One race remained close in the Douglas County School Board election in the early morning hours of Nov. 6, while two other candidates held strong leads over their opponents and were on their way to securing seats on the seven-member board. As of results posted by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office at 4 a.m. the morning after Election Day, District A candidate Susan Meek led Andy Jones 51.1% to 48.9%, with 80,339 votes counted. “There’s been a great turnout and it’s probably too early for me to comment on the results,” Meek said shortly after 9:30 p.m. Nov. 5, holding a 2-percentage point lead. “It’s somewhat close.” She was remaining “cautiously optimistic.” Regardless of the election’s outcome, she was impressed with the community support and the desire to move the district in a positive direction that she saw throughout her campaign, she said.
