COLTENE impresses with the HyFlex EDM OGSF file set
Safe, reliable and efficient root canal preparation—that is the primary objective of the HyFlex EDM OGSF file set from international dental specialist COLTENE. The sequence consists of four coordinated nickel–titanium files—Opener, Glider, Shaper and Finisher— which cover the essential treatment steps. To gain insights into the use of the file sequence in practice, COLTENE recently conducted

a Europe-wide survey of dentists, most of whom work in general dentistry.
Fast and easy preparation
According to the survey, 98% of the respondents rated the simplicity of preparation as good or very good, and 83% also rated the speed of preparation with the HyFlex EDM OGSF file set as being faster or significantly faster than with their usual file sequence. Transitioning from one file to another during treatment was reported as efficient by 90% of the dentists.
In addition, 89% of the respondents described becoming familiar with the file sequence as being easy or very easy and praised the minimal time required to master the sequence. The majority of the dentists stated that the application of the standard protocol and the highvfracture resistance of the files support patient safety (96%) and enable predictable results (88%). The cutting performance, flexibility and prebending of the files, which work reliably in highly curved canals too, were also highly rated.
The majority of dentists surveyed said that they plan to continue using the HyFlex EDM OGSF file set in their practices and intend to recommend it to colleagues. Commenting on this positive feedback, Dr Barbara Müller, senior head of endodontics at COLTENE, said: “It’s great to see that our HyFlex EDM OGSF file sequence has been so well received across Europe and that it meets the need for a fast, safe and easy-to-learn application.”
Reliable four-step sequence
The survey results confirm that the simple, easy-to-learn OGSF standard protocol, in which the files achieve the working length in just a few passes, offers an ideal solution for the fast and reliable preparation of both everyday as well as more complex endodontic cases. The four-step sequence optimises treatment procedures, increases safety in everyday practice and ensures predictable results, giving general dentists in particular peace of mind during their work.
Further information, user reports and studies on the HyFlex EDM OGSF file sequence can be found in a booklet on the file set as well as on a dedicated website (coltene.group/hyflex-edm-ogsf). A video tutorial by Dr Eugenio Pedullà, co-developer of the OGSF sequence and associate professor at the University of Catania in Italy, offers further practical insights. In addition, COLTENE offers on-site appointments to showcase the advantages of the sequence live.
Furthermore, COLTENE regularly supports dental practices by providing workshops and continuing education through experienced and practice-oriented tutors. The current programme can be accessed at events.coltene.com. COLTENE’s social media channels provide numerous case studies and discussions on applications in dental practice.
