U.S. Energy secretary to NREL employees: ‘unleash all your energies, talents’ at Golden visit
Wright touts public-private partnerships for AI data centers
BY CORINNE WESTEMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
With wide-scale layo s, budget cuts and more, the past three months haven’t been easy for federal government employees and contractors.
However, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright looked to provide some encouragement April 3 as he visited the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Golden campus.
In addressing NREL’s 4,000 employees — whether in Golden, at another campus or in the eld — Wright told them how much he enjoyed his visit, saying, “Not all my days have been as awesome as today.”
Wright, who’s from the Denver area, has a background in oil and natural gas as well as solar, geothermal and nuclear energy. He was con rmed by the U.S. Senate on Feb. 3 and sworn in later that day.
Wright told NREL employees how they’re doing critical work, saying he wants to help them however he can so that NREL and other U.S. Department of Energy employees can “unleash all of your energies and talents” and “focus on science and technology, and not on bureaucracy.”
To that end, he said he signed secretarial orders to ensure work could get done faster and cheaper.
As an example, Wright and NREL Director Martin Keller explained how, after Wright assumed o ce, Keller asked Wright to help accelerate construction of the Golden campus’ Energy Materials and Processing at Scale, or EMAPS, facility. NREL broke ground on it last year and it’s expected to be completed in 2027.
As Keller and other NREL o cials later explained, Wright did help accelerate the project by reducing permit processing and approval times for contracting and executing the construction work.
After addressing the NREL employees, Wright and Keller hosted a small press conference in the Energy Systems Integration Facility.
When asked about federal employee layo s and whether the public should expect any more, Wright didn’t give a de nitive answer.
President Donald Trump’s administration has previously stated it wants to eliminate government employee positions through reductions in force. en, on April 1, the DOE announced it was preparing for a “restructuring” but didn’t say more, according to Politico.
Wright said the DOE’s headcount has grown about 20% over the last four years, but he felt that Americans only got “a little bit more restrictions in energy production” in return. He continued by comparing it to how he ran his business, saying he wants to make “government services as good as they are today, or better, but at lower cost.”
He then said the U.S. Department of Energy is evaluating how to “get better and smarter at what we’re doing” within the overall department and each subdivision.
“So, that is an ongoing process; we are midstream on that,” Wright said. “But frankly, it would be downright irresponsi-
United States stay competitive in the international AI race, Wright added. Keller agreed that integrating data centers into the community is a very important discussion for the country, and he said he believes there’s great potential for collaboration between national labs and data centers, particularly regarding energy e ciency.
Overall, Keller said, he and his NREL colleagues are excited at the prospect of partnering with a data center.
“ ank you for pushing us, to ask us, ‘How can we go faster?’” Keller said to Wright about how his work has a ected NREL thus far. “Because, here at NREL, we love to go fast, because we want to create a better planet, so we have to move fast.”
During the April 3 press conference, Wright also elded questions about his stance on climate change and “climate alarmism,” as he described it, as well as Trump’s tari s that were announced the previous day.
In addressing both NREL employees and the media, Wright championed advancing the United States’ electric grid by “increasing supply without impacting costs.” He said the country’s demand for electricity has been relatively at for at least 20 years while costs have gone up, making consumers angry.
ble if we weren’t doing this (evaluation).”
‘We have to move fast’
During both his meeting with NREL employees and the press conference, Wright announced a DOE plan to lease land to AI data centers in a public-private partnership. One possible site is NREL’s Flatirons campus.
is plan builds on a Jan. 14 order issued by then-President Joe Biden’s administration.
Wright said he believes this public-private partnership would help both sides, as the data centers would have land to build on and the DOE would get money and maybe additional computing power for its national labs. It would also help the
“We need to produce more electricity and stop the price rises that are making life tougher for consumers and making it harder for businesses to locate in the United States,” he said.
Wright said he believes NREL employees and others across the DOE would be critical components in reaching that goal.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright addresses members of the media April 3 while visiting NREL’s Golden campus. Wright discussed the need to bolster the country’s electricity grid, saying demand has stayed relatively flat over the last 20 years while costs have gone up.

The Typical Wood-Frame Home Which Has Dominated Subdivisions Since the 1990s May Soon Be History
Let’s say that the writing is on the wall. The kind of site-built wood-frame homes that have dominated new American subdivisions since about 1990 are getting too expensive to satisfy America’s needs in a time of severe housing shortage.
Several factors are at work which make that style of home construction soon to be obsolete.
Factor #1: Labor shortages, especially with immigrant labor being deported.
Factor #2: Wildfire vulnerability of wood-frame homes, as demonstrated in Boulder County and more recently in southern California.
just a few years ago, but is now becoming mainstream. Other builders have learned from Lennar’s experience and multiple companies have entered that space.
Factor #3: Climate change, which is spiking a demand for greater resiliency in home construction — not just from fire, but from high-wind events like tornadoes and hurricanes.
Factor #4: Higher costs, aggravated no doubt by 25% tariffs on the Canadian lumber used in most new homes.
Having followed trade publications for the home construction and related industries, I am convinced that other technologies and techniques for home construction are about to go mainstream, making today’s wood-frame, onsite building process soon to be obsolete, or at least out of favor except for super expensive custom homes.
I also believe we will see more attention paid to the siting of new homes. It’s easy enough to site a home so that it benefits from solar gain, even if it is not solar-powered. Simply having big windows to the south with a wide overhang allowing solar gain from the low sun in the winter and shade from the high sun in the summer is a no-brainer, but it seems there has been a shortage of architectural brains in current and past siting of new homes. Similarly, having fewer windows on the north side of the house is simply smart “passive house” design.
Having an enclosed rather than open foyer (what’s called an “air lock”) is common sense too, and costs very little to implement.
That’s just the beginning of the changes I expect to see in new subdivisions. Lennar has already built a 3D printed subdivision in Texas (see picture). 3D printing of homes using concrete was a novelty (which I wrote about)
A Fast Company article in January 2023 proclaimed that “3D-printed houses are the suburbs of the future.”
The pictures at right are from that article. Here’s an excerpt: “Iowa City-based Alquist 3D, which specializes in reasonably priced automated construction in rural areas, has already started building Project Virginia, in which it will create 200 3D-printed homes (all variations on craftsman designs, also framed in layered concrete and topped with gabled wood-framed roofs) around the state, starting in tiny Pulaski (population 8,691). It’s also starting a 25-home project in Malvern, Iowa and a 10-home development in Muscatine, Iowa. Alquist founder and CEO Zachary Mannheimer says the firm has about 500 total units — ranging in price from $250,000 to around $400,000 — in the pipeline in Virginia, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas.”
Nothing says “mainstream” quite like Iowa and those other states. Colorado can not be far behind. Just last month, CBS Colorado (Channel 4 News) reported on a $638,000 grant under Colorado’s Innovative Housing Incentive Program to a Salida company, Verotouch, following the completion of their two 1,100-square-foot 3D-printed homes in Buena Vista.
“We are proud to accelerate innovation in housing to better address Colorado's housing needs,” Gov. Jared Polis said. “The unveiling of the first 3D-printed homes in the state is a great example of our state’s efforts to support new construction methods and create more housing now.”
The layered concrete walls of 3D-printed homes are naturally fire resistant. They are typically one-story homes with a standard peaked roof made from wood trusses, as you can see in the picture above. The front three homes in that picture show a 3-D home at different stages of completion. A gantry straddling the foundation transports the tube which lays down layer upon layer of concrete slurry following a computer program.

