Cul de Sac, the name of Rothman’s company, is asking for the city to pay $3.2 million for the necessary infrastructure and sell the land for $1, which will act as collateral to nance the project. However, Rothman agreed to reimburse the city for the value of the land if the project is sold in the future. Rothman said that if he had to pay for the $3.2 million, he would be in debt for 10 to 15 years.
“It really needs to be up to the city if they want someone to refurbish the Historic Grain Elevator,” he said. His project will also partner with the astronomy department at the University of Colorado. He said he wants to create a public telescope to see the night sky.
Rothman said there is interest from the college for graduate students to teach kids about astronomy.
