Construction begins on Thornton-area school 27J District to add third high school using bond measure money Staff report School District 27J Superintendent Chris Fiedler said all along the bond measure first put forward in 2014 — but not approved until 2015 — was about building more classrooms. Shovels in hand, Fiedler was joined by construction crews, Thornton officials including Mayor Heidi Williams and a group of future high-schoolers at a groundbreaking ceremony July 21 for what is being called, for now, High School #3. Fiedler said the only other two traditional high schools in the district are overcrowded. They went to split schedules last year to accommodate the influx of students — the result of growing north and east metro populations. “We’re really late,” he said. “This probably should have happened two or three years ago, in terms of getting this started. We finally got the bond issue passed during the last go-round. “The start of construction (the new high
