EVANSTOWNECENTERPARK SPLASHPADRENOVATION
After a year’s long wait, the Evans Towne Center Park splash pad is set to reopen after renovation on April 1st.
In the fall of 2024, the splash pad was closed as normal on October 1st, and then Hurricane Helene hit the CSRA. The thirteen-year-old splash pad was flooded, all electronics were fried and the entire system was deemed a loss.
As many noticed in June of 2025, the work officially began to replace the 13-year-old system. The replacement of the waterspouts, relocation of the pumping equipment, an increased pad size and new equipment that powers, runs and operates the pad.
“With Evans Towne Center Park continuing to welcome almost 800,000 visitors a year, we knew renovating the splash pad had to be a top priority,” said Community Services Division Director John Luton. “We are excited to reopen this bigger, better version of this beloved feature and look forward to seeing all the families splashing away, enjoying time together!”

Located across from the Circulation Desk at the Evans Library, The Friends of the Columbia County Libraries Bookstore sells children and adult books in paperback and hardback. They also sell DVDs, puzzles, and craft kits Prices range from $1 to $3 The bookstore proceeds fund the Children’s Summer Reading Program, children’s craft workshops, author visits, holiday events, and much more. POETRY CONTEST
Since April is National Poetry Month, the Columbia County Library System is hosting our annual poetry contest This is open to Columbia County library patrons of all ages across all 3 branches. Each age group will receive a prize. Winners’ poems will be published in the next edition of The Current. The winner will be announced at the poetry open mic on April 18th. Contest closes April 16th at noon More details coming soon; keep up with our socials!
The Children’sSummer Reading Program kicks off May 21st and runs until July 30th. This year ’ s theme is Unearth a Story. There will be prehistoric picture shows, movies, storytimes, special events, and, naturally, reading challenges with prizes!
