Investigators identi ed a suspect vehicle in the case, which was later determined to be Behme’s. ey also believe Behme instigated two other incidents recently in Arvada and Parker.

“He was acting in self-defense, but not against (the victims),”

Behme’s defense attorney stated during the June 16 hearing. “ … It wasn’t intended to even involve the individuals in this case.”

Behme also has an extensive criminal history, the prosecutor noted, as he’s failed to appear in Broom eld, Adams and Denver counties on separate drug-related cases.

His defense attorney said Behme struggles with his mental and physical health, as he su ers from posttraumatic stress disorder, depression and severe headaches. He’s also become addicted to fentanyl, his attorney added.

Behme’s a lifelong Lakewood resident, and has family members locally who want to take him to rehabilitation, the attorney continued. us, the defense hoped the judge would set a $5,000 bond, so Behme could seek professional help for his mental and physical ailments between his court appearances.

The investigation

According to the arrest a davit, after the May 23 incident, investigators looked at nearby surveillance cameras and identi ed a suspect vehicle. ey began searching for a black Audi A6 sedan bearing a Pennsylvania license plate, which was later determined to be either stolen or falsi ed.

In investigating the vehicle’s history, JCSO found other cases where the Audi A6 was listed.
