In 1976, Dan and Emma Kigar made their home in a tipi in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. It wasn’t long before some of their friends wanted the same experience, and the adventure called Earthworks Tipis began.

That beginning evolved into Colorado Yurt Company, makers of Colorado Yurts, Earthworks Tipis and Cimarron Tents. Since 2020, John and Kelly Gibson are proud to carry the company legacy into the future.

THE BASICS

Based on the traditional Mongolian ger, our modern yurt takes those nomadic structures and adds engineered strength, durable high-tech fabrics and handcrafted quality. The structural integrity of a yurt is based on compression and tension working together to form a free-standing, clear-span structure. Every Colorado Yurt is an engineered yurt, with our exclusive CORR brackets included as a standard feature.

Ranging in diameter from 16 feet to 30 feet, there is a size perfect for your needs.

•16 foot yurt = 200 square feet

•20 foot yurt = 314 square feet

•24 foot yurt = 452 square feet

•30 foot yurt = 706 square feet

ENGINEERING: Every Colorado Yurt is an engineered yurt. Need extra strength? Get our Big Wind Package or Full Snow & Wind Package.

FABRIC: Heavy-duty vinyl wall fabric is standard on every Colorado Yurt. You choose from 8 different colors.

INSULATION: You will be warmer in winter, cooler in summer with our reflective Eco-foil insulation package.

WINDOWS: Three windows are included with every Colorado Yurt. Upgrade to more windows, add an 8 foot roll-up wall or add glass windows (a choice of two types, three sizes).

DOORS: Your yurt includes one wood door with a plexiglass window. You can add another door, upgrade to French doors or add screen doors.

ROOF: Our Standard Yurt Roof is the DuroLast roof - get a 15-year warranty plus extra strength, longevity and durability.

DOME: A clear dome comes with every yurt. You can upgrade to a tinted dome to reduce UV heat gain, and add a dome lifter for ventilation. Add a net to keep bugs out, an insulation cover for temperature control.

Our new Yurt was installed prior to opening in November as a warming facility while our new building was under construction. Shortly after the installation, winter came in with a vengeance resulting in a record snow year here at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. We had installed the wind and snow load package and everything worked perfectly. The Yurt was a wonderful addition, and we had many employees and guests provide comments on what a beautiful structure it is.

YOU’VE GOT THIS!

Your yurt comes with a full set of instructions and should only take a day or two to set up after your deck is built. Most people set up their own yurts with the help of a group of friends – we’re just a phone call away if you need advice. You can choose to hire a contractor to set up the yurt, or we offer installation services for regional customers.

Destination Platform Tents are the perfect outdoor getaway for those who love to get out in nature but don’t necessarily want to “rough it.” We’ve been “glamping” for over 40 years! Resorts love Destination Tents for keeping travelers comfortable while still being close to nature.

Great for summer camps, ranches, resorts campgrounds and spas. You might like one in your own backyard as a unique studio, vacation rental, office or guest room.

CARING FOR YOUR TIPI

• Pitch it correctly to get the maximum life from your tipi.

• Stretch the cover tightly and stake it to the ground or bolt it to your deck. This reduces wear and tear.

• Pitching instructions come with your tipi and are also available at coloradoyurt.com.

• Keep it clean to control mildew. Dirt and moisture make a tipi susceptible to mildew. Mold and mildew spores at your tipi site (in the soil) can cause your tipi to mildew. Although all our fabrics are mildew retardant, they are not warranted against mildew.

THE DESTINATION PLATFORM TENT

This tent is designed to be pitched on a platform, with integrated side rails to support the sidewall of the tent. The platform adds stability and eliminates the need for side poles and stakes. Platforms are not provided, but construction drawings are available here: http://www.coloradoyurt.com/tents

FEATURES

▪ Natural cotton color for a luminous interior. Forest Green or Desert Tan walls are available.

▪ All tents have front and rear door openings with 12” storm flaps, Velcro-web door fasteners and quick release tieback straps.

▪ Roll-up sidewalls join the end walls at the corners with 2” Velcro and cam buckles. When rolled up, sidewalls stow with quick release tieback straps.

▪ Hardcore reinforcing throughout:

▪ Spur grommets in 2” webbing at the hem and eaves for secure deck attachment.

▪ Tent ridge reinforced with 8” wide chafing strip and tear resistant vinyl.

▪ Corners reinforced with two layers of fabric and hidden vinyl.

▪ Eave ropes and storage bag included.

OPTIONS

▪ Mosquito net walls (tightly woven, flame retardant fiberglass) are sewn into the tent to create a screen room when the canvas walls are rolled up. Durable construction with spur grommets and 2” webbing at the hems. Select mosquito netting for all four sides or just the front and back.

▪ The tent fly is flame retardant Tan vinyl, with welded seam construction (see fabric choices below). The fly forms a canopy over the tent for rain, cooling and UV protection. Includes ropes for tensioning to the side rails. Choose: standard or extended fly. Standard fly covers the tent with a 12” overhang. Extended fly creates an additional 8’ front porch.