In past columns, I have written about a local company, Colorado Earth, which has pioneered construction of homes using compressed-earth bricks called EcoBlox. That’s more labor intensive, since the walls have to be laid by workers, but homes share the same benefits of being fire and weather resilient.
New technology abounds in the other components that go into home construction. For example, in June 2023 I wrote about a company, Plantd, in North Carolina, which has developed an alternative to OSB, the wall sheeting and roof decking used in virtually all home construction, made from a fast-growing perennial grass, grown locally on former tobacco plantations, saving 17 trees per house
and sequestering 8 tons of carbon dioxide per house. See www.PlantdMaterials.com
A Fast Company article in October 2024 reported that homebuilder D.R. Horton had ordered 10 million of Plantd’s panels, enough to build 90,000 homes.
The innovation taking place in every other component of home construction — doors, windows, manufactured housing, appliances, and more — is stunning to behold, confirming for me that a major revolution in the home construction industry is already unfolding. Be sure that I’ll continue to write about it here!
I have posted links for everything mentioned in this article on our company blog at http://RealEstateToday.substack.com
Does Your Older Home Have a Federal Pacific Electrical Panel?
An estimated 28 million American homes built in the 1950s through the 1980s, including many in Colorado, have an electrical panel manufactured by Federal Pacific Electric, which lost its UL certification decades ago because of multiple failures of its Stab-Lok breakers to trip when overloaded, thereby causing a fire hazard.
Our friends at Alpine Building Performance, LLC, shared these additional issues with the FPE panels:
The breakers often don’t connect properly to the panel’s bus bars, causing arcing, overheating, and potential fire hazards.
Some Stab-Lok breakers get stuck in the “on” position, even when manually switched off, making it impossible to cut power.
Reports suggest that FPE manipulated UL testing results, leading to unsafe products being approved for use.
Studies indicate that homes with FPE panels have a significantly higher likelihood of electrical fires compared to other panels. For these reasons, any home inspector hired by a buyer can be expected to recommend that replacement be demanded of the seller.

Violin Concerto: 16-year-old musician shares talents with Je erson Symphony Orchestra
BY CORINNE WESTMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Even at 16 years old, violinist Yuqing Li has already had a long musical journey. She started playing the instrument at 4 years old in China. en, as soon as the COVID-19 lockdown ended, her family moved from Wuhan, China. In 2022, Li received a full scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music’s pre-college program.
But Li’s latest stop was Golden for two special performances.
Li was the 2025 winner of the Je erson Symphony Orchestra Young Artists’ Competition. She won $5,000 for her “breathtaking performance of ‘Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto,’” according to JSO.
To celebrate her win, Li performed a special solo recital on March 28 at the Jefferson Unitarian Church, playing a selection of Bach, Grieg, Bloch, Proko ev, and Sarasate. Admission was free for those under 18 and JSO season-ticket subscribers.
Li then performed with the Je erson Symphony Orchestra at its March 30 concert, sharing her award-winning rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concert” alongside the symphony’s performance of its favorite overture — which it voted
on earlier in the season — and Brahm’s “Symphony No. 2.”
JSO is closing out its 72nd season with a special performance of the “Star Wars” franchise soundtrack. Attendees are encouraged to wear “Star Wars”-themed costumes at either the 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. performances May 18 at Colorado School of Mines’ Green Center. Children lead Lakewood church’s Lenten tradition during season of ‘repentance, reflection’
Our Lady of Fatima hosting weekly soup suppers ahead of Easter
BY CORINNE WESTEMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Every spring, Christians around the world recreate and re ect on Jesus Christ’s death by praying along with the Stations of the Cross.
On Fridays during Lent — the 40 days preceding Easter — Catholic churches like Lakewood’s Our Lady of Fatima host the Stations of the Cross, typically led by a priest or deacon.
However, on March 28, it was the children’s turn.
A group of about 20 young parishioners walked along the perimeter of the sanctuary, taking turns reading each station’s prayer for the Our Lady of Fatima congregation, as the group stopped at the corresponding piece of artwork. e 14 stations depict Jesus taking up his cross, meeting people on the way through Jerusalem, and then his death and burial.
Afterward, many attendees stopped by the parish hall for a meatless soup supper hosted by the local Knights of Columbus council.
Mazie Jackson, 14, said Lenten traditions like Stations of the Cross and meatless meals are a great way to “prac-
tice your faith” and “build community.”
In general, the season of Lent — which Catholics and some other Christian denominations observe — starts on Ash Wednesday and helps people spiritually prepare to celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection at Easter.
Similarly, Tim Young of the parish’s Knights of Columbus described it as a season of “repentance and re ection.”
Jackson added, “It’s about cleansing our souls and preparing for Easter. (Lent) helps us refresh our faith.”
To that end, Our Lady of Fatima hosts a children’s Stations of the Cross one Friday each Lent.

