Flag-raising ceremony takes place on campus

By Christy Steadman csteadman@coloradocommunitymedia.com Roughly 60 Army and Air Force ROTC cadets performed a flag raising ceremony to honor veterans Nov. 11 on the steps of Guggenheim Hall at the school’s campus in Golden. This was the seventh year the Colorado School of Mines’ Department of Military Science put on a flag-raising ceremony. Although snowy weather deterred a large spectator turnout this year, all veterans and anybody of the community who wants to thank a veteran is welcome to attend future

Veteran’s Day flag-raising ceremonies, said Frances Aguilar, the school’s ROTC University Liaison. Since 1911, when military instruction began at the School of Mines, veteran alumni has participated in every major conflict the U.S. has been involved in, Aguilar said. “Because of the rich military history among our alumni and community, it’s important to honor them,” Aguilar said.
