I ’ve been a friend of Ocean House for years, watching this grand hotel rise again, and now I love to welcome new generations of families to my favorite place! I can’t wait to guide you along your vacation as your mouse-ierge –let’s get creative and adventure around Watch Hill together, making an Ocean of Memories along the way!
There are treats in the lobby every day, and it’s so fun to grab one, sit by the fire and hear stories about the old Ocean House! Did you know that this fireplace is 130 years old? When they rebuilt the hotel, they made sure to put every stone back in the same spot!
I can’t pick which room is my favorite – they all have everything I need to relax after a day of exploring! It’s always fun to meet new friends when guests bring their dogs – and I’m lucky no one brings their cats!

One of my favorite parts of Ocean House is the private beach! It’s the perfect place to relax and explore. There’s so much you can do here – play in the water, build a sandcastle, collect shells and beach stones, and even take surfing lessons! On a really clear day, you can see Block Island and Fisher’s Island along the horizon. Can you spot them?
There are so many places to have memorable meals and tasty treats at the Ocean House! It’s a special treat to get breakfast and lunch while looking at the water. We can also dine outside on the verandah or the seaside terrace, down by the beach at Dune Cottage, or order food in our room and eat on our private balcony. No matter where you go, the Chefs care a lot about making sure everything is fresh and local and taking our taste buds on a delicious journey!
Mortimer gets unlimited ice cream with his special mug, but he’s lost it! Can you help him find it?

The saltwater lap pool is the perfect place for a relaxing swim – great for rainy days or when you need a little break from the sandy beach. Right across from the pool is the spa and yoga studio.
Let’s Play Croquet!
Our Croquet Lawn is a magical gathering space for family and friends to participate in this timeless Rhode Island activity that can be enjoyed at every age and skill level.
The screening room is my favorite place to go on rainy days and watch a movie. The fresh popcorn is all you can eat – but I get full after a few bites!
Fun fact: a movie was filmed at the Ocean House over 110 years ago – before movies had sound! It was called American Aristocracy. What would you name a movie about Ocean House?
Bemelmans Gallery & Madeline
Did you know that the artist Ludwig Bemelmans worked at a hotel restaurant in New York City for over 15 years, and some of the first people he drew were the guests and hotel staff?
After all that practice, he created one of my good friends: Madeline! Maybe being in the Bemelmans Gallery will inspire you as well - Create your own gallery on the next page!
Cruise around Little Narragansett Bay on one of our boats, including the Aphrodite! This boat was built in 1937, making it almost 90 years old. Over that time, she has given rides to many popular people like President Theodore Roosevelt and child star Shirley Temple – this is where she had her 12th birthday party. I wish I was invited!
The lighthouse keeps all the boats in the harbor safe! There was a safety light here way back in 1745, and then a wooden lighthouse was ordered by President Thomas Jefferson in 1806. The lighthouse we see today was built in 1855. The person in charge of the lighthouse is called a “keeper” and they got to live there – my favorite Watch Hill Keeper was Jonathan Nash, because his son George built the Ocean House!
The Flying Horses Carousel in Watch Hill is the oldest continuously running Carousel in the country.
Decorate and name your horse!
Find the words in the puzzle.
Words can go in any direction. Words can share letters as they cross over each other.
Hidden throughout the Ocean House are paintings of sixteen special items to help Mortimer have the best vacation!
Did you complete the scavenger hunt? Color them in as you find them!
