Drive-Through Testing Centers

Drive-through centers have helped South Korea do some of the fastest, most-extensive testing of any country. And while nobody is claiming that South Korea has defeated the outbreak, experts credit the emphasis on testing with reducing case numbers and fatalities. Drive-through clinics are catching on elsewhere, including in the U.S. Washington, New York, Connecticut, and Colorado are the first to adopt them. And it's easy to see why. The clinics simplify the time-consuming process of protecting medical workers from infection. Waiting rooms and testing rooms do not have to be disinfected for every possible case, as the patients remain in their own vehicles. It also reassures nervous patients that fear they are not sick and will only become sick if attempting to test at a center. Colorado opened its own drivethrough test center, but had to be closed early due to the high volume of vehicles. To be tested, you had to bring an order from a health care provider and matching I.D. Testing is now covered by the state government, so proof of insurance and payment is not required. Any uninsured persons hoping to be tested without an order will be directed to an onsite nurse or epidemiologist. Telegraphic interpretation is available for those who are not fluent in English. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment advises the wait times will be long, and there are no re-
strooms provided. In South Korea, you might notice a difference in the drive-through clinics. Safety procedures even extend to your car's air conditioning. You will be advised to hit the recirculation button to avoid infecting the medical personnel doing the testing. The test takes 10 minutes at most. Results are texted to you, usually the next day. And it's free — paid for by the government. One Seoul test center consists of four trailerlike offices with white canopies in front. Doctors in full protective suits and goggles take the driver's temperature with an infrared thermometer and hand out a questionnaire to fill out. If you're
running a fever and, in the doctor's opinion, maybe at risk based on where you've been or whom you've contacted, you're eligible for a test. Only the driver is tested — passengers are not. South Korea has about 8,000 infections. Italy and Iran overtook it this week as the countries with the most cases outside of China. South Korea's new cases have gradually declined since the end of last month. For the first time since Jan. 20, the number of patients released from treatment on Friday, March 13 — 510 — outnumbered the 110 new cases. its outbreak began on Jan. 20, with a daily capacity of 15,000. It has conducted 3,600 tests per million people compared to five per million in the U.S. South Korea's aggressive testing may make it unnecessary to impose the sort of lockdowns to which China and Italy have resorted, although health officials insist that all options remain on the table in dealing with the epidemic. While South Korea has more than just drive-through clinics, including excellent health care and CCTV/credit card tracking. BTS V … ‘Sweet Night’ Night’ Takes Over Charts Itaewon Class OST: “Sweet Night”
O
n March 13, BTS' V released his solo song, "Sweet Night," on iTunes. Within a few hours, it took topped charts in 78 different countries. The song is the first Korean OST to hold the #1 position on US iTunes. "Sweet Night" is an OST in the popular Korean drama, Itaewon Class. It shares the same name as the main character's pub. "Sweet Night" also holds the longest hours as the #1 song on iTunes US Singles at over 48 hours. No other Korean soloist has achieved this to date. Only five other Korean soloists have topped the iTunes chart, including Younha, PSY, and V's fellow bandmates: RM, J-Hope, and Jung-
kook. The popular song, "Gangnam Style," gave Psy the honor of hitting #1 on both US & UK iTunes charts at the same time. Now, "Sweet Night" is the second Korean song to reach the same status. "Gangnam Style," which caused an international phenomenon, topped charts in 86 different countries. Comparatively, "Sweet Night" has only hit 8 countries less. V currently holds the record as the only Korean soloist to simultaneously chart two songs on the top ten of the US iTunes. "Sweet Night" is also the first-ever Korean OST to debut at #1 on WorldWide iTunes and European iTunes chart. It is also popular in South Korea and ranked #1 on the
Melon charts. It seems that BTS and its members will only continue to gain popularity and recognition worldwide. One day after the debut of "Sweet Night," the chief of the World Health Organization called on BTS and others to join the organization's hand-washing campaign "SafeHands" challenge. WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, nominated BTS and three others to, "Take the #SafeHands challenge by sharing their video & calling on at least another 3 people to join us!" Tedros has called on several celebrities, including Microsoft founder Bill Gates and U.S. actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. While BTS has not
responded as of 3/15/2020, it only goes to show the increasing acknowledgment of the influence that Korean artists can have worldwide. On another note, please remember to wash your hands and practice social distancing to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. It may not show many symptoms in you, but can be severe for the older and younger people around you. Please sing "Happy Birthday" twice for the recommended time to wash your hands. In light of recent events, what are our fears? Why do we fear? How does Jesus redeem us in our fear? It’s toilet paper. It’s true. Costco was all out the last time we went. This begs us to ask the question… why toilet paper? Masks and sanitizers make sense. But why our precious TP? One of the reasons that the article states is that panicking people are planning to seclude themselves in their home for their own safety. In stocking up their home (with toilet paper apparently), they feel a sense of safety, since it is under their own control. We saw that this is one of the results of fear this past Sunday, as we looked at Jacob’s fear of his brother. Jacob feared his brother, because Jacob essentially stole his brother’s birthright and blessing. He knew that Esau (his brother) hated him and wanted to kill him. In our passage, we saw that his fear manifested itself in spying, thinking, conserving, and appeasing. These are all ways man tries to stay in control in the midst of fear. The toilet-paper purchasing population is trying to conserve themselves by staying in control in the midst of their fear. What are we truly afraid of? Fear is not a bad thing. It’s ok to fear. However, it is sinful to have ultimate fears. Ultimate fears are the fears we have when we feel like our lives are going to fall apart. We will be in complete need and helplessness if those ultimate fears come true.
Ultimate fears are sinful, because they reveal to us our idolatries. We fear those things, because we idolize those things. We worship those things over God Himself, and that is sin. There should be only one ultimate fear. We
should have the fear of the Lord. He is infinite. We are finite. He is Creator. We are the created. He is Holy. We are sinful. We deserve wrath and condemnation. This instills in us a deep sense of fear. However, just like Genesis 32 for Jacob,
we see the redemption of our fears. We can know that God is with us. We can know that God loves us. We can trust in God’s promises. All of these are true for us in Christ. Jesus is the One who took on the wrath and the condemnation for our sins. His righteousness has become our righteousness so that we can be sons of God. This great God whom we fear is also our heavenly Father who loves us and is with us. By His death and resurrection, He resolves our greatest fear, which is the judgment for our sins. Because our greatest fear has been resolved by way of the cross, we don’t need to be ultimately afraid of earthly things. They are put in their rightful place under the fear of the Lord. Friends, take some time this and remind yourselves of the fear of the Lord. Remember who God is and what we deserve. Remember what Christ has done for you and me in love and grace. And as your greatest fear is relieved, may you live in peace. May you live with appropriate fears. May you live boldly for the sake of Christ. Hope to see you on Sunday for the Lord’s Day Worship. Spring Comes Early
Happy Spring! This week marks the spring (vernal) equinox which is the beginning of the spring season for the northern hemisphere. While spring usually comes around March 21, this year it is blowing in a little early. This year, spring will arrive on March 19 for all time zones in the United States. It will be the earliest arrival of spring since 1896, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. Although Colorado is known for its unpredictable weather, you may notice warmer days and little to no snow. The early arrival has to do with time and subtle shifts in our calendar. Specifically, it depends on if the turn of a century involved a leap year or not. The
year 2000 was a leap year, and now, we are seeing a consequence of that. We
will see more and more “earliest springs on record” over the next few years be-
fore spring once again starts arriving on the 21 of March in the year 2103. No matter the reason, it is officially spring on March 19. Hopefully, we will see the weather warming up during this springtime and weaken any viruses that are lurking around. When it is colder outside, viruses are able to survive longer and are stronger. Although it may warm up, please remember to style yourselves with layers as spring, especially in Colorado, is marked by its quick temperature and weather changes. Your immune system also slows when your body is cold. So, take care to stay warm and hope the early spring will aid even a little in conBy Agnes Park cerns with illness.

Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement
E
arlier this month Harvey Weinstein, a former Hollywood producer, was sentenced 23 years in prison for first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape. Weinstein’s actions and the women who have spoken out have fueled the #MeToo movement that has blown up as women express the pain and spoken up about their personal experiences with sexual abuse. The #MeToo movement started out in 2006. The founder of the movement, Tarana Burke, made a “MeToo” myspace page as an outlet for young women of color and young women in poor communities to be supported. Almost a decade later, “MeToo” would become a staple in Hollywood to speak out about a sexual assault and the abuse many young aspiring actresses have gone through. This would light a global fire of women tagging #MeToo to talk about the global scale of sexual assault. On October 5, 2017, American actress Ashley Judd used the hashtag to reveal; the harassment of Harvey Weinstein through a New York Times article featuring other actresses like Rose McGowan. Just 10 days later, the UK police start investigating the allegations. As time goes on, more and more women have spoken about these allegations. Leading to the months and months of investigations and trials only to be concluded earlier this month. Taking a total of almost 2 years to complete the process many thought was
impossible. After the sentence, many #MeToo movement leaders and prosecutors praised the long sentence of 23 years. Many women have spoken about why they didn’t give up the fight. In court before Mariam Haley, one of Weinstein’s victims and one of the women who testified against him in court said, “I believe that when he attacked me that evening with physical force. With no regard for my cries and protests, it scarred me deeply -mentally and emotionally.”

women to speak out. #MeToo will be a long journey. Some say it’s a way for women to attack men, but at its core, people don’t realize the shame and the courage it takes to speak up. The National Sexual Violence Resource Center reports that 1 in 4 girls will sexually be abused before they turn 18. And even more alarmingly, Rainn.org reports that 13% of women who are raped will attempt suicide. It’s important that an issue that is so common is widely talked about and it’s the people’s duty to make women feel safe talking about it. BIGBANG contract renewal: G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P. and Daesung of popular K-Pop boy group renew contracts with YG Entertainment
P
utting behind the embarrassing scene that BIGBANG’s former member Seung Ri caused, BIGBANG members – G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, and Daesung have all renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment last week. The label made the official announcement on March 11th. For BIGBANG members, since their debut in 2006, this will be their third renewal with YG Entertainment. They renewed their contract with YG twice, in 2011 and 2015. After terrible year in 2019 with so many political scandals and stories about corruption, YG hopes to turn things around in 2020 with BIGBANG’s glorious comeback. According to YG Entertainment, “Going beyond musical influence, BIGBANG has changed the
course of Korean pop culture. YG is more than glad to continue our support for BIGBANG so that they can continue to make K-pop history as a representative group of our label.” BIGBANG plans to begin launching for a comeback this year. After years of hiatus due to the members’ mandatory service in the military in South Korea, the boy band was to appear together at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, in April for its very first public activity in years. However, the annual spring music festival was cancelled and was put off to October due to the Coronavirus infection concerns throughout America.
