Color Zine
Lake Oswego High School alum Kamala GhaneaBassiri, Phyllis Chen, and Juliana Sahni started COLOR on February 9, 2018 in hopes of connecting with marginalized students who may feel isolated, ignored, angry, or just tired. Frustrated by the lack of acknowledgment of Black History Month and continuing racism and other issues at their school, they wanted to turn their negative feelings into something positive, so they decided to create a zine where they could organize all of their ideas. The name COLOR was chosen to include not only people of color, but also those on the gender, sexuality, and disability spectrum. As of July 2020, Lake Oswego High School seniors Barbara Chen, Cameron Iizuka, and Serena Lum have brought back the zine. COLOR aims to provide a creative space to celebrate and uplift marginalized communities, write about history not typically learned in school, explore current events and pop culture, and feature honest perspectives from past and current Lakers.
