Our ‘Styrofoam Corral’ Closes Forever on Aug. 31st

currently occupied by the Corral for other purposes. Our contract of sale requires us to close and remove it by August 31st.

This charming brick ranch is at 2670 Kearney Street in the sought-after Park Hill neighborhood, minutes from City Park, the Denver Zoo, and the Denver Museum of Natural History. Downtown Denver is a 15-minute drive away. The home is on a double lot with extensive flower and vegetable gardens. Both the bathroom and kitchen have been updated, the latter with new granite countertops and a Bosch dishwasher. New double-pane Anderson windows are throughout the house. Inside, one can find original hardwood floors across the main level. The main sewer line was replaced in 2009. The other kitchen appliances and the A/C unit are about five years old. Outdoor amenities include a newer storage shed, a children's play structure with swings and a slide (removed if you don't want it), and a large concrete patio. There's an attached two-car garage (unusual for this 1946 home) and a non-conforming third bedroom in the basement. Perfectly situated on a tranquil, wide street, the house is just a block from McAuliffe International Middle School. A new roof was installed two weeks ago. Listing agent Greg Kraft will hold an open house on Saturday, August 12th from 11 to 1. Take a narrated video tour, including drone footage, at www.ParkHillHome.site, then call Greg at 720-353-1922 for a private showing.

For over a decade and a half, Golden Real Estate has hosted a “Styrofoam Corral” behind its former location at 17695 S. Golden Road. Perhaps you or someone you know brought some of the 36,000 cubic yards of Expanded Polystyrene (its real name) that we have kept out of landfills.

Marv Kay Stadium was under construction from 2014-15, and hosted its rst football games in fall 2015, Hansburg said. Now, this nal two-phase project is underway. is current phase, which cost about $2 million, will add seating and standing room for about 500 people, Hansburg estimated.

Mines Athletics is fundraising for the project’s second phase, which will include a concession building with a viewing deck, a food truck plaza and a barbecue area. e second phase could cost about $2.5 million, and will take about a year to design and build once funding is secured.

Carolyn Dennee, assistant director of athletics-internal operations, said Mines got the rst sketch for the McKee West End Zone project almost exactly a year ago, and the athletics sta is looking forward to seeing Phase 2 come to fruition.

She and Hansburg believed the new seating and forthcoming amenities would improve the gameday experience.

For those fans who frequented the children’s area and other activities in the west endzone, this will provide better views and more amenities, Dennee said. Plus, fans and children can still enjoy all the usual favorites in the eld-level section of the west end zone.

“Before this, everything was eld level,” she said. “ e old end zone was great as a pilot project. … With the success of our programs, it elevated the need for something like this.” e beer garden will be open to everyone, but those 21 and older will need a wristband to drink.

For beer lovers, Dennee said Mines will sell New Terrain and Coors products in the west end zone this season. She’s considering setting up a temporary building for beer sales along the walkway; and if that doesn’t work, Mines will stick with its usual tent and coolers.

She and Hansburg were excited to see how everything looks once Phase 1 is complete and how things shape up for Phase 2. Hansburg said anyone interested in donating toward Phase 2 can do so via the Colorado School of Mines Foundation and indicate that it’s for the McKee West End Zone Project.

“We’re excited to see everybody (at Marv Kay Stadium) on opening day,” Hansburg said of the Aug. 31 game. “It’s going to be fun.”

Colorado School of Mines has started a two-phase improvement project in Marv Kay Stadium’s west end zone. The first phase, which is scheduled to be completed by the Aug. 31 home football game, will include additional seating, a beer garden and patio area, and an ADA-accessible walkway from the south entrance to the main course on the stadium’s north side. The second phase, which is included in the graphics, will include a concession building, food truck plaza, and a barbecue area.