Safety concerns in a Je co kindergarten classroom spark legal and ethical questions
Parents say district inaction left children in danger. Their story o ers a roadmap for others navigating similar concerns
BY SUZIE GLASSMAN SGLASSMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Parents of several kindergarten students at a Je erson County elementary school have come forward in recent months with concerns about repeated classroom evacuations, student injuries and growing anxiety among their children, all tied to the behavior of a single classmate.
“Some days, my son comes home and tells me he sat outside coloring for over an hour because the classroom had to be evacuated again,” one parent said. “He tells me he doesn’t feel safe. And I can’t tell him he’s wrong.”
According to these families, the situation has disrupted learning and raised serious questions about safety, support and accountability.
To protect the privacy of those involved, this story does not name the school or individuals. What follows is a deeper examination of what unfolded, what the law requires and how parents in similar situations can advocate for their children.
e student at the center of these concerns has a disability and is protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. is federal law ensures students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education in settings that are as close to the general education environment as possible.
But when one student’s behavior results in repeated harm to classmates and possibly to the teacher, the legal and ethical challenges grow more complicated.
While the parents involved in this situation consistently emphasized their support for inclusive education, their concern, they said, is not the child’s diagnosis but the district’s response — or lack of one — to ongoing disruptions in the classroom.
What parents say is happening in the classroom
According to multiple families and veri ed by public records, the student repeatedly injured classmates and a teacher, prompting numerous classroom evacuations and ongoing safety concerns.
One parent said his daughter was hit in the head with a wooden block on the rst day of school. Weeks later, the same child was reportedly struck with a pencil. As more incidents surfaced, the parent said, concern turned to alarm.
Other families described similar incidents: one child was punched in the face, and another had her hair pulled aggressively. A student was reportedly pulled o the monkey bars, kicked in the head and later chased across the playground. Another student was allegedly kicked in the face three times on the school bus.
e classroom teacher was also reportedly injured, according to a records request showing the teacher documented multiple injuries during the year.
Parents allege their children evacuated the classroom at least 14 times from August to March. During those evacuations, students went to other parts of the school, often the library, sometimes for over an hour, while the child calmed down.
Several children began associating school with fear.
One reportedly began refusing to attend, telling his parents, “I don’t feel safe at school.”
Parents said early attempts to raise concerns were met with empathy but little action. As incidents continued, families contacted district o cials and organized among themselves, compiling a timeline of injuries and evacuations to track the pattern.
Frustrations deepened when district administrators told the families they couldn’t share speci cs due to privacy laws. e Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, restricts schools from disclosing information about individual students, including disciplinary actions.
While parents acknowledged the student’s right to support under IDEA, the disabilities act, many questioned what steps were being taken to protect the rest of the class.
“ e district keeps citing FERPA and IDEA as reasons they can’t tell us more,” one parent said. “But no one will answer a simple question: What are you doing to keep the rest of the class safe?”
The district’s response
According to a timeline created by parents, families began raising concerns in the fall. When initial conversations with the principal didn’t result in change, they escalated their concerns to Community Superintendent Lynn Torr, Interim Chief of Schools Todd Engels and Deputy Superintendent Kym LeBlanc Esparza.
e district added additional classroom support, including a one-on-one paraprofessional, frequent administrator presence and eventually a behavioral specialist. But parents said those e orts were ine ective.
Responses, parents said, were sympathetic but noncommittal. One was told the matter was “being handled at the highest levels,” but e orts to schedule meetings proved di cult.
In the parent timeline, they documented a response from Torr stating he was waiting for a reply from Superintendent Kym LeBlancEsparza to schedule a meeting with them and that “getting a meeting on her calendar takes an act of God.”
Je co Public Schools Associate Chief of Communications and Strategic Partnerships
Kimberly Mahugh said leadership took the issue seriously as soon as they became aware and did “everything in its power to protect the safety and well-being of everyone involved.”
When asked why Torr told parents that “getting a meeting with LeBlanc-Esparza would require an act of God,” Mahugh acknowledged the statement was unprofessional and said she would make sure someone would follow up with him directly.
What the law says
Federal law requires schools to educate students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, meaning alongside their nondisabled peers as much as possible. When a student exhibits aggressive or disruptive behavior, it’s the school district’s responsibility to act, according to Selene A. Almazan, legal director at the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates.
at can include reevaluating the student’sIndividualized Education Program, conducting aFunctional Behavior Assessmentand updating theBehavior Intervention Plan.
“ e interventions should be proactive, not reactive,” Almazan said. “It’s not about corralling a student. e student has to learn what to do with these big emotions or these impulses.”
Districts must also collect data, identify behavior patterns and assess whether additional support or a change in placement is needed.
Almazan said schools sometimes claim their hands are tied, but that’s not entirely accurate.
“ ey’re not tied. at’s a myth,” she said. “ ey could go to a hearing o cer and get the equivalent of anHonig injunctionand get the student removed.”
is process requires proof that a student poses a danger to others, typically under theserious bodily injurystandard. ough the bar is high, Almazan said, it remains a legal option if other interventions fail.
Yet, families of other students in the classroom have fewer direct legal protections “ ere are no direct rights under IDEA for the other students,” Almazan said. “But the school district is still responsible for what’s happening in that classroom. is is a school issue. is is not about this student. e responsibility is on the adults to create a safe and supportive learning environment.”
What parents can do
While families of students in general education settings may have limited legal recourse, there are steps they can take to advocate for their children and press for change.
1. Focus on your child’s experience Almazan said parents are most likely to get answers by requesting records related to their child, such as evacuation logs, missed instructional time or support services o ered.
2. Ask for support services If a child is anxious, afraid or struggling emotionally due to classroom disruptions, parents can request a meeting with school sta . Almazan said schools must respond when a student’s learning or well-being is impacted.

