President | 2015-2016 needs! This just proves to show all the hard work and relationship building Eddie Ainsworth, PGA that Executive Director, Eddie Ainsworth and his counterpart at the Colorado Golf Association, Ed Mate have been forging for years. More information will Executive Director be provided on our new partnership and this Junior Golf collaboration in the months to follow.

Board of Directors Andy Benson, PGA Colorado Section Vice-President, Ty Thompson, announced that Colorado 2014-2016 PGA REACH, in partnership with the Military Jeff Carlson, PGA Warriors Support Foundation, we will be giving away 2014-2016 a home which will be customized for the needs of Sam Chapman, PGA one of our Wounded Warriors at no charge to their 2014-2016 family.

A Fall Meeting For the Ages!

What an honor it is for me to serve as your Executive Director!

This past Monday was a very exciting day in the history of the Colorado Section as our President Leslie Core-Drevecky signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Colorado Golf Association to combine our two Association’s efforts to promote one unified Junior Golf Program. It was a very proud moment indeed as we announced our partnership to collaborate in the development of future golfers, work together to provide the finest Junior Golf Tour in the state, and create a Junior Golf Website that will allow both parents and juniors Eddie Ainsworth, PGA to navigate through every stage Executive Director of junior golf. For an individual that bleeds Air Force Blue, it was tremendous to hear our Vice President Ty Thompson announce that at next year’s Colorado PGA REACH Invitational that we will be partnering with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to give away a home to one of our Wounded Warriors. The positive impact that Colorado PGA REACH has on the lives

of others continues to grow, and Ty was spot on when he stated that our Colorado PGA Members are the underlying foundation that makes all these things happen. It is incredible what all of you are accomplishing through the game of golf!

These two announcements on their own would have made for a great meeting, but for me the highlight was to hear the words of wisdom from our Colorado PGA Golf Professional of the Century, Mr. Vic Kline. I could have listened to Vic for hours! Look for the entire interview with Vic to be posted our Section’s Website in the coming weeks. It will be something you definitely will want to watch if you were unable to attend the meeting and something you will want to watch again if you did.

Closing out the morning was Ian James from Retail Tribe. This was Ian’s second visit to the Colorado Section and he did not fail to deliver new ways for increasing revenue at your facilities and ways to enhance member retention at your club.

As we head into our winter season please let me encourage all of you as I did during the meeting to remember that we are only useful when we stretch ourselves. We must continue to grow and measure what we are currently doing against what we are capable of doing.

We must measure ourselves against ourselves, not focusing on the past as, Yesterday Ended Last Night! Stretching requires us to change and growth stops when you lose tension

If you cannot attend either one of these programs, then let me ask you what are you doing to separate yourself from others? What do you have on your calendar this winter to stretch yourself? What professional development book are you planning on reading? What is your plan to improve? Who are you meeting with as a mentor to help you understand what you are truly capable of accomplishing?

hose in attendance at the 2015 Colorado PGA Fall Membership meeting witnessed the announcement and signing of a groundbreaking agreement between the Colorado Section of the PGA and the Colorado Golf Association in the arena of Junior Golf. CPGA President, Leslie Core-Drevecky, PGA and CGA President Phil Lane inked a Memorandum of Agreement in front of 300 PGA Members and dignitaries making official, the alignment of two long time partners in the interest of junior golf development in Colorado. Following more than a year of in-depth discussions, the CPGA and the CGA have agreed to collaborate in the best interest of the golf industry in Colorado and will be operating joint junior developmental series and tour events in 2016.

This agreement harkens back to the original founding of the Colorado Junior Golf Association in 1984, when the CJGA was intended to be a jointly operated, but separate organization from either the CGA or the CPGA. Over time, the CJGA was slowly absorbed into the operational oversight of the CGA. 2016 will see a return to the initial intent of the founding of the CJGA – the collaboration of the two most influential governing bodies for golf in Colorado aligned behind the growth and support of junior golf in Colorado.

Not only will the associations collaborate on this new playing front, they will continue to collaborate on the core programs embraced by each association to include Golf in Schools, the Solich Leadership Academy, PGA Junior League, Drive Chip & Put Championship and many more. This collaboration will include a re-branding of a yet-to-be named association complete with a new logo and new website. Information to be included in the website will consist of PGA Member and facility programs, instructional opportunities, in school and after school programming, playing opportunities, local

events, and resources for players and parents alike.

The website will be an all-encompassing clearinghouse for junior golf information in Colorado, completely focused on the experience of the consumer for ease of access to information.

This new way forward will incorporate the developmental playing path that was pioneered by the Colorado PGA in 2014 through the CPGA Junior Tour and capitalize on the competitive junior championship golf embraced by the CGA. The events will be targeted and aligned as follows: Junior Tour Target: College-bound/college-hopeful junior golfer Divisions: 8.1 USGA handicap index or lower Events: 19 Events

Interactive Player Development Workshop Coming to Fossil Trace Golf Club Master Skills to Grow Your Value as a PGA Professional

T

he Colorado PGA will host a “first of its kind” Player Development workshop on Wednesday and Thursday, November 18-19, 2015 at Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden, Colorado. The two day workshop is designed to enhance a PGA Professional’s understanding of structured player development programming which can address any consumer’s needs and be flexible enough to meet the demands of any facility.

The workshop will feature PGA of America Director of Golf Program Development, Ted D. Eleftheriou as the lead instructor. Ted is a PGA Professional whose career started as an instructor in Southern California before moving on to become the Eastern Regional Director with the Nike Golf Learning Centers. In 2004 Ted began focusing his attention on business motivation and consulting services. In 2014 he was hired by the PGA of America as the Director of Golf Program Development and remains in that role today.

Two Teams Fire Impressive 15Under-Par to Tie for Fall Meeting Victory T

he key to winning the 2015 Colorado PGA Fall Meeting was evidently not really having a team at all. Both teams who fired an impressive 15-under-par 57 were teams that were formed in the last few days and hours prior to the event. Rob Grall and Perry Holmes, an Assistant Professional and the Director of Instruction at Colorado National Golf Club partnered with Jack Allen, Apprentice Professional at Heritage Eagle Bend over the weekend to compete their team. Larry Collins, PGA Director of Golf at Omni Interlocken Resort and Dave Troyer, PGA Director of Golf at CommonGround Golf Course picked up Chris Swinhart, PGA Head Professional at Thorncreek Golf Course at the last minute after their partner came down ill the morning of the event.

The team of Collins, Troyer and Swinhart tied together an impressive string of eleven straight 3’s beginning on the par-4 ninth hole, stretching the entire back nine and concluding with a birdie on the par-4 first hole.

Grall, Holmes and Allen had their own storylines as

well as the trio played the front nine in an impressive 10-under-par, including 8 birdies and one eagle.

In second place was a team comprised solely of members from The Pinery Country Club; Travis Morton, PGA Head Professional, Ryan Wrobolewski, PGA Assistant Professional and Dane Reese, Apprentice Professional combined to fire a 14-under-par 58. Right behind them, finishing tied for fourth place were two teams; Brad Keating and Ed Kuhalowicz from Springs Ranch partnered with Beau Smith, PGA Assistant Professional from Colorado Springs Country Club and the team of Brian Lindstrom, PGA Instructor at Highland Meadows Golf Course, Chad Poirot, PGA Head Professional from Heron Lakes Golf Course, and Curtis Starkey, PGA Head Professional from Douglas Community Club.
