THEATRE / DANCE PERFORMANCES Fairview by Jackie Sibblies Drury / Guest Directed by Dr. Ray Black / Studio Theatre March 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 7:30 p.m.; matinee March 2, 3, 2 p.m. The 2019 Pulitzer Prize winning drama, Fairview is a candid examination of race in contemporary American society. In a well-off African American household reminiscent of TV sitcoms, a black family is preparing for grandma’s birthday. A group of white spectators comment on the scene. When the play reverses the positions between spectator and spectacle, however, the audience is invited to face our deep-seated prejudices, examine the white gaze, and play our parts in America’s story. Our Town by Thornton Wilder / Directed by Wesley Longacre / University Theatre April 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 7:30 p.m.; matinees April 21, 28, 2 p.m. This American classic won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938. Exploring timeless questions about the meaning of love, companionship, life and death, Our Town tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. Using metatheatrical devices, Wilder’s play offers up a microcosm of the human life cycle for our reflection. ON THE BRINK Reading Series / Large Acting Lab February 7, and March 6, 7:30 p.m. The ON THE BRINK Reading Series is aimed at amplifying marginalized voices and exposing students to a diverse array of BIPOC, queer, and women artists from around the nation and the world. A collaboration of professional theatre artists, faculty members, current students and CSU alumni, On the Brink explores works representing a variety of underrepresented voices and perspectives. Body/Speak / Co-directed by Susie Garifi and Julia Cooper / University Dance Theatre February 9, 10, 7:30 p.m. Body/Speak features guests from colleges, universities, and dance companies across the region who join CSU Dance for an evening of diverse dance. Spring Dance Concert / University Dance Theatre Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, 7:30 p.m.; matinee Saturday, April 13, 2 p.m. Innovation is alive at CSU dance! This diverse concert features new works by faculty, and student choreographers. Be inspired by the versatility, athleticism, and expressiveness of our performers. Spring Dance Capstone Concert / University Dance Theatre Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, 7:30 p.m.; matinee Saturday, May 4, 2 p.m. The spring capstone dance concert features the creative work of senior dance majors Faith Brock, Tamia Fair, Corey O’Keefe, and Mikayla Zavattaro.
