As is usually the case with championships, Holy Family’s defense told the tale. e Tigers forced 16 turnovers and scored 21 points as a result. By comparison, Holy Family turned the ball over just ve times.
“All year long, it’s been defense for us,” said Rocco Bridges, who nished the game with nine points. “ at’s what motivates our team to work hard at the end of the day.” at wasn’t the only thing that worked for the Tigers.
“Transition worked for us today,” Tafoya said. “We had to beat them ease the transition of the younger players on o ense by eating up innings and keeping us in ballgames until we get settled.”
Stargate School

Skyview High School
Baseball e Gladiators scored seven runs in the rst inning, then had to hang on for the win. drove in two. Wide eld’s Kolton Dombrowski nished with four RBIs. Brenden Duggan and Paul Mitchell had a base hit and two RBIs.
Skyview dropped its rst two games of the young season.
Greeley West scored a run in the rst inning and beat the Wolverines 1-0 in ornton March 10. Alejandro Verdugo was GWHS’ starting pitcher. He struck out four in three innings of work. Jacob Flores had two hits. So did David Lovato. Jeremiah During got credit for the Spartans’ RBI.

Track and field
BERTHOUD -- Skyview’s Aissata Kantara took third in the girls triple jump at the Max Marr Invitational at Berthoud High School March 10. her top height was 33 feet 9 inches. So a Cabrera was sixth in the shot put at 28-8.
On the boys side, Cuauhtemoc Campos was fourth nin the 100-meter hurdles (16.66 seconds) and sesventhk in the 300-meter hurdles (44.95 seconds).
Riverdale Ridge High School
Boys volleyball the Tigers’ lead to 46-44 with a halfminute left. Julie Hodell and Essynce Contreraz combined to make three of four free throws in the last 30 seconds of the game to give the Tigers the win.
Niwot downed Riverdale Ridge 25-9, 25-17, 23-25, 25-11 in ornton March 7.
Elijah Song led the Ravens with six kills. Jaiden Hughes also had six kills., Cooper Schank added four. No stats were available for Niwot.

“I don’t think the kids we have need a lot of extra motivation,” Olson said. “ e softball players have had to deal with Holy Family. No extra motivation needed. ey’ll put in the work again. Hopefully, we can make another run next year.”

We played one big, and Fiona isn’t a post player. She’s going to play guard in college. We played ve guards. at was a challenge to play anybody we want playing small down the oor. ey were fast. ey were big. But when we kicked things out, good things happened.”
“We wanted to wear them down,” Villecco said. “Our guys imposed their will in the second half. We knew they were good defensively and that scoring was going to be hard.”
Holy Family, which nished fourth in its conference and with a record of 17-11 overall, didn’t care for its playo seed. But the collective attitude was one of a chip on the shoulder.
“It (the seeding) was a little alarming,” Tafoya said. “But we used that as motivation.”
“Coming into this tournament as the underdog didn’t phase us at all,” Bridges said. “We just kept working hard. It’s not a surprise. We are battle-tested. We knew we were ready for this tournament.”
Bryan Gutierrez had two hits and drove in three of Skyview’s runs. Vincent Lopez Jr. had a base hit and
