Arc Thrift coming to Westminster Plans call for store to open in former Unique location By Clarke Reader creader@coloradocommunitymedia.com Westminster residents looking for a thrifty shopping experience and a place to donate items they no longer need will have a new hot spot this fall. Arc Thrift Stores is in the process of getting its special use permit to take the ownership of space at 8657 Sheridan

Blvd., in the former location of Unique Thrift. “We are so excited to be in Westminster,” said Lloyd Lewis, president and CEO of Arc Thrift. “We love Westminster and the generosity of the community, and we look forward to providing shoppers with a unique and one-of-a-kind thrift experience.” According to information provided by Maggie Scivicque, with Arc Thrift, the company is moving through the special use permit process, and said all signs look positive for approval. “Arc opening here would be a great

benefit for the city,” said Jodie Carroll, public information specialist with the city. “It would help to provide an economic and diverse shopping experience for our residents.” Arc’s mission maintains a dedication to “creating and funding programs that serve those individuals living with intellectual/developmental disabilities, with complex and evolving needs.” “The needs of people with disabilities are almost endless. We have advocates to work with people, but we need more,” Lewis said. “About 80 percent of people with developmental disabilities are un-

employed.” To provide the services for their everincreasing number of clients, it’s key to work with other organizations. Arc works with national organizations like Volunteers of America and local groups like the Arvada Center, Arvada Community Food Bank and the city of Lakewood. Their projects range from community-based efforts, like the Arvada Community Food Bank providing clothing vouchers for Arc clients applying to jobs, to national efforts like their vehicle donation program.

A Westy Fest weekend Since 1990, the Westminster Faire, now called Westy Fest, has entertained and educated residents of Westminster and surrounding communities. With the help of many volunteers and local businesses the Westy Fest has evolved into one of the largest special events in Westminster with more than 10,000 people in attendance each year. This year’s event was held at City Park in Westminster on Aug. 8 under blue skies.
