Lakewood mom takes to social media for #Here4thekids movement

Lakewood mom Wolf Terry posted a map of her neighborhood, which included 12 gun stores in the vicinity of her house. During the video post, she also pointed out how close one store is to the local elementary school.

Terry used the video on TikTok and Instagram to promote the movement #Here4thekids and the desire to see the ban of guns, especially assault ri es, in the state of Colorado.

e weather is nally warm, and the beauty of the state is on display. Instead of leaving Mom hanging after a heavy Mother’s Day Brunch, consider hiking a trail in or around Je erson County.

ere are 261 trails cross-crossing the county as a part of the Je erson County Open Spaces system, according to the JCOS website. A total of 262 miles of trails, many of which connect to longer regional trail systems outside of the county. Some are easily paved jaunts along the county’s many waterways and parks. Others require good shoes and some minor pieces of gear. e trails Je co has to o er are as diverse as a box of Mother’s Day chocolates. You can’t just open the box and start eating. at may lead to a bite into unsavory candy. Picking a trail is the same. It’s not wise to just pull up to a trail and start walking. You may end up in a 26-mile hiking-only space that is unpaved. Fortunately, the JCOS o ers resources to help the public scout a trail before they embark. It’s easy and can be done at the brunch table. e website has an interactive chart that allows users to isolate trails for speci c information. Find out how long the trail is, its di culty level, and its usage (hiking only, or friendly to horses and motor vehicles).

Here4thekids is a grassroots movement by mothers to end gun violence in Colorado schools. e group will come together in a “sitin” style protest June 5 to urge Gov. Jared Polis to ban and buy back guns in Colorado. Terry says her video was one of many calls to action that she has made for moms in the area. Her speci c target: white moms.

Here4thekis is led by Black women: Tina Strawn, Saira Rao and Myisha Hill. Strawn released a video where she states, “Our ancestors and the Black leaders of the Civil Rights Movement gave us the blueprint.” She goes on to tell
