As a young man living in rural Nebraska, Jirkovsky thought he knew everyone from his hometown of Milligan and the neighboring town of Tobias. But one day when a car full of teenagers pulled up to the filling station where he worked, Jirkovsky found out there was one young woman who was not on his radar. “I asked my friend, Frankie, ‘Who is she?’ I thought I knew everyone in Tobias,” Jirkovsky says. It’s now up to voters whether to approve a $350 million bond request that district officials say will help Adams 12 Five Star Schools deal with aging infrastructure and overcrowding.
