Crunching the numbers on city’s future How much housing will Littleton need in 20 years? BY DAVID GILBERT DGILBERT@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Imagine Littleton with a population of 74,000 people. That’s one possible scenario from draft reports being used by city council to guide the creation of a new citywide comprehensive plan and transportation master plan. Council, committed to the goal of finalizing the plans by October, reviewed drafts of a set of reports on the city’s current condition at the March 12 study session — part of its “Envision Littleton” project. The 74,000 population figure is the high end of a range of possibilities extrapolated from current trends, according to the reports. It is the estimated population in 2040 if the city maintains the roughly 1.9 percent annual growth rate it has seen since 2010. The city’s current population is roughly 48,000, up from a little more than 40,000 in 2000. SEE ENVISION, P7
