OF MANITOU SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL American journalist Ernie Pyle stated, “If you want to tell the story of a war, tell the story of one soldier.” Using this concept, we tell the story of our school by telling the story of just one day out of the whole year. We tell our story of our bus rides, our art classes, and our laughter. Our day is just like any other day. Every day a little different but every day a lot the same. At the heart of our day are the people we touch; the heart of a Mustang on an ordinary, extraordinary day. The day is February 9th, and this is our story -
EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM The first students arrive on the bus. As underclassmen ride the buses, upperclassmen with licenses file into the parking lot, some coming in early for make up tests and to meet with teachers, others barely making the bell.

BIOLOGY BOOKS AP Biology, taught by Ben Mack, made their way down to Jives Coffeehouse during third block for a book talk. Teachers at Manitou utilize tools and places outside of the typical classroom setting to make their classes special.
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK Principal Glenn Hard shows a perspective student’s family around the school.

STATE COMPETITORS The Swim and Dive team competed in the finals round at the State Competition. Sydney Dolloff-Holt (11), Kaitlyn Cashdollar (11), and Coco Stevens (10) were the only swimmers to make it back in their events the second day, but many others qualified and competed the first day, including a record number of freshmen. Freshmen who qualified for State in an individual event or relay were Avrie Tomsik, Audrey Spiecker Sofija Cirko, Bella Kuzbek, and Dana Gutierrez.

WRESTLING INTO REGIONALS The wrestling team loads onto the bus for their trip to Pueblo Central High School for the regional meet. Byrd McCarley (11) and Nick Weimer (12) placed at leagues today.

KICK OFF CLASS First block can sometimes be a struggle, with students still waking up, but MSHS students still manage to make first block a lively place.
SOURCES OF STRENGTH Cole Sienknecht (12), Caileen Sienknecht (11), and Grayson Bodor (10) gather among others for a Sources of Strength meeting during advisory. Sources of Strength is a nation-wide group that encourages students to help others who may be struggling.

FRIENDLY COMPETITION Seniors Jon Gerdes and Haydn French match off in a battle of wits during their fourth block class. The chess table was donated by the wood shop program. Students often play a game or two to take a break from studying.

OH THE STORIES Grace Olson (9), Caleb Edwards (11) and Mady Caywood (9) all tell stories across the tables as they eat their lunches. Students often sit in the booths with their friends telling stories, laughing and enjoying time with each other before classes begin again. LUNCH BUNCH Jack Fournier (9) defends as a player prepares to throw the ball to a teammate. Every day during lunch, a group of freshmen play football and enjoy the outdoors. This is just one of the ways students stay active.
AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE Students wrap up the day with fourth block gym class. Mantiou prides itself on the healthy activities of its students and gym class is no exception. As the day comes to an end, students will pile into the commons and eventually the parking lot where they will ride out in cars and buses.
