Community members in Adams County have been voicing questions and concerns over a proposed oil and gas drill site in the Wadley Farms neighborhood, but the wait for answers will have to continue. According to Jim Siedlecki, director of communications for Adams County, there are 1,001 active wells in the county. Out of those, he said the specific set of concerns surrounding Wadley Farms is a first. “Wadley Farms is a unique situation within the county,” Siedlecki Todd Barnes, said. communications director The only for the City of Thornton other well pad locations that are in proximity to residential housing, similar to Wadley Farms, would be two sites near the Todd Creek Farms subdivision in Brighton, according to Siedlecki. “It’s a tricky situation,” said Todd Barnes, communications director for the city of Thornton. “The county is in charge of Wadley Farms, but the city borders it on all four sides. But, really, the state has control over oil and gas.” At the Nov. 17 Thornton City Council meeting, residents asked for a delay of activity in the proposed Synergy Corp. development in Wadley Farms in the form of a five-year moratorium. The development proposal calls for hydraulic fracturing, known as “fracking.” “The city will get legal advice about what can be done,” Barnes said. “The council is aware that residents are concerned.”
