Jefferson County District Attorney Pete Weir announced May 24 more defendants have been charged in the March 22 vehicular homicide of 33-year-old single mother Jessica Holman. Patrick According to a news release from Weir’s office, Engle charges have been filed against a second man and two women, in addition to charges already filed against the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle, 19-year-old Ignacio Paul Daigle. Daigle is in Jefferson County jail on $500,000 Ignacio bond and is scheduled Daigle for a preliminary hearing June 10. Patrick Engle, 29, is alleged to have been one of the two men in the stolen truck that struck and killed Holman after the driver crossed over the median, apparently intentionally, near WadTiffanie sworth Parkway and 94th Daigle Avenue into oncoming traffic. Engle was charged with 13 counts, including vehicular eluding resulting in death. Also charged were Tiffanie Renae Daigle, 38, and Tina Louise Daigle, 57, who were arrested April 22. The respective Tina Daigle mother and grandmother of Ignacio Daigle were charged with accessory to leaving the scene of an accident with death after they allegedly lied to police about the whereabouts of the suspect after he fled the scene of the incident on foot March 22. Both Tiffanie and Tina Daigle were home with other family members when police found and arrested Daigle March 11 at his grandmother’s house in the 8900 block of Hastings Way, less than four miles from the scene of the accident. Along with the third-degree felony count of vehicular eluding causing death, Engle was also charged with additional third-degree felony counts of aggravated motor vehicle theft, as well as charges of theft, possession of burglary tools and seven counts of habitual criminal activity.

Chickens and bees, please Northglenn approves backyard chickens and bees after strong resident interest By Jeremy Johnson jjohnson@coloradocommunitymedia.com Northglenn “homesteader” Karen Garcia said newly approved city ordinances will help complete her vision of a sustainable and peaceful life for her family living in a city often seen as a cross between an urban area and a tight-knit community with a small-town feel. Northglenn on May 9 joined Denver and many other surrounding cities when city council approved a final reading of ordinances approving backyard chickens and bees. The city started officially taking applications May 24. And for Garcia, it means so much more than free eggs and honey. “We are living in very unsettled times politically, socially, financially and even spiritually. I think people are looking for a more peaceful, backto-basics way of living,” she said. “That is what homesteading is all about. We have to be out in the world everyday. But being able to come home to an environment that we created for our families that gives us peace of mind is huge.” Ordinance continues on Page 3
