mally known as Mesa Verde) located at 9700 West 51st Place on the border of Arvada and Wheat Ridge. No injuries were reported, and no other units were damaged in the fire. One suspect — 34-year-old Michael Cunningham — was arrested and is

facing felony arson, menacing and attempted murder charges. Wheat Ridge Police Department Public Information Officer Joanna Small said Cunningham set the fire as part of a suicide attempt. In the morning of July 18, Cunningham — a resident of The Iris — went to the building’s leasing office and told the employees there he planned to kill himself. Taste of Arvada — Arvada’s annual culinary showcase put on by the Arvada Chamber of Commerce — sold out for the second consecutive year after going on hiatus for 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 1,500 people came to the Apex Center on July 21 to sample the best of Arvada’s local food scene. Sixty vendors participated in this year’s events, ranging from mainstays like the Arvada Tavern to newcomers including Stone Cellar Bistro and Marmalade Lounge and Boutique. 50 volunteers helped the event run smoothly. “(I hope people get) a sense of community and being really proud of living here and visiting here and getting to experience

Republican Colorado House District 27 Candidate Christina Carlino submitted her intent to withdraw from the race on July 20, leaving a ballot vacancy the Colorado GOP hopes to fill by the end of the month. Carlino said she withdrew from the race “due to unforeseen family issues.” Colorado HD27, recently redrawn due to statewide redistricting, encompasses parts of western Arvada and Golden including the Leyden and Candelas neighborhoods.