Easter ... Saturday? Answers may be in the eggs
Spring is fully in the air and Easter is right around the corner. We all know when to celebrate that holiday because we start seeing all kinds of colorful egg-shaped things and bunnies and wind-up hopping chicks and our regular candy packaged in pastel colors, all in an entire aisle devoted to everything Easter in the grocery store.
In this day and age, we all get plenty of warning that the most mobile of moving date holidays is going to be happening on Sunday, …Uhm, Sunday, April…Ok, some Sunday in April, unless it’s the last Sunday in March. No, that can’t be it this year, we passed that day and none of my family called. Ok, let me get out my calendar. Now, let’s see.
Nah, I don’t need a calendar, there’s a formula! Google. Ok, it says here that it’s a movable feast. Yes, we already know that. Easter Sunday falls on the, wait a second…Apparently it depends on whether or not you are using the Gregorian calendar or the Julian calendar. I guess you do need a calendar. So, which one is mine? It has pictures of motorcycles and a di erent woman each month, and I don’t think any of them are named Greg or Julian. ere’s a Julie, but that’s probably not it. Let’s just go with that calendar since I al-
ready have it.
In our fast-paced, instant-grati cation world, I sometimes worry that encouragement is an art form we are forgetting how to use.
Some might be thinking I am wrong that they can point out inspiring things all around us. But encouraging others is di erent than inspiring them. Inspiration res our hearts and points the direction we should go. Encouragement says let me walk alongside you as you navigate this di cult path.
Encouraging others is not complicated but does take some intentionality. Two of the most helpful things you can do when trying to encourage others is to personalize the encouragement and to create opportunities for people to receive that encouragement on their time frame.
Sometimes, a window into how someone else has done something is the very best way to help you imagine how to do it yourself. As I have mentioned in the past, “Words of Encouragement” started when I was looking for a way to support a friend and his wife as they navigated his stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis. My e orts were far from perfect, but they were genuine, heartfelt e orts. My encouragement came in the form of emails so that they could read on their own time.
Today, I am sharing two of the emails that I sent Shane and Summer over the course of his four-year battle, in hopes that you will nd inspiration for encouraging others.
e rst email was sent in the later weeks
ABOUT LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Next, we have to nd the rst Sunday after the Paschal Full moon. Alright there’s a formula for that too. Apparently, that’s the full moon that occurs on or after the March or Spring equinox. Wait, there’s an asterisk there.
(*Note that the spring equinox date used by the Christian Church is always March 21 to simplify matters. In fact, the astronomical date of the equinox can shift by a day or so. In 2025, the astronomical date of the equinox is March 20). Alright, this is a little more complicated than I thought it was going to be. Let me just look for where it says Easter Sunday on my own calendar. Ah, there it is. Sunday, April 20. It’s right there on Julie’s page!
Now that you know when it is, you can start planning things like a traditional Easter dinner. Stop! Don’t Google that unless you are some kind of crazy gourmet chef! e rst page that comes up is “50 Easter Dinner Recipes You’ll Make Every Year.”
ey think we are going to make 50 things for one Sunday dinner every year? I’m afraid to look at what they came up with for anksgiving. ere’s an endless collection of cooking pages for Easter, but most of them have a picture of a ham and au gratin potatoes at the top, so I guess that’s a good place to start. Ok, you have the dinner ideas and the right Sunday, let’s look at a few events in Golden that you can enjoy. e rst one is the most iconic event, and that’s the annual Kiwanis Club and Golden Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt. It’s a big one and it happens every year in Parfet Park on the corner of 10th Street and Washington Avenue. is year it’s going to be at 10 a.m. sharp on Easter…Saturday? Seriously? After I just went through all that guring out when Easter Sunday is?
Yup, that’s right. It happens on Saturday, April 19. ey do it on Saturday every year so it doesn’t clash with other things like church services that happen on Sunday. And when they say 10 a.m. sharp, they mean sharp and you don’t want to be even 30 seconds late for this one.
On the morning of the hunt, thousands of plastic eggs are spread throughout
Parfet Park with di erent areas for di erent age groups. But once the bell sounds, the kids clean the park in no time. So, plan on getting there plenty early to nd parking and walk to the park. All kids up to the age of 10 are welcome to participate, and they get lots and lots of kids.
Now, if you prefer to go to an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday, there will be one for the entire community on the lawn of the First United Methodist Church of Golden, located at 1500 Ford St. at 11 a.m. It’s for kids from 2 years old through fth grade. And they have their own parking lot!
And one more. e Golden Mill at 1012 Ford St. in Golden is having its annual Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will have eggs there for adults! Now, either they are really good at hiding things or they will be replenishing the eggs throughout the three hours, but either way, it sounds like fun. So, Happy Easter!

Shane and Summer,
Every Monday in college during the football season, we had to run the CC (Colorado College) Stadium Hill 10 times at the end of practice. e hill was probably 35 yards long and very vertical. I never liked that hill, but I especially hated it when we were preparing to run the ninth hill. I hated it because we were not done, but we were close. ere was still work to do and no way around it. Each week it took a special kind of mental focus to get started on that ninth hill.
Marathon runners talk about the 19th mile in the same way (OK, my hill was less taxing than seven more miles of running.) ey tell about the mental energy that must go into breaking through that 19th-mile barrier.

Shane and Summer, ere are moments in our lives when we know we are witnessing something spectacular. It might be a sunset or some other natural wonder. It could be a collective achievement or an individual’s special moment. ey are sights that stick with you forever. Meet Miners Alley’s ’National Bohemians’
There’s no timetable when it comes to the creative process. Sometimes, an idea can take years to get from your mind to out in the world. at’s the case for local actor and playwright Luke Sorge, whose “National Bohemians” is making its world premiere at Miners Alley Playhouse. “ is the rst play I wrote when I was 20 years old, but it’s undergone many changes since that initial script,” he said. “It went through a lot work with great people and theaters like the Benchmark eatre before making its way to Miners Alley.”
COMING ATTRACTIONS
Directed by Warren Sherrill, “National Bohemians” runs at Miners Alley, 1100 Miners Alley in Golden, through Sunday, April 20. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. ursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Loosely inspired by Sorge’s experiences with his father and brothers, the show follows estranged brothers om (Len Matheo) and Oscar (Steven J. Burge) as they return home to deal with a family crisis. eir older brother, John (Tim Fishbaugh), has taken their mother from her care facility, claiming he’s ending her suffering. e family, which includes John’s daughter Liah (Jenna Moll Reyes), has to come to terms with di cult truths as they face a literal and gurative hurricane.
Working on a world premiere can be both exciting and challenging, but Sherrill said Sorge has been great to work with as they shaped the production.
“A lot of times, having an author or playwright around isn’t the best experience, but Luke has been a great collaborator,” he said. “We’ve always believed in the show and believe we have all the right elements to make it truly enjoyable for audiences. We’re really lucky we get to do the world premiere.”

