Wheat Ridge police and heroes honored Staff Report More than 40 police officers, staff members and community partners were recognized at the Wheat Ridge Police Department’s annual awards ceremony on May 17 for outstanding service to WRPD and the Wheat Ridge community. “This police department embodies perseverance, hard work and a commitment to excellence,” Chief Dan Brennan said during the event. “Today is an op-
portunity to reflect on our accomplishments and appreciate a job well done.” Among the ceremony’s highlights were the stories of two officers, Officer Andrew Carman and Cpl. Tyson Shaul, each of whom were credited with saving a life. • Carman received a Medal of Commendation for saving a woman’s life on March 29, after responding to a call and finding a woman who had punched a window, nearly unconscious due to

Police continue to search for the fourth suspect in a home invasion in Golden, during which a middle school teacher was severely injured. Caleb Williams, 21, and Julia Katharine Johnson, 19, are in custody and Jones have been charged in connection with the May 16 home invasion. A 17-year-old male, who has not yet been charged as an adult, was taken into custody, and is being held at a juvenile detention center. Police say there is one suspect still at large: Cody Aaron Jones, 20, who also has an active nationwide warrant for his arrest on another case. Golden police Capt. Joe Harvey said. Jones is on probation for second-degree burglary charges, obstructing a peace officer and theft. “We are actively engaged in locating him,” Harvey said. On the evening of May 16, Jesse Swift, an engineering teacher at Bell Middle School, was stabbed repeatedly as he fought off the intruders in his Golden home, where his two young children

Paramedics and doctors involved in the case credit Carman’s actions with saving her life. • Shaul received a Medal of Commendation for performing CPR on an unresponsive woman without a heartbeat.
