City of Lone Tree officials announced that they expect at least a $6.4 million loss in tax revenue due to the statewide shutdown caused by COVID-19, about 9% of what it had initially predicted for total revenue in 2020. The city has furloughed part-time staff at the Lone Tree Arts Center and implemented a hiring freeze on new positions for the city in an effort to remedy the revenue loss. The city had planned to hire for several new positions in 2020 and spend more money on its police department this year, according to the 2020 adopted budget. Lone Tree had been preparing for possible budget impacts of COVID-19 since the first week of March, said Deputy City Manager Kristin Baumgartner in the April 7 city council meeting.