While the show certainly tackles weighty issues, that doesn’t mean it is without humor. Sorge described it as a “dark play about death, but still a comedy,” and said Sherrill and the cast have found the humor he embedded in the script and brought it to the stage. at blend of darkness and light mirrors the way life so often can be.
“I hope there are enough points of view on stage that everyone in the audience can relate,” Sorge said. “I believe folks will see themselves re ected in the characters.”
e humanity present in “National Bohemians” is a major draw for Sherrill, who added that he hopes audiences come away appreciating the time they have with those they love.
“ e message to me is how important family is and how life is eeting,” he said.
“We all have petty things that we challenge ourselves with that we shouldn’t, but life just gets in the way sometimes.”

In March 2020, Christian churches across the Denver area shut their doors during the initial COVID-19 shutdowns. Many hoped the doors would be reopened for Easter in April.
But they weren’t.
Instead, local Christians watched their churches’ Easter celebrations online while their pastors preached and their musicians played for empty churches.
e Very Rev. Richard Lawson of St. John’s Cathedral — the Episcopal cathedral in central Denver — recalled that Easter, saying, “ ere were less than ve people in the entire cathedral, and two of them were priests.”
Meanwhile, some smaller congregations like the United Church of Idaho Springs held its Easter service via video conference, where everyone logged in to worship together.
Five years later, local church leaders expected this Easter would look more normal. But even then, they couched it as “the new normal,” outlining how much their churches have changed in terms of technology, membership, ministry and more in the last ve years.
In March 2025, Colorado Community Media spoke with Christians leading six churches across ve denominations and four counties in the Denver area. While experiences varied, they all said their congregations have changed permanently
since March 2020.
“It has been a really hard journey,” said Rev. Susan Otey of the First United Methodist Church of Golden. “Pastoring during COVID was some of the hardest work I have ever done … I could see that God was working to make something good out of a terrible situation.”
Disciples in the digital age
Across the board, leaders from the six churches said technology was far and away the biggest change.
Before, none of them o ered online options for Sunday services; now, all of them either livestream or allow people to join via video conference.
In general, they said it’s a great help, as church members can now join when they are homebound, sick or traveling. e United Church of Idaho Springs has a member who moved to Minnesota but still joins remotely, and some churches said they also livestream funerals so loved ones can watch from anywhere.
Figuring out how to livestream services in spring 2020 was rough going, as churches had to get creative with the limited resources they had.
For instance, the First United Methodist Church of Fort Lupton started by taping an iPad to a tripod. Now, the church has a dedicated camera in the sanctuary, and Church Council Chair Neena Hagans monitors the livestream from the choir loft.
Otey said the pandemic pushed her congregation
to invest in the technology necessary to livestream services, which might not have happened until 2030 otherwise.
“COVID taught us that virtual services are essential in this day and age,” she continued. “( e pandemic) pushed us several years into the future.”
Along with Sunday services, technology is now a key aspect in other parts of church life, from online giving to hybrid Bible studies, church leaders said.
Daren Forbes, who’s on the Arvada Stake communications council for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said there is “an abundance of podcasts” that he and his fellow church members use to help them study scripture, church history and similar topics.
In fact, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has its own app with all its holy texts, the given year’s curriculum, videos and other resources “to augment study in the home,” he described.
Forbes and other Christians throughout Denver clari ed how these technologies don’t replace inperson services or fellowship opportunities. ey are simply another option.
Lawson believes that, especially after the pandemic, “people are hungry for community,” whether that’s in-person or online.
“Livestreaming has expanded our reach beyond what we ever could’ve imagined,” Lawson said. “It’s too bad it took COVID to teach us that.”

