an “A La Cart” appointment with Alex by emailing acooper@gchrl.org or calling 706-447-7661. English as a Second Language classes begin again in September. Email 7022esl@gmail.com to learn more about these free adult classes! Attention, makers! The library offers a Makerspace program for ages 8 and up. We have the Young Makers program (for ages 8-12) and the Makerspace program (for ages 13 and up), where you can make something original and awesome using our maker technology collection. Drop by during our next Makerspace program to see what all we have to offer! For teens with busy schedules, we also have monthly Take & Make kits that teens can pick up at the library to take and make at home. Take & Make kits are only available while supplies last, so plan your trip to the library sooner rather than later if you plan to get one. We offer additional teen programming throughout the year, so be sure to check our website for all of the latest program information. If you’re interested in helping the Young Adult Librarian plan teen programming, be sure to join the Teen Advisory Board. There is no sign-up required for Teen Advisory Board, and you earn volunteer credit for each meeting that you attend!