CHURCHES
Parishioners in the pews
In general, the number of Coloradans identifying as Christian has declined, mirroring a national trend, according to Colorado Public Radio; and the Associated Press has reported how Protestant denominations’ national membership has been declining for years.
Regarding their own ocks, leaders from the six churches had mixed experiences.
Otey and Lawson said their congregations in Golden and Denver, respectively, have actually grown over the last ve years, especially if one includes online attendance. eir biggest demographic changes have been with young families and young adults, respectively.
Otey believed it was because people are seeking out a community that shares their values and beliefs, with the idea of raising their children in it, too. She summarized those parents’ experiences as: “I want to teach my kids about loving and serving our neighbors.”
Meanwhile, Forbes said the Arvada Stake’s overall membership hasn’t changed signi cantly, but there have been a few demographic shifts over the last ve years.
As western Arvada has grown, so has church membership in that area. Members from western Arvada tend to be young families, while eastern Arvada is more older people who’ve lived in the area for decades, Forbes described.
Additionally, he said the Arvada Stake has seen signi cant growth among its Spanish-speaking population.
Contrastingly, membership at the United Church of Idaho Springs and the First United Methodist Church of Fort Lupton have declined slightly.
Vivian Simpson, chair of the church council, said the United Church of Idaho Springs was averaging about 30 people at Sunday services before the pandemic. Now, it’s about 20 people in-person with another ve online.
Fort Lupton church leaders said their congregation averaged 80 to 100 people on Sundays before the pandemic. Now, it’s down to about 60 in the pews, with some joining online.
For the First Baptist Church of Denver, while its attendance and overall membership haven’t changed much, its space utilization has.
Kurt Kaufman, a member of the pastoral team, said the church used to have a high demand for facility rentals and parking-space leases before the pandemic. Now, demand for both has gone down signi cantly, impacting the church’s budget.
“We haven’t had a parking waitlist since 2019,” Kaufman said. “We’ve had to rethink what we do to make money and how to survive as a congregation.”
Pastors in the pulpit
Both the First Baptist Church of Denver and the United Church of Idaho Springs said their previous pastors left within the last ve years, and they’ve struggled to nd replacements.
Kaufman said he and fellow members of the First Baptist Church’s pastoral team are rotating responsibilities, including preaching on Sundays.
Similarly, Simpson said the Idaho Springs church has been looking for a part-time pastor since its former pastor retired in 2021.
Because it’s a combined Methodist and Presbyterian congregation, Simpson said the church has looked through Methodist, Presbyterian and unafliated channels. It’s had some interest, but nothing that worked out long-term, she described.
“Nationwide, there’s a shortage of ordained ministers for Methodist and Presbyterian (churches),” she said.
Simpson added that the Idaho Springs church can only a ord a part-time pastor, which makes the search more di cult.
In a similar vein, the First United Methodist Church of Fort Lupton has had a dedicated pastor in the Rev. Anna Viehland since 2022, but she splits her time between Fort Lupton and another Methodist church in Erie.
On March 29, St. John’s Cathedral ordained four
people as deacons. ey’re now scheduled to be ordained as priests in October.
Lawson said four ordained ministers in a year is about average for the Episcopal Church’s Diocese of Colorado.
However, with the in ux of young adults at the cathedral, Lawson said he’s seen increasing interest in ordination among his congregation. In 2025, St. John’s Cathedral will have ve members attend seminary, including one of the newly ordained, he said.
Charity in the community
In terms of ministry — both for their members and for the wider community — there were some common threads among the six churches.
Along with a greater push for online or hybrid events, church leaders said they’ve seen more demand for small-group events, such as Bible studies, parent groups and in-home ministering.
On top of their continued interfaith partnerships, the two Denver churches said they’ve seen more demand for social justice-focused events and groups.
In addition to its Faith in Action ministry, Lawson said St. John’s Cathedral now has the Re-Imagining Justice group that focuses on racial healing, and the Migrant Interest Group that does pro-immigration work.
Kaufman said the First Baptist Church is now “more attuned to hunger and social justice issues around our community” than it was pre-pandemic.
Part of that is because of its new outdoor community fridge, which has already distributed about 30,000 pounds of food since February 2023.
Additionally, because its parking lot isn’t as full as it once was, Kaufman said the church has been able to host a shower trailer and a safe parking program.
e other four churches said they’ve likewise seen increased demand among their safe parking programs, free weekly meals and similar ministries; and they’ve worked to meet that demand alongside other churches and nonpro ts.
“Some things that started during COVID really de ned who we are as a church,” Otey said. “We increased our services tremendously.”
During the COVID-19 shutdowns, Otey described how her church worked with the larger Golden community to distribute free food to the homebound and unsheltered — even distributing food outside when indoor gatherings were restricted.
And that work has continued to the present day, she said, as the church has expanded from free meals once a week to three times a week.
Forbes encouraged people to visit justserve.org to nd service opportunities near them. ese events are open to anyone, not just Christians, he emphasized, saying it could be anything from painting a
house to working at a local food bank.
“It’s become even more apparent how important those service opportunities are because of COVID and what we’re experiencing in society,” Forbes said. “We have more in common with our neighbors than we think … (and) when we have an opportunity to serve one another, those di erences dissipate.”
‘Best of all, God is with us’
Another common thread among the six churches was how di cult the last ve years have been, in one form or another.
Church leaders discussed loneliness among their members, concern about the declining number of Christians locally and nationally, and burnout among their volunteers and ordained ministers.
Viehland, Fort Lupton’s pastor, described how she’s seen not only laypeople but also clergy struggle with the pandemic’s immediate and long-term fallout.
She believed some clergy members — not necessarily local ones — were already burnt-out, and the pandemic was a deciding factor in them leaving ordained ministry. And Viehland said she didn’t blame them.
“Five years out, we’re just starting to reckon with the spiritual and emotional trauma that came from (the pandemic),” Viehland said.
Kaufman said the First Baptist Church was full of hope and joy when he joined in 2019. Now, he said it’s been “a struggle to nd joy with anything” and that the congregation has shifted to one that’s “less hopeful and more fearful.”
Still, leaders from all six churches o ered messages of hope and faith, especially with Easter approaching.
“It’s been very challenging to nd hope in earthly, worldly things,” Kaufman said. “‘Where is it that I nd hope?’ e only place is in my faith.”
Similarly, Fort Lupton church leaders summarized the experience of faith by quoting Methodist Church founder John Wesley: “Best of all, God is with us.”
Kaufman, Forbes and Simpson invited fellow Christians to celebrate Easter by deepening their relationships with God and with one another.
ey also encouraged those “who are searching for something” to visit a local church and ground themselves in a loving God and a welcoming community.
Otey also emphasized how God’s love is unconditional and how the Holy Spirit is at work in everyone’s lives, community and shared world, even if they don’t know it.
Re ecting on the changes of the last ve years, and all the changes that are to come, Lawson said: “God is as real as God has ever been.”

Dakota Ridge’s boys lacrosse team are the kings of South Je co for the rst time under Coach Dak Riecke.
“When (Dakota Ridge Athletic Director Matt Heckel) hired me six years ago, he said to me, ‘I want you to win e Block,’” Riecke said. “We nally did it after six years. It’s really cool.”
Dakota Ridge (6-0 record) defeated South Je co rival Chat eld on March 26.
e Eagles completed the rivalry sweep Wednesday night at Trailblazer Stadium with an 11-8 win over Columbine (5-1).
“It means a lot to me. It’s really a family rivalry at this point,” said Dakota Ridge junior Jack O erdahl of the rivalry games against Columbine and Chat eld. “ ere is a lot of blood on the line. We are friendly outside the game, but inside the game, there is some animosity. You go as hard as you can.”
O erdahl had a monster game with a season-high three goals from his mid eld position. e junior opened the scoring with a goal with 4:23 left in the rst period, but Columbine answered, scoring the next ve goals to take a 5-1 lead.
Preston Maggard, Caleb Hayes, Lucas Gwinner, and Caleb Mainwaring put the Rebels in the lead. Columbine sophomore goalie Ephram Goodchild was solid in the net. However, Dakota Ridge grabbed a little momentum before halftime, with Isaac McGrew scoring to cut into Columbine’s lead. “We went into the locker room and real-

ly talked it up,” Dakota Ridge senior goalie
Zach Hearn said of what turned things around. “We knew we could play a better game. We knew we needed to turn on the switch, and we did.”
Dakota Ridge outscored Columbine 5-2 in the third quarter to even things up 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
“In a rivalry game, no matter how it goes, no matter how you play or anything, the win is the outcome,” Riecke said. “You have to get the win in a rivalry game.”
Opperdahl’s third goal of the game midway through the fourth quarter gave the Eagles the lead for good at 9-8.
“O erdahl was a major catalyst today, getting him open in the middle,” Riecke said. “His shot is a rocket. As soon as it leaves his stick, it’s 90-plus.”
Junior Levi Pullig and senior Tyler Read added late goals for Dakota Ridge to secure the 11-8 victory.
“I give a lot of props to Brody Spallone,” O erdahl said of the Eagles’ o ensive success in the second half. “He was really working the defense and creating a lot of opportunities for people, including myself.”
Hearn allowed just one goal in the fourth quarter. He also scrambled behind his net twice to beat out Rebel attackers to give the ball back to Dakota Ridge.
“Anything I can do to get the team up, I do,” Hearn said of his pair of hustle plays in the fourth quarter.
Hearn — two-year starting goalie for the Eagles — picked up his sixth victory in net on the season.
“He is a textbook goalie. When I saw him when he with in fourth-grade I grabbed him and pulled him aside,” Riecke said. “I told him he was going to be my goalie from now on. He had the energy. He had the attitude. He is the No. 1 goalie in 4A in my mind. ere is nobody better than him between the pipes in 4A.”
Dakota Ridge will attempt to stay undefeated when it faces Fairview (3-1) at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 7, at Trailblazer Stadium.
“We set that goal at the beginning of the season to go undefeated,” O erdahl said. “We have a tough schedule coming up with Fairview and Colorado Academy.” Columbine will try to get back in the win column in its Class 5A League No. 2 opener on Friday, April 4, back at Trailblazer Stadium. e Rebels face Erie (4-1).

Green Mountain girls lacrosse ready for another run at a state title
BY DENNIS PLEUSS FOR JEFFCO PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Green Mountain senior Kara Harris won’t have to worry about playing a home lacrosse game in a driving spring snowstorm next year.
“I am so excited to get out of the snow,” said Harris, who has signed to continue her lacrosse career at Arizona State University next school year.
Green Mountain battled Air Academy on ursday night in a fast-moving snowstorm that hit Trailblazer Stadium. e Rams took an 11-7 victory. e game was called after three quarters when it became an o cial game.
“ ese conditions were not fun,” Green Mountain Coach Savannah Phillips said. “It probably would have been a much di erent game if the conditions were vastly di erent. Nothing like Colorado spring weather.”
Air Academy (1-5 record) held a 6-5 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter after backto-back goals by freshman Ilene Badget. However, the Rams (5-3) responded with a goal by senior Romi Villani and a pair of tallies by junior Kya Cooper just before halftime to give Green Mountain an 8-6 halftime lead as the snow started to accumulate on the eld.
“If we could get the score up knowing it might be stopped after the third quarter,” Phillips said of the Rams’ 6-1 scoring run to close out the game. “Whatever we need to do to get the job done. at is
what is most important to us.”
e o cials stopped the game with around ve minutes to play in the third quarter with the Rams leading 11-7. e coaches, o cials and stadium manager agreed to nish out the quarter and reevaluate the playing conditions after the third quarter.
e snow intensi ed and the game was called after the third quarter.
It was the second straight win for the Rams this week after back-to-back losses to Regis and Mead the previous week.
“It’s exciting. We have a very strong team,” Phillips said. “We are even stronger on the leadership scale. We drive home those buzz words like … uni ed, communicate, composure and creativity.”
Phillips is the third head coach for the Rams’ girls lacrosse program over the past three years. Green Mountain won the Class 4A state championship back in 2022. e Rams lost in the semi nals in 2023. Eventual state champion Evergreen knocked Green Mountain out in the 4A state quarter nals last year.
“We have new girls coming in,” Harris said. “I hope they will play a big role, especially the freshmen, in helping us get back to a state title.”
While the Rams have some young talent coming in, they also have one of the most experienced and dangerous o ensive attack in 4A. Seniors Avery Freedman (26 goals), Villani (28 goals), Harris (31 goals) and Cooper (29 goals) present plenty of problems for opponents.
Harris hit the 200th career goal mark and Villani tallied her 100th career assist earlier this season.
“It really means a lot,” Harris said of scoring her 200th career goal in a 19-7 victory over Columbine. “I’ve worked extra hard, especially this year and last year, to help get this team to where it is now. I hope we can get to a state title.”
Villani, Freedman and Harris all played signi cant roles as freshmen on the 2022 state championship team.
“ is marks the halfway point,” Phillips
said with seven regular-season games remaining for the Rams. “We have a ton of lacrosse left to play, but we are just getting started.”
Green Mountain is on the road next week to face Denver South (2-4) on ursday, April 10. e Rams get into 4A West League play against Conifer on April 15.

Current Colorado law requires Assessors statewide to revalue all real property every two years (in odd-numbered years) and send a Notice of Valuation. Property values may also change in even-numbered years due to modifications to the property, such as new construction or parcel reconfiguring. For example, this could involve the creation of a new subdivision or the splitting of a parcel. On or before May 1, our office will mail property owners a Notice of Valuation reflecting any change in value. These processes are governed by state law and are carried out by your local county assessor.
After receiving the notice, we encourage property owners to visit our website assessor.jeffco. us to review their property characteristics and neighborhood sales using our Property Records search and Comparable Sales search. For tax year 2025, the market value stated is an estimate of your home’s worth on June 30, 2024. Only sales that occurred between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2024, are used for analysis. We cannot consider sales or other market influences that occurred after June 30, 2024. Note: Accessing your property information online is free, and our website does not request payment for this service.
The Jefferson County Colorado Assessor will hear any appeals concerning the valuation of taxable real property for tax year 2025 beginning May 1, 2025.
Property owners who wish to file an appeal may also do so online at assessor.jeffco.us.
The website not only contains a link and information to file an appeal for all property types but also includes information on the assessment process and answers to frequently asked questions.
Appeals that are mailed for real property must be postmarked by June 9, 2025. If you file online, please do not also file by mail or in person. The Assessor's Office is located at Jefferson County Government Center #2500, 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, CO 80419. Regular office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.
Appeals concerning the valuation of taxable personal property (business equipment) will be heard beginning June 16, 2025. Written objections for personal property valuations must be postmarked by July 1, 2025.
Appeals that are filed online will be considered timely up until 11:59 p.m. MST. on June 9, 2025, for Real Property, and July 01, 2025, for Personal Property.

NOTICE OF LEGAL CLAIMS BY BENEFICIARIES/HEIRS TO REAL PROPERTIES

Both properties were legally conveyed to THE MARY A. FLANAGAN LIVING TRUST DATED JULY 12, 2007, on July 12, 2007.
When the Court appointed Virginia Frazer-Abel, as Conservator, and Successor Trustee of Mary A. Flanagan in March 2019, the Conservator recorded Letters of Conservatorship on these properties.
Both the Successor Trustee and the Conservatorship were Terminated by Court Order in 2021. At this time, the Letters of Conservatorship should have been removed, but it appears that the Letters of Conservatorship are still attached to these properties, thereby clouding the Titles.

accountability and allow enough time for the plan to fully develop and be successful. For now, the planning-year pause is o the table. But families say real progress will mean more than slowing down. It will mean building a future where Je erson is supported, not just spared.
What’s changed (and hasn’t) since the announcement
While district leaders say they’ve heard the Je erson community loud and clear, their core concern hasn’t changed: enrollment.
“We can’t o er a comprehensive experience with so few students,” said Lisa Relou, Je co’s chief of schools.
Je erson is the smallest secondary school in the district, and Relou said Je co is pulling resources from larger schools like Lakewood and Alameda just to keep basic programming in place.
In 2023-24, about 600 students attended Je erson Jr./Sr. High, but far more lived within the school’s boundaries. Fewer than half of those neighborhood families send their kids to Je erson, a trend that’s held steady for at least a decade. In 2021-22, just 49% of neighborhood students attended the school.
At the same time, more than 150 students annually choose to attend Je erson from outside the area, including from other districts, option schools and nearby middle and high schools, something supporters say re ects its value and unique identity.
Still, Relou said the district must make decisions with the entire region in mind.
“We’re not just designing for the 600 students who attend Je erson,” Relou said. “We’re trying to design for the 5,000 students in this area and make sure they have access to high-quality programming and options available to Je co students living in other areas of the district.”
To do that, Relou said they need to hear from more than just the most vocal families. At the latest community meeting, Relou announced the launch of a community survey to reach a broader swath of families, including those who may not attend meetings or haven’t yet been asked. Relou even asked families to help write the survey questions themselves.
Ross Burns, a Je erson teacher and alum, welcomed the idea.
“I would love that, to be honest with you,” Burns said. “ e community has never been asked what it is they wanted.”
Burns and other organizers said they’ve worked to gather voices through informal meetups and one-on-one conversations with parents and students. Still, they’ve lacked time, structure and institutional support to meet with everyone.
“ ey had two years and lots of money
to research and plan all of this,” Burns said. “We were told on the day of our Christmas party, ‘Hey, you guys are shutting down in a year.’”
A history of promises and mistrust
Even as the district signals a willingness to collaborate, many in the Je erson community remain wary, shaped by years of promises that felt broken or incomplete.
Families point to commitments made nearly a decade ago when Je erson’s middle and high schools merged. e district pledged to create separate spaces and supports for seventh and eighth graders, but those changes never happened.
Others recalled a short-lived e ort to pilot a community school model, which the district abandoned after two years.
“ ey agreed to go along with the idea of making it a community school,” said a teacher at Edgewater Elementary, who asked not to be named for fear of retaliation. “And then the promises they said they would do, they didn’t follow through with. e community school model failed because the leadership and district weren’t aligned. It zzled out after a year or two.”
She also pointed to capital improvements promised under a bond measure that never materialized. “ ey said they would invest in our theater and technical programs,” she said. “Instead, they built an auxiliary gym and new admin o ces. at money could have gone into programs that actually attracted and supported students.”
Relou acknowledged the concerns and said the district is still researching what happened with the decision to abandon the community school e ort.
“I wasn’t here at the time,” she said. “But we are interviewing people to better understand why it didn’t continue.” e result is a deep sense of caution. Even as new proposals take shape and survey e orts expand, many in the community are watching closely to see whether this time will be di erent.
The community’s proposal
During the most recent meeting, Joel Newton, president of the Edgewater Collective, unveiled a community-driven redesign proposal that includes exploring alternative models like an innovation school or trying a community school again with a more de ned commitment.
Innovation and community schools are state-recognized models that o er more exibility in how schools operate, including sta ng, curriculum, budgeting and scheduling. ey often emphasize local decision-making, expanded student supports and stronger partnerships with families and nonpro ts.
e plan calls for:
• Bilingual education that continues through high school, building on the dual language model already thriving at Edgewater Elementary.
• Dedicated programming for seventh and
eighth graders, including separate spaces and teachers specializing in early adolescence, something Newton said the district promised in 2015 but never delivered.
• Career and technical education pathways that align with student interests, like automotive and EV technology.
• A community-led steering team to shape the redesign and guide future decisions.
• A ve-year partnership agreement with the district, providing stability and protecting the school from further disruption.
Newton closed his presentation with a call for hope and a reminder that the solutions don’t need to come from outside consultants or new leadership.
“A school like ours doesn’t need some rich, wealthy white consultant to come in and save our school. We can save our schools ourselves and together,” he said.
What’s next
Je erson is in year three of turnaround status under the state’s school accountability system. Schools in turnaround have ve years to show improvement before the state may intervene with more serious restructuring options.
According to state data, the school’s performance in reading and math remains well below district averages, though many families say the data doesn’t capture the whole picture.
For instance, in 2024, the school fell below the state’s required 95% testing threshold in English Language Arts and Math, triggering an automatic one-level drop under state accountability rules. Without that penalty, the school might have received a less severe designation.
Meanwhile, the school earned strong marks in graduation rate, suggesting that despite academic struggles, students who stay at Je erson are nding ways to complete their education.
Still, if Je erson enters year four in the fall of 2025, it will trigger new requirements from the Colorado Department of Education, including a formal state review, the development of a revised improvement plan and increased oversight.
If the school doesn’t progress signi cantly by year ve, the state could take more drastic actions, including restructuring, external management or closure.
e district and community members will reconvene on April 30 for the rst in a series of small-group meetings designed to dig into options, including the community’s proposal and alternative models like an innovation or community school.
Relou said she’d also share cost estimates for di erent scenarios and results from the upcoming survey.
Families and educators said they’re ready to do the work but want an actual seat at the table and a chance to shape what comes next.
“If we’re going to do this, let’s do it together,” said Burns. “Let’s not just survive. Let’s build something that works for our students.”
